Even after having lived inside YNP for 5 months and then moving to Idaho to be within day trip driving distance from it, I'd love to see it. If you ever go, and stay at the old faithful inn, do anything you can to get up to the roof when they lower the flag at night. I got to do it three times when Iived in Idaho. Climbing the stairs, pausing in The Crow's Nest to see everyone below, then going to the roof and watching old faithful at sunset was a spiritual experience. I've been to Yellowstone 3x but I've always stayed outside the park in West Yellowstone. I could spend days at the upper geyser basin just waiting around for something to happen. Of course the waiting game is helped by the fact there are many predictable geyers in that basin to watch while you are waiting for any sign of getting to see a more rare geyser erupt. I need to get back out there sometime Canyon was my home base. It was an indescribable summer there. Imagine waking up and walking ten minutes to see the sun illuminate the canyon walls...to to take a strenuous hike up Mt Washburn in the early morning. Or waking up on July 3rd with ten inches of snow. Gosh I miss that place. Later, when I moved to Idaho, I'd stay at the Madison Hotel in West. My first time at a hostel. Browntggrr Posted July 29 Share Posted July 29 ^ Lake Erie typically has the most waterspouts out of all the great lakes due to how warm the water gets. Just last year: Lake Erie breaks world waterspout record: Over 180 sightings reported (usatoday.com) It's not "unusual" to have a waterspout this time of year but they usually happen late summer/ early fall.
