Hello! I decided to call this a PTR, as I have a few photos to share, but not much. I went with my mom, my sister Lucy, and her friend Abby. So, we got there just a bit before opening. In about 5 minutes, the national anthem played, and we headed off to Invertigo! When we got there, there was a trash can at the entrance, and nobody in the station. We headed towards Diamondback, but I saw Drop Tower running. The others won’t ride DT, so they headed to DB and I would meet them after this ride. I also didn’t see any crane by Delirium, and it gave a test run, which was a good sign. So, I asked the employee if this is open early today, and she said yeah, and they switched Invertigo to Drop Tower. Wonder if this is completely true. Well, I waited for the cycle to end on Drop Tower, and I was literally the only person in line. I was able to pick any seat. 2 other people did get on though, but only 3 people were on this ride. It was a fun ride, as always. I then headed to Diamondback to meet up with the others. So, I walked onto Diamondback (What I call a literal walk on) and I had a fun ride. My mom was in the row I was sitting in when the ride was done, so I sat with her for another ride. After that, I walked onto Diamondback for 2 more rides, and then I headed to rope drop by Eiffel Tower. Last time, I went to rope drop by Emporium, and this time I went to rope drop at Eiffel Tower facing Backlot. I wanted to go ride Flight of Fear, because once I rode it at opening and the first few seconds the lights were on. Anyways, after waiting about 10 minutes, I headed to FOF. When I got there, it was closed. So, I went to Firehawk instead. I got the first ride of the day. I of course, walked on. It was a fun ride, as always. (I hate how I never have anything else to say) I walked to see if FOF was open, but it was closed. I split up with the others, and we said we would meet up at the Ed Alonzo 2 o’clock show, as my mom loves it. Well, I walked to Racer now. There was a few people in line, and I waited about 5 minutes. Only Red was open, and I rode in the next to back row. It was a good ride, not to rough. And then, I was exiting and heading to Action Zone, and saw something. Delirium, running, with people! So, I thought it’s been closed all this time, so I’ll go ride it! The line was probably going to be about a 5 minute, 1 cycle wait, but nooo. Fast Laners. I estimate I saw around 30 people go through that FL line while I was in line. But, after a 2 cycle, 10 minute wait, I got on the ride. When getting my restraint down, my man parts got squished. Ouch. Other than that, it was a fun ride, and it is great that Delirium is back up and running. I was very thirsty, so I stopped for a cup of water. Then I went to Flight Deck. There was a small line at the station, and it was about a 10 minute wait. I got in the 2nd row. It was, as always, a fun ride. I decided to go up the Eiffel Tower, sense I haven’t done it in awhile. Still SBNO. Welcome back! So, it was a literal walk on for Eiffel Tower. It was, good. Got to see the views, and the lines. Hi Son of Beast! Diamondback and it’s short line. I saw Backlot just opened, so I decided to head there while the line was short. I still waited about 15 minutes, and got on, for a nice Backlot ride. I think the sirens on the police cars were off, but it’s nothing compared to the Backlot at Kings Dominion. Row 5. I thought I should go ride Vortex, but the line was kind of long, so I went to WindSeeker instead. WindSeeker was a 15 minute wait, and as always offered nice views. I wanted to head to Beast now, so I went there. The Beast was about a 10 minute wait. Now, here on KIC, I heard that there was stuff going on in the Crypt building, visible from The Beast line. I didn’t see much, but 2 large doors at the ground were open, but I couldn’t really see through them, I just think I saw electrical stuff and maybe a table. Anyways, The Beast was a fun ride. But when isn’t it? I saw that Diamondbacks line was just down the stairs, so I headed there. I got there and the line started under the track. It was only about 5 minutes, and another great ride. I felt kind of tired, and just headed to Planet Snoopy, and decided to give Woodstock a spin. It was a literal walk on, and for the back row. And wow, that first drop isn’t that bad! It’s a fun drop! Don’t misjudge it. After that, I decided to get something cool and sit down, and I got a cherry snow cone. The price said it is $4.99, but including tax, I only got charged $3.82. Maybe there’s a gold pass perk here that was not mentioned anywhere there. But, anyways, I sat down for about 15 minutes and enjoyed my snow cone, then it looked like there was about 40 minutes till the Alonzo show. So, I thought I had time for 1 more Woodstock ride. I waited about 5 minutes and had a fun Woodstock ride, then headed to the Alonzo show. I’ve never seen the KI Hall Of Fame. Well, I got to the front of the right door for the Alonzo show. The others showed up barely before the doors opened. Well, we did get front row seats, front and center. The show was good, yet a little old after seeing it 3 times. But, different volunteers can make a funny difference. Lucy wanted to do Delirium, so we headed there. This would also be her first ever ride on Delirium. It was a 5 minute wait, and the ride was similar to before. We then did The Racer, for our last ride. There was some problems going on, but they were fixed. Lucy and Abby rode Blue and me and mom rode front in Red. It was, well, what do you think? So, then we left, and I had a FUN 10th visit to Kings Island! A couple notes: *Delirium of course is back open. Who’s glad it’s back? *Apparently, Invertigo swapped for Drop Tower for ERT. I wonder why. *This isn’t about KI, but on The Beach sign, instead of saying Thanks for 27 years of great memories, it said A New Adventure coming to The Beach in 2013!, or something like that. Well, as always, thanks for reading!8 points

Well, let's see... KD holds a special place in my heart. It was the place I took my first coaster ride - on the Scooby Doo. KI holds a special place in my heart. It was the place that generated my fascination with parks and coasters. I have a deeper connection to KI because of the vast amount of time I have spent there. I still get "THE" feeling when I walk in. I have an eternal connection to KD because I visited the park in it's infantile days and I experienced all the original rides and attractions firsthand. When measured up, I think KD has the edge on a rides package, but KI has the edge on feel and layout. HOWEVER... KD lost MAJOR brownie points when they removed the train for Waynes World - the largest mis-step in the parks history IMO. KI lost MAJOR brownie points when they removed the Antiques and Eagles for IJST - the largest mis-step in the parks history IMO. KI was the original - but KD was built on the lessons learned from KI. In conclusion, I have to tip my hat to Canada's Wonderland as the winner. That park has chugged on and on for years like the little engine that could to become the star in the chain. Wonderland was built on the lessons learned from BOTH KI and KD and it combines the best features from both parks. It is, quite frankly, a far superior park to either KI or KD. And it pains me to say that ;-)3 points

Hey all, this is MDMC01. I recently went to Dollywood and I'd like to share my experince with you all. Although I have written previous trip reports on my Facebook page, this will be my first KIC trip report; enjoy! After getting to the park around 9:30, I got a locker for my stuff and headed up the hill to Mystery Mine. MM was great; I was the only one on the train! I then decided to ride Wild Eagle. Having never been on a wing coaster before, I didn’t really know what to expect. The seating arrangement was not as scary as I thought it would be (I thought your body would be more exposed, like on Slingshot); it was sort-of like riding Flying Ace Aerial Chase, only the track was beside you. Overall, it was pretty fun. After this, I decided to try the Adventure Mountain ropes course. This was pretty interesting and was a bit freaky at some points. After my first run, I decided to try again because I chickened out on one of the obstacles the first time around. After the ropes course, I rode Blazing Fury. Last time I came to the park, this ride freaked me out a bit because I didn’t know what to expect. I was still a bit creeped out by the pitch dark sections of the ride. After Blazing Fury, I decided to ride Tennessee Tornado. This ride is awesome and reminds me of a cross between The Vortex and Flight Deck. It’s short but sweet. I ended up riding a second time again. After Tornado, I made my way to Daredevil Falls. While on board, I noticed it didn’t take as long to get the lift (the last time I rode, it seemed to take forever!). After getting only a little bit wet on Daredevil Falls, I decided to head to Barnstormer. Although it was a standard Screamin’ Swing, it was pretty fun. The bummer is that after the ride hits its highest point, it starts to slow down. I then headed over to the Country Fair area to ride Dizzy Disk and Lemon Twist. Dizzy Disk was fun, but the restraint always kills my back. Lemon Twist was pretty fun as well. Having circled the park once, I had pretty much done everything I wanted to do for the day. I then decided to head to Thunderhead to give it another shot. Last time I rode, I thought Thunderhead was sort of rough as I was banged around from side-to-side. I decided to ride in the very back- probably not the wisest choice. Once the train got over the hill, I was pretty much out of my seat more than I was in it. Although Thunderhead was still a good ride, I will NEVER ride in the back again. After getting roughed up on Thunderhead, I decided to get something to eat. I had an amazing pulled pork sandwich at Hickory House BBQ. After eating, I decided to walk around the nearby eagle enclosure before making my way back to Tornado again. After putting my stuff back in the Tornado lockers, I rode again. It was around this time that the park got a lot more crowded, so lines were a bit longer. After this, I rode Wild Eagle again. It was a bit rougher this time as I sat in the very back on the end seat. I then decided to try River Battle, which was awesome. I got completely soaked! I then decided to cool off on Mystery Mine again. As with Wild Eagle, I got an end seat and it was bit rough at times. I finally rode Tornado two more times to dry off some more. As I was walking out, I realized Dollywood had a roller coaster mueseum. Unfortunately, I did not have time to walk through it. For those keeping score, here’s my total ride count. Adventure Mountain (1st time): 2 Barnstormer: 1 Blazing Fury: 1 Daredevil Falls: 1 Dizzy Disk: 1 Lemon Twist: 1 Mystery Mine: 2 Tennessee Tornado: 5 Thunderhead: 1 River Battle (1st time): 1 Wild Eagle (1st time): 2 Like I’ve done in past trip reports, I’ll list the best rides of the trip. They are: Tennessee Tornado, River Battle, Mystery Mine (the 1st time), Thunderhead Finally, I apolgize for the lack of pictures. As mentioned before, my stuff (including my cell phone which has a camera on it) was in lockers for most of the day. -MDMC012 points

I especially love the part about The Crypt. I may be one of the most excited for the new Haunt. Even if it sucks like a couple other Haunts *cough* Tombstone Terrortory *cough* Mysteria *cough cough*, I'd still do it at least once every time I go, just to see Durga, the queue, and the lava pit. Like every other report you make, I say that this was no exception in saying that it was EXCELLENT! I am so glad that Delirium is back open after weeks of being down. Glad you had FUN! Thanks for posting!2 points

There were a lot of upset people who purchased 2012 season passes and, had The Beach not honored them for the '13 season, would probably never had returned. It is highly unlikely they'd have purchased passes for next year, but if given them free, they'll hopefully visit and spend on food, merchandise, and the like.2 points

Kings Dominion has more rides that suit my likes (KI has NOTHING remotely comparable to I305), they got the GOOD coaster from GL (that should still be there) in the Dominator vs Firehawk battle, my personal thought is that KD has better Guest Relations and general employee attitude (granted, this was last year pre-Ouimet, and Ive heard rave reviews about the employees at KI this year), and the general look of KD is leaps and bounds above the appearance of KI, due to the more wooded nature of KD. Given the choice, I would personally far prefer to live 2 hours from KD than from KI like I do now.2 points

If you're really hot and want to cool of, you should go to the water park. If you don't care about the heat, I would skip it. There's nothing special about it.2 points

Why would you want WiFi while at KI? Go ride the coasters, flats, etc. Rather than ride Facebook.. (Yes, I realize I'm extremely late.)2 points

I'll gladly help if I can (as structural mechanics are some of my favorite things I've studied in school), but I'm a little confused about what you're writing about. Like, are you just describing the visual differences in various KI support structures, and then trying to relate those differences to the purposes of the structures? That's the impression I'm getting from what you're saying, but I want to be sure. An example of what I'm saying: you observe that Diamondback has thick, cylindrical steel supports, but Adventure Express (or Beast, Racer, etc.) has rows and rows of rectangular wooden beams that are assembled into certain wide shapes. You then try to describe why Adventure Express would have wide supports made of a weak material compared to Diamondback's supports? Or maybe it's something like: you observe that the Eiffel Tower gets wider at the base, but the Festhaus (or Drop Tower) stays the same dimensions on all sides. You then try to describe why the Eiffel Tower needs wide supports at the bottom, but the Festhaus doesn't, despite the fact that it's a physically wider and longer building? Just trying to get a better idea of what you're looking for. EDIT: WHOAAAAAA MAN. Post 1000. I just hit post 1000. Definitely never thought I'd see this day.2 points

I prefer the one with the Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Fresh Horses, Evil Knievel, Robbie Knievel, Paul Revere, Wallenda, Dick Van Dyke, Carmen Electra legacies, which happen to be in my beloved hometown. But that's just one biscuit's opinion.2 points

As we've previously stated, the Crypt building will be used for a new Haunt experience for this year and beyond.2 points

Do you mean around the general area or inside the actual park? I'm pretty sure there is not, unless Starbucks has one like the majority of their locations, but being as that one is run by Kings Island who knows? I have a blackberry so wi-fi is not needed at the park.2 points

It is nearing the end of summer and Watson's should be having their close out sale on in ground pools. Tell them we have $1 Million to spend and we want you to build us a pool that will have huge waves. I am sure Watson's can do it for the dollars they have to spend. As for the huge waves, they can do that on the cheap. Just hire a bunch of super heavy weight wrestlers and have them do belly flops into the pool. That should cause some waves.1 point

No one knows if the park will be busy that day...weather affects turnout. If you are considering buying them I would say wait until you see what the crowds are like. Being that it is a Tuesday you probably won't need them....but if you do, since it is a Tuesday they wouldn't be selling out fast.1 point

If you feel the need to get on the net with your smart phone, just use your phone's data plan and connect with it that way. All you are going to do anyway is to post something like, "hey, here I am at Kings Island..." You are at the park to enjoy yourself not to get your Facebook fix or something else like that.1 point

What kind of camp is this? Is it an architectural camp, a civil design type camp? The supports of a rollercoaster may not exactly hit their intent (you talk about buildings a lot) if its an architectural camp. However a civil design type camp and discussion about using the terrian and the roller coaster supports would be interesting. building wise, Kings Island is kind of a boring place, but there are a few exceptions that would actually make for a good paper as it would force you to limit the conversation and not drag things out. KI Theater, IIRC, has columns out front. What kind of columns are they? What are they supporting (roof only I believe), are there other visible supports? The oktoberfest restaurant has internal beams that are visible. Are they wooden or steel (I can't recall, never thought about it much until today)? What about the front entrance? Are there archways that you pass thru? Take a look at all of the stations, The Beast station uses a lot of wood, perhaps exclusively wood, while Vortex uses a combination of steel and wood. There's a "walk-over" bridge to get to Vortex's station. Dinosaur's alive has a tent setup for their gift shop, I haven't paid close attention, but I'm guessing the support system is a bit unique to anything else in the park. Then of course there is the Eiffel Tower which definently has unique supports to anything else in KI, there's probably even a lof of disscusion around the web about the one in Paris that you could learn from. etc, etc, etc.... The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced KI was a great choice as their's a lot of variety tucked into a small space. When is the paper/website due? Wouldn't hurt to call KI and see if there is someone willing to take you "behind the scenes" into some of the buildings to get a look a better look at how they're supported. I'm not sure how receptive KI is to something like that, but they might have someone willing to give you an hour of their time, can't hurt to ask. Since this is a technical discussion, I don't think you need to worry too much about being a wordsmith. Technical papers are fairly dry to begin with. It won't hurt to describe things in interesting ways, but I wouldn't get bogged down attempting to make it too flowery. Get to the park and take a lot of pictures, pictures can often describe things to the human eye much clearer than words, they'll help you craft a description. Go beyond just looking for the structural design, but see if you can't get pictures of how the structure ties together. Bolts, welding, nails, screws, etc.... Different things are tied together in different ways. When you look at something, try to get a sense for what you think the design accomplishes. For instance, The Beast station really gives you the feel that your out in the middle of the woods. You can talk a little about the history of The Beast, and how it originally had a pond around it that gave it that Saw Mill kind of feel, talk about how the surrounding woods tie into the theme of the station, etc... Go back to flight deck, talk about the platform giving you the impression of stepping onto an aircraft carrier. what does Boo Blaster on Boo Hill do on the exterior of their building to give it a haunted Castle type feel? I guess I should take back my early comment about KI being a "booring" place in terms of buildings. Its actually quite interesting, just not what you typically think of when it comes to a "building". There is a ton of variety, take as much of that variety into thought and start describing it. I'll be at the park tomorrow afternoon, evening. I'll pay closer attention and see what other areas of the park are a bit unique. Good luck1 point
