Next New Ride?

Featured Replies

The layout of Phantom's Revenge is largely the same as Steel Phantom, and a great ride it is (now).

Morgan hypers are, in my opinion, greatly underrated. For several years, Steel Force (when running one or two trains) was my favorite steel coaster. Just as years before, Magnum XL-200 had been.

I feel the same way about Mamba. She's such an underrated coaster. That head chopper coming out of the turn around gets me every time too.

An S&S Sky Swing would be awesome over by Firehawk. They could call it steel hawk!

I was thinking this or an actual TopSpin not that giant monstrosity we used to have.

How dare you remove Kings Island's best coaster.

Here's a few ideas: -Put a Ferris Wheel in the location now occupied by the Action Theatre. The place has seen better days, and Kings Island doesn't have a Ferris Wheel. How is this? - Get our old

One of my home parks is six flags New England so I got to experience catapult before it bit the dust. They were kinda uncompftoable but still fun. It was also a maintenance nightmare.

Six Flags is a registered trademark used by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. Catapult was a trademark of one of its attractions. As such, both, consistent with the TOS, are always capitalized here.

I agree with PyroKinesis; it would be awesome if Kings Island got a SkySwat! :D Unfortunately, I read somewhere that Catapult is most likely being turned to scrap, so a relocation couldn't be possible.

EDIT: Here's the article where I found that information about Catapult most likely getting scrapped: http://sfneonline.org/2013/03/05/six-flags-catapult-removed/

Why are some of you so hell-bent on squeezing coasters in everywhere? Believe it or not, other rides can be built in an amusement park.

Unrealistic.

Yeah really! Kings Island has only used a little under half of their property owned!

And they once owned far, far more. Until Mr. Carl Lindner retained it in the Paramount sale. Then Cedar Fair passed over CBS's interest in Great Wolf Lodge.

Don't you guys think it could be possible that the next ride we get is a water ride? I mean when's the last time we got one? Cedar Point recently got one(kind of) and I think it's time for us to get a new one. This is actually weird because I hate water rides.

I could see that happening. But I personally would like to see a flat or two for next season.

Maybe a stupid question but why wouldn't Kings Island be in the market for an Intamin rollercoaster for their next coaster? Would it have anything to do with the reliability of a current Intamin ride In the park or is there something more to it?

Look toward Sandusky.

For many, many reasons.

Or Agawam, Massachusetts.

Or Darien Center, New York.

Or Santa Claus, Indiana.

Or even Louisville, Kentucky.

Or Knott's Berry Farm.

Or Jackson, New Jersey.

I could go on and on and on.

Ok what about all those places? I guess I'm asking if there was something specific that happened with Intamni in the past few years or is it just a reliability thing or is it just speculation?

Sorry for double post but it just seems like from 2000 til 2010 every coaster built in Cedar Point was an Intamin and now it seems like Cedar Fair won't touch them. Just wondering why

Because Dick cared about records and intensity, and Ouimet is focused on safety, reliability, and family thrills.

I believe Shoot The Rapids was the last straw.

And it isn't speculation. Downtime, safety incidents, repairs. Mr. Ouimet is not the type to take a perilous plunge and shoot the rapids; he's not that kind of maverick.

EDIT: Above written before a TTD-120-420 edit, that ride being ironically, another example. Reliability and safety are paramount--medium attainment is not good enough.

In case anyone isn't familiar with all of the problems Cedar Point has had to deal with because of Shoot the Rapids:

First, the ride's opening was delayed. Here is the park press release: http://pointbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/25103.aspx

Then it was delayed further because of "engineering problems." http://www.sanduskyregister.com/article/17187

Once it finally opened, ride ops had to guess rider's weights and put them in specific locations on each boat. http://pointbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/29697.aspx

This continued until last summer when a boat slid back down one of the lifts and, according to many sources, flipped over into the water injuring 7 and sending 1 to the hospital. http://www.toledoblade.com/local/2013/07/19/One-person-hospitalized-after-water-ride-accident-at-Cedar-Point.html

The ride never reopened and was put under investigation. http://digital.olivesoftware.com/Olive/ODE/SanduskyRegister/LandingPage/LandingPage.aspx?href=U0RTS1kvMjAxMy8wOC8wNA..&pageno=MQ..&entity=QXIwMDEwMQ..&view=ZW50aXR5

Just recently, the park has stated Shoot the Rapids will open this season. The ride is still under investigation. http://www.sanduskyregister.com/article/cedar-point/5473601

It's a guess that Mr. Ouimet wouldn't go with Intamin.... Speculating

And a happy medium I'm not saying sacrifice safety in any way. I know safety is most important. What I mean is personally I would sacrifice a little bit of reliability for more intensity. I know not everyone agrees it's my personal preference.

If you really want something equal to what Intamin delivers, Mack looks like they're picking up where Intamin left off minus the problems. They have a lot of things Intamin has. They haven't done anything like a hyper or a giga yet, but by the looks of it, they aren't too far off.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like Duddley Do-right's Ripsaw Falls or Journey to Atlantis (both Mack water rides) come to Kings Island.

And Morgan's hypercoasters are nothing short of glorious, safe and reliable.

I just wish more people would give Morgan coasters the Chance they deserve.

What I mean is personally I would sacrifice a little bit of reliability for more intensity. I know not everyone agrees it's my personal preference.

I don't think many people here would argue with you. A lot of us have an Intamin coaster as our number one coaster. At the end of the year, a new coaster, no matter the manufacturer, will pretty much bring in the same amount of guests. It just makes sense from a business standpoint to add a coaster from B&M that will work, and work safely, almost 100% of the time as opposed to an Intamin ride that costs a lot more in maintenance and doesn't work quite as well.

Yeah I get as business decision that makes more sense. I by no means am an Intamin fanboy, I know Intamin fans get hammered on here pretty good when they try to argue for Intamin. It just so happens that they manufacture some of my favorite coasters.

And some of us will never again see a new coaster from our favorite manufacturer anywhere in the world.

^That doesn't mean the products that S&S makes will be anything like Arrow's creations.

"Prominent: standing out so as to be seen easily; conspicuous; particularly noticeable."

You said S&S isn't a big manufacturer. I said the products produced by S&S and Arrow are not comparable. How are these statements similar?
