Dollywood 2024: Elevating Experiences, Thrills, and Entertainment

Featured Replies

Kind of sad to see that Dreamland Drive In will not be returning.  It was a great show (and it clocked in at around 55 minutes long).  Outside of Kings Island, Dollywood is the only other park that I have had a season pass to.

Big Bear Mountain is an incredibly fun coaster and a great addition.

The park is wonderful and a must visit for anyone who has never been.  I highly recommend it.  Have taken my kids there, my in laws, my parents.  It is a truly wonderful park and well worth the price of admission.  Lets not forget the cinnamon bread either!

I just hope the replacement for Dreamland is a story-driven show. They have a lot of concerts. That one was unique in that regard. .

I've been to Dollywood three times (two days in 2022 and one day last year) and haven't really stopped for any of the shows. I need to change that next time I get down there (don't know if I'll make it down there this year since I'm doing a big trip during the summer).

With the recent song changes (presumably due to issues with the song rights) to Dreamland Drive-In we had a feeling it likely wasn't going to be around much longer. Sixteen years is an incredible run though. Dreamland was truly something special. Few theme park shows have that kind of heart and emotional impact. Hopefully the future productions will continue that tradition.

Yeah, I have a feeling that they felt like it ran its course. I doubt they had trouble with the rights. They probably just changed songs to keep it fresh. Kings Island used to do it a lot when they ran shows two or three years.

Speaking with some performers and tech crew we got the impression the song rights have been an issue. There was a copyright lawsuit around the use of the song "Christmastime Is Here" in Twas the Night Before Christmas at the Pines a few years ago. Shortly after that Silver Dollar City's A Dickens Christmas Carol changed out its score of existing music (largely from the Alan Menken written A Christmas Carol and the 1970 film Scrooge) for an entirely original score of similar sounding songs. At Dollywood this past season the song "We Need a Little Christmas Now" was removed from both Christmas in the Smokies and Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Having more shows that feature exclusively Dolly's music might keep these issues from coming up.

Fascinating. I wonder if they fell victim to some legal battle within the record companies that trickled down.
