California's Great America - No Seasonal Events in 2025?

Featured Replies

Reportedly an email went out to California's Great America season passholders stating that there would be no seasonal events in 2025, meaning no Carnivale at Orleans Place, Tricks & Treats Fall Fest or WinterFest.

The current CGA 2025 operating calendar shows hours starting in April until the end of October with none listed in November or December.

This doesn't really surprise me. Because of the merger, Six Flags has so many parks to operate, and CGA isn't in the top tier. Unfortunately for smaller parks, they don't get the same treatment as the big ones (KI, KD, CP, Magic Mountain).

This likely, I'm guessing, is due to the fact that the park will no longer be in existence in a few years. Time to start scaling down operations as they can.

And what better way to accelerate that schedule than to start removing stuff... (looking at you Coney Island eliminating rides...)

One could argue that this implies 2025 and not 2024, but vague enough (like a lot of their messaging) that FUN legal will say this was for rest of 2024:

I expect they want to close the park while still in the initial 5 years of the lease-back agreement. Taking the 6-year renewal for the 11 total years would be very costly.

Isn't next year the 50th anniversary of the park?

Or is it a year older than Six Flags Great America?

I understand why, but it sux that they will be unable to celebrate the milestone.

According to Wikipedia, CGA opened on March 20, 1976 and was the first of the two Marriott parks.

The lease on the land ends in 2028, with 2033 being the end of the extension if they choose to take it.

I would think it would be better to skip having seasonal events this year if it means they can do a 50th anniversary celebration in 2026 before closing for good (if it is to happen so soon).

I just read all about this park. I am sad for it. I mean what it this was Kings Island???? And they was the first cedar park to have winters fest. I mean I know it started at Kings Island but I'm talking modern times not the old days. But they showed that these parks could do it and you got a few winters fest but now this year just gonna be three plus knott beery farm and whatever winters fest is called there.
