rcwizard13 Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 According to CP Food Blog, Greg Scheid has been promoted to Regional Vice President of Cedar Fair. Mike Koontz has been promoted to Vice President and General Manager of Kings Island. He has previously worked for Paramount's Kings Island from 1999 to 2006 and returned to some role in 2011.Again, this is from CP Food Blog. I have not found any other confirmation.http://cpfoodblog.com/worlds-of-fun-kings-island-executive-changes/ Edit: After taking a look a look at LinkedIn, Mike's and Greg's profile both list their reported new positions. 18 Quote

Tony has been at Kings Island for over 27+ years and will be missed with his KI experience as Director of Park Operations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 11 Quote

rhyano Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 This is sad and good at the same time, sad because Greg was GM for so long, i'm going to miss him! Good for him being promoted, he's done a great job at Kings Island and he sure will be missed by me, its so hard to say goodbye... 7 Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Everyone I've talked to is excited to have Mike Koontz as the new GM. Godspeed to both him and Mr Scheid. 7 Quote
CoasterOhio Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Next question. Who is the new Director of Park Operations? 6 Quote
teenageninja Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Congratulations are in order to Tony. I worked for him for many years and he is one of the hardest working individuals I've ever met. Him and I didn't always see eye to eye, but I look for WoF to turn a new foot with him at the helm. He expects a lot of his employees and he will do well there. 4 Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Next question. Who is the new Director of Park Operations? As far as I know it is "a player to be named later." His job was posted for interview submission so they may not have a successor in mind yet. 5 Quote
CoastersRZ Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 What was Mike Koontz`s role prior to be naming Vice President and General Manager? And did Worlds of Fun`s General Manager move to a new post within the company? 4 Quote
Magenta Lizard Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 ^VP Finance and Administration at Cedar Point for the last year, and VP Finance at KI for the four years prior to that. 6 Quote
McSalsa Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Oh wow...I wish Greg the best of luck. While there were some hiccups, overall I'd say he did a great job as Kings Island GM based on my visits from 2009-2016. Mike Koontz has big shoes to fill. Tony Carovillano also did a heck of a job- on nearly all of my visits to KI in said time frame, most coasters had great ride crews that were getting trains out fast and safely (minus maybe Firehawk- but flying coasters supposedly have terrible capacity anyway so it's really not the ride ops fault). Whoever replaces him also has big shoes to fill. 6 Quote
CoasterOhio Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 ^ Have to remember he is the Director of Park Operations, not Ride Operations. He oversaw everything in the park, from food, Park Services, Admissions, and Rides. For Ride Crews you should be thanking the Ride supervisors, as well as Area Supervisors. But none the less, everyone did a great job everywhere this year. 6 Quote
Elizabeth19 Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Wow! Sad to see Greg go but at least he's in a better position! I never got to talk to him but I saw him one time at the front entrance on one of my visits to KI last year. 3 Quote

Rarely have I had an issue with any of those things at the park. 3 Quote
Existential Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Rewarding people that deserve rewarding is commendable. Hopefully they are content in their new ventures. It would suck if they are not. I'm sure my turtle could care less. That...I am certain of. 4 Quote
BeeastFarmer Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I hope food service will be a major focus with the new administration. I've had great experiences and dismal experiences at KI this year, yet at KD and Cwinds, no issues. The only issues I had at CP was the waitress in one place trying to charge me .25 for my all season refill and the "side salad" at a different location. It was some lettuce leaves, two sliced tomates and a sliced onion. Basically hamburger toppings. 3 Quote
CoastersRZ Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 If you go often enough, you are bound to experience some kind of problem. The mark of a good operations is how they respond to the problem and remedy it. So where is Greg`s new position based at? Ie, does he have to relocate to Sandusky, etc.? 3 Quote
Creed Bratton Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I've heard rumor that he will still be in park, but will be traveling more. Just "word on the street." 6 Quote
TheBEASTunchained Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I've heard rumor that he will still be in park, but will be traveling more. Just "word on the street." That would make good sense though, in theory. I mean, consider the amount of "power" people already in Sandusky, which would lend to having a closer corporate eye and approval closer to some of the other parks in the region. 4 Quote
Italian Job 2005 Posted November 11, 2016 Posted November 11, 2016 I hope Mike remembers how the park was with Paramount, and really pushes hard for theming please. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 6 Quote

CoastersRZ Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 It is set up the same way at Coney. The Operations Managers/Directors are not in charge of food service. There is a separate person in charge of those operations. 4 Quote
Imperial79 Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 He has big shoes to fill that's for sure! It's going to be strange not seeing Greg at the park. I hope Mike keeps going with the things people like and want, and even add things we didn't know we wanted till they showed us, like with Mystic Timbers (I think). I wonder what this new chapter in KI history will bring us, I'm ready for it!!! 4 Quote

You guys may have seen the old Linder Room in the IR was being worked on during Haunt. That will be his new office. Heck of a view!! 6 Quote
