Losantiville Mining Co.
As a massive lover of the Halloween season, I've been looking at new haunts to experience and ways to embrace the spooky spirits of the night. Now, I'd like to share it with all of you! Below you'll find a list of various haunted attractions in the Cincinnati area I've looked into. Since it's July there is still some time before ticket prices and event offerings are finalized and released, but the initial information is still visible online for all to see. Feel free to add more to the list! Area 13 Project at Nike Missile Base | Oxford, OH | https://area13project.com/?utm_source=OhioHauntedHouses.com&utm_medium=website&utm_campaign=HauntedHouseMedia Select nights in September, October, and November | As low as $25 Enter a historic former Nike Missile Base and find out what lurks in the outer hills of rural Oxford. "You are summoned to the depths of the Oxford Hills, where the shadows of the past lurk in the darkness. The abandoned Nike Missile Base, a relic of a bygone era, beckons to you with its eerie silence." Brimstone Haunt | Wilmington, OH | https://www.brimstonehaunt.com/ Select nights September 12 - November 1, 2025 | $ Ticket Prices TBA "Nestled on Renaissance Park grounds off State Route 73 between Wilmington and Waynesville, Brimstone Haunt rose from the ashes of the much-loved Springboro Haunted Hayride (1987-2016). Opening in the fall of 2017, it introduced a trio of spine-chilling experiences: the Brimstone Haunted Hayride, Forgotten Forest (now “The Bog”), and soon after, Psychosis. The haunt's rural setting adds to the atmosphere with real 1800s graves, unmarked burial mounds, and the eerie nearness of Caesar Creek State Park (a town of New Burlington now submerged by its reservoir) woven into its backstory. The property's haunting legends are thoughtfully echoed in scenes throughout." The Dent Schoolhouse | Cincinnati, OH | https://dentschoolhouse.com/ Select Nights September 12 - November 2, 2025 | $ Ticket Prices TBA Enter the Dent Schoolhouse, a seasonal haunt attraction based in Cincinnati, Ohio that is often highly rated as one of the best haunted attractions in the area. "The old schoolhouse is now said to be haunted with the roaming spirits of the children that were “taken care of” by the Janitor. Rumors are that the Janitor came back after several years of the school house being closed. His body was never found, but his spirit is still said to clean the old building. The spirit is also said to have “taken care of” local trespassers that try to sneak a peak at his home in the basement." Halloween Haunt at Kings Island | Mason, OH | https://www.visitkingsisland.com/events/haunt Select Nights September 19 - November 1, 2025 | $ Ticket Prices TBA Halloween Haunt returns to Kings Island for 2025! "Halloween Haunt is the most immersive and haunting Halloween attraction in Greater Cincinnati, with a combination of unimaginable scares, chills and thrills that can’t be found anywhere else. The fully transformed amusement park features bone-chilling scare mazes and scare zones, sinister live entertainment and hundreds of horrifying creatures lurking in the fog and hiding in every corner of the park waiting for you. Haunting Halloween activities plus some of the most exhilarating night rides in the country, including The Beast, Orion, Diamondback, Mystic Timbers and Banshee make this one of the best things to do for Halloween in the Cincinnati area." The USS Nightmare | Newport, KY | https://www.ussnightmare.com/ Select nights in September, October, and November | As low as $25.00 Make your way through two decks of horrors as you embark on one of the area's longest haunted tours. Learn more about what awaits for those who choose to board the William S. Mitchell for this 30+ minute experience. These are just some of the ones I've looked into recently. There are a ton of others to look at as well. One fun place to look for various haunted attractions around the state is on Ohio Haunted Attractions. They have information for all levels of Ohio haunts from home haunts to festivals and all the way up to Halloween Haunt at Kings Island and Cedar Point. Timchat2
The production value and overall passion at Dent Schoolhouse is something special. We always love to see what they come up with.
DJSkyFoxx
I wouldn't be surprised if these attractions and any other see more foot traffic this year with the proposed up-charge model at the parks. I wouldn't be mad at it though. These places tend to have more freedom to set up the way they want to and turn it up to 10 if they so desire. Plus, there won't be any no-boo goofiness to interrupt the whole point of going in the first place.
Losantiville Mining Co.
The only two reasons I'm fine with the continued existence of No-Boo Necklaces is because it brings in money for the park and it allows some guests to come to an event that might have otherwise further traumatized them. There are better ways to deal with that than a light up ghostie necklace, but I won't get into that. I hope Kings Island brings back the interactive lanterns without splitting them into two different items — I'm looking at you Winterfest Ornament and Nutcracker Bubble Wand. That would at least help to keep Haunt where it's at. I've been really interested in the Area 13 haunt since it's way out north of Oxford and takes place at the decommissioned missile base. Hopefully it can stick around at least another few years while I try to find a job that will let me go out and do things like this.
Skyrider
Not exactly in the immediate Cincinnati area but definitely worth the drive is the Lewisburg, Ohio Haunted Cave which was listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest haunted house. It’s an actual cave with a mix of real scare actors and animatronics. Here is the link for more info: hauntedcaveatlewisburg.com

Losantiville Mining Co.
I'd have never found out about it if I didn't do some research for a project in college a few years ago! Turns out Miami University owns/once owned it. It's actually one of two sites for the missile base, but I think the other one is still used by someone for its radio/satellite tower. Area 13 also had a different name/operator (I think) when it first opened. That, combined with the fact that it's in a very remote location, makes it one of the more interesting greater Cincinnati area haunts. I'd love to get out there some day. If you are easily traumatized then simply don't attend Haunt and ruin it for others? That's why there's the likes of Trick & Treats during the day time when there are no Haunts or scare actors running about. Not to mention there are plenty of other area attractions that would appeal to families and those who wish not to get scared. And to add to the part with the money going into the park, they are already up-charging enough things and making that dollar. Fear Fest during the Paramount days didn't have the no-boo nonsense people were just fine. I have fond memories of the park really having a more sinister "turn up the scares" type feel back then and man do I miss that.

It also does not help that you attend Haunt and there are strollers with kids from 1 - 5 years old in them around the park. My youngest got to go to Haunt for the fist time last year. When I knew he was OK with it and would not ruin the fun for others. When he was 9, I did a test as we stayed long enough one Sat till the monsters were released on IS. We were on our way out of the park, but I noticed he was not a fan, so I did not allow him to go to Haunt that season at all.
Tr0y
With all the news lately, apparently all you need to do is walk around a downtown street to experience “haunt” for free.

The No-Boo Necklaces do more to cater to the chain's monetary interests than they do to help the overall guest experience. Unfortunately, Six Flags is solely in the business of making money with much less regard for guests in the parks. Yes, you'll have those who only want to come for the rides and don't like the Haunt stuff, but they are the outliers. 7 hours ago, teenageninja said: Cincinnati Fear Fest (Formerly Terror Town) in Williamsburg, Oh was pretty good, but took a big step back last year. I thought last year was supposed to be their big year since they merged with another event? Maybe I didn't pay as close attention to the reviews as I thought. 7 hours ago, IndyGuy4KI said: It also does not help that you attend Haunt and there are strollers with kids from 1 - 5 years old in them around the park. Prohibiting strollers and wagons during Haunt would do wonders for the event. Bags are already restricted by size so it feels like an intentional oversight to allow the strollers and wagons to stay/come in the park. If people are in the park with their strollers during Haunt, there also should not be much space for stroller parking as I fear will eventually happen. Making the event a separate ticket for non-passholders would probably also do wonders for the event, but I've typed for long enough.

It also absolutely wrecks my nerves when people always have those mega huge SUV style strollers/wagons that take up SO much walking path space. Like why on earth do you need such a huge device to tote ONE small human around? They're absolutely obnoxious. And the words "stroller" and "haunt" simply are not a good pairing. Take your littles to the family-friendly event during the day. Take them to the local pumpkin patch or the zoo. But please, for the love of whatever you believe in or don't believe in....DON'T take your itty bitty/small humans to an event that is meant for a more mature audience. It's such a disservice because the scare actors feel bad for actually being scary when there are small kids around and for the mature folks who are there to get scared and actually experience the event as it was intended, this just makes for a watered down event because people can't leave their kids at home for a night. Not every single event/place has to be inclusive of babies/toddlers/minors. There are already so few third spaces for 18+/21+ crowds that honestly it just gets to be a drag. And for the record, I am not trying to come off as a kid hater. I just want there to be at least one event other than Pride Night that allows for a more mature audience to enjoy the park as intended vs staff trying to soften things up because they fear upsetting kids and their parents for which they shouldn't be there in the first place.

AGREE Hopefully the extra cost to do the indoor haunts will help this. I wonder if they'll refuse sale to small children. Back in the day people wouldn't dream of taking their kids to haunt. Turning the event more intense slowly over till should get it back to that. Kind of hard for parents to complain that it was too intense for their 5 year old when the event is clearly marked "intended for mature audiences and not recommended for childeren under 13."
Losantiville Mining Co.
I wonder if it would be possible to instate a stricter chaperone policy for Haunt. Instead of supervised entry for minors after 4PM, maybe make it zero admittance for those under 13 after 7PM. HalloTween may have been a nice way to "add" an event to the lineup and give younger guests the opportunity to be scared without throwing them into the madness of Haunt. I wish they'd bring it back as a separately named part of Tricks and Treats. Apply some hostile urbanism-like tactics (yuck!) to the event (yay for Haunt). As part of the transition after 6PM block any designated stroller parking, only sell a limited quantity of No-Boo Necklaces (take the money where you can get it), and prohibit entry to any non-medical bags/carts over a certain size. It probably won't help the park make money from all of the families, but there are likely a good number of people who'd pull up to Haunt if they knew it was scarier and edgier with less children present.
