Siren’s Curse is going to be Problematic

Call me cynical but Siren’s Curse is shaping up to be a problematic addition. It was clear from the start that Cedar Point introduced this ride in an effort to ease the frustration surrounding Top Thrill 2’s rocky debut. While tilt coasters aren’t new to the coaster world, Siren’s Curse already appears to be following in the unfortunate footsteps of its predecessor.

Countless videos on social media show the ride stalling on the tilt mechanism - whether stuck horizontally, vertically, or somewhere in between. That’s not a good look for any new ride, let alone one that’s supposed to help redeem the park’s reputation. For Cedar Point, it feels like salt in a wound they’re desperately trying to close.

The biggest concern is that the tilt - the ride’s main draw - seems to be its biggest weakness. If it can’t operate reliably, it undermines the entire experience. Given these early issues, I wouldn’t be surprised if Siren’s Curse becomes a maintenance nightmare in the years to come…if it even exists in the park for over 10 years.

True but 10-15 years ago it was all hearsay rumors and fan sites :)  now with social media, you almost have to be perfect at launch or else it spreads quickly. 
 

until recently I never understood why official grand openings at Disney and Universal happen after months of soft openings and previews. Now I get it.
 

It’s not a failure if the ride is still in beta testing phase.

We all knew that Siren's Curse would have issues with it's tilt from the beginning. It's just a matter of how LONG these issues last. That's where TT2 was deemed problematic-when it shut down for nearly a year. But I'm not worried about Siren's Curse. I'm hoping to head up there next Monday!

Now we're creating threads about things all new rides go through?

It ran perfectly the day I went, though I heard there was an evac on the tilt the day after, but I'm sure they got it back up and running.  It's not like its closing for long periods of time when it does evac.  Heck, MF and Raptor were down longer than Siren the day I went and no one batted and eye at that.  It just looks worse from an optical on Siren because it's been on a section of track that ends.

I really don't know why anyone is surprised. Reiterating the fact that this is a brand new ride, it's gonna have its growing/breaking in pains. And this makes what, only the second operating installment of this kind of coaster in the world? I know there will be a third coming soon (Circuit Breaker), so its not like this is common-place coaster. But I wouldn't say that this is a highly unreliable ride. Like others have said, social media is highlighting the fault points so it appears far more drastic than what it really is. 

This new-age Vekoma is far more reliable than old Vekoma. I don't think that can be debated.

I'll even go this far in speaking of Siren's Curse- while I may not want the same thing at KI, I'd gladly take a Vekoma multi-looper in The Vortex plot.  Moreso if Vekoma can make one with 3 trains. 

IMO, Vekoma is the future at KI

Not sure why anyone is surprised that this would be discussed— the company has had a poor reputation since the merger and Cedar Point specifically has a reputation for rides that feature maintenance issues. If you’re an ACEr, maybe you’re prepared for that, but to the general public who actually spend money: it’s annoying.

This is another good reason for Cedar Point to go for smaller attractions for the next several years. Not only have they added/renovated three roller coasters in three years, the reliability of those coasters have been plastered all over social media. I don't think you'd get as much of that if a ride like Sol Spin or a tea cups ride was added. They could also find a way to add a new theater or indoor show venue. Maybe 2026 will bring another water park refresh (where they just reopen the other half of Cedar Point Shores :P ). Cedar Point needs to really focus on improving the quality of the guest experience right now without building a new coaster. 

Who knows, maybe 2026 will see DC Universe replacing Camp Snoopy. That way the park will be able to tear down even more trees!

My thoughts exactly. Most non-enthusiasts purchase tickets with the assumption that a new ride will be operational. Not to insult the intelligence of the “gp.”

Even if the ride indeed has more uptime than downtime, the dozens of pictures that circulate on social media of it stuck on the tilt doesn’t help.

Family just came back from Disney where numerous rides (Cosmic Rewind, Slinky, Rise of Resistance, Tiana's, Space Mountain, Rock-n-Rollercoaster) had extended down time on multiple days up to full day closures. 

An apology letter was on the Disney app about the full day downtime for both Cosmic Rewind & Slinky.

Ride downtime is not an issue for Cedar Point/ SF.

The more high tech/moving parts something has, the more likely said thing is going to have downtime/issues. 

These aren't our parents/grandparents roller coasters. Much like cars or anything else in today's world, the more complex it is, the more points of failures/issues there can be. This is just a thing we have to accept. People want the latest, most thrilling and high tech rides...and that can come with a bit of sacrifice in knowing that it might have some gremlins in the systems.

It's probably why the industry as a whole has loved B&M so much because their coasters, regardless of the type ( hyper, giga, flying, invert, stand-up etc ) all have about the same formula going for them without much variance in their designs and not as much tech as some other manufacturers/models. They are arguably a bit more low-tech and not as risk taking as say Intamin or even Vekoma. Which is why rides made by both of those manufacturers can be some of the most thrilling/exciting out there because they tend to push the limits and explore new ways of freshening up the industry. Especially since Vekoma has grown up and learned from their past selves and have been making some of the best the market has seen in awhile in recent years. 

And side note, no shade to B&M. I do love their coasters and appreciate their work-horse reliability. But the industry is over-saturated with them at this point and its nice seeing other players get in the game and show off what they can do.
