  1. The following quote was posted in January... The following phrase was posted today... I GIVE UP!
  2. I actually wish they would just make it completely pitch black in FOF save for intermitent pulses of very bright white light. The current lighting I feel adds no drama and actually detracts because you can see everything to whole time.
  3. Oddly enough, no one really has said something I didn't miss till last year. Many of us probably still remember these, the old boat and monster truck games, although they were nickel and dime games, they were classics of my days at KI, I still see the old remains and think about what if, which I think about many things..
  4. I think a better way to look at this would be, "What do you miss from the pre-Cedar Fair KI?" Even though I grew up with Paramount's KI, many of the things that I miss weren't contrivances of Paramount. I miss the Kenton's Cove keel boats, The Eagles, Skylab, the Antique Taxis. I miss the characters, the Paramount music, and themes of the rides. For me, Vertigo will also be known as Faceoff, Drop Tower as Drop Zone, Flight Deck as Top Gun. I miss the bridge that the train used to traverse, and the pond that was behind the foliage clock. And who can forget the Paramount Walk of Fame? They had the frickin' Wayne's World car, party on! While we convene on this matters, though, we should probably remember that the youth of today will hold similar memories of today's park, recalling them in nostalgic wonder.
  5. Yay sit down restaurant.
  6. My brother in law loves Joey Votto, not because he is the best Reds player, but he battles Panic Disorder, which I watch my brother in law battle everyday. Its a battle that needs to be won, more than baseball.I felt it was right for me to share that here.
  7. In answer to Hanks question, nothing can be done to make them noticeably faster on a consistent basis. Coasters are designed to go the speed they go and increasing a coasters speed would have catastrophic consequences further down the road.

I would go one step further and and add little blue creatures that live in mushroom houses. It might also be fun to use boats instead of the current propulsion system.
  9. RiverTown. Coney Mall, Action Zone. I'm everywhere and nowhere
  10. I wore number 14 in honor of Pete Rose playing high school baseball, basketball, and football. He was my idol,I loved the way he played the game.My grandfather knew his dad, great people to know. I just checked Kings Islands website and I see Pete's jersey! Im sorry, if Pete walked past you and didnt have time for you,but thats the life they live! I have been blown off by Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant before in private events! I didnt hold it to them, they live every day with people wanting a piece of them! Imagine living that way,it sucks! If you dont like the Reds family and this great addition to Kings Island than dont post here! Let the rest of us real REDS fans love it! I cant wait for 2013,if you dont like it,focus your negative energy somewhere else please! Im loving our Reds to win it this year!
  11. Kings Island's All Star Reds Resort?
  12. Call it Riverfront . . . that's nostalgic.
  13. In lieu of the (hopefully short termed) absence of a great historical thread that always helps us get through the off season, I believe this fine thread deserves a bump/second look This was probably my favorite thread ever posted on these forums!
  14. Not sure what us worse than gambling, but that is your call. The 1919 Chicago Black Sox paved the way for gambling to be treated as the # 1 unforgivable sin in sports. Pete's only saving grace was that he didn't bet against his team. If he would have just came clean, there is no doubt he would not only be in the HoF, but he would have been managing again.
  15. Yeah, if you go that route I might be willing to pay $25 or possibly even $30. And yes, I'd love to have my username on the back.
  16. I'd be interested in a shirt if the price is reasonable (no more than around $15, maybe $20 for a standard t-shirt).
  17. In case some of you don't follow Don aka @KingsIslandPR on Twitter he tweeted this picture today of the construction of the Reds Hall of Fame Grille

  19. I am also a graphic designer and work in the printing industry. I've branded a few products myself and think the new logo has great quality with a clean and simple appeal Simple is always better!
  20. I agree, this new logo would look nice on a t-shirt while walking around KI. I think it would start quite a few conversations with guests and other enthusiasts!
  21. Are we going to be able to get T-shirts with the new logo? The one I have with the old logo is getting a bit faded
  22. Good to see Montgomery Inn ribs & pulled pork coming back to the park. I never dined at the International Restaurant when it was open (although I've been up there plenty of times since), so a full service restaurant at KI will be a new experience to me. Can't wait to try it.
  23. Wait, is this actually "full service?" As in you sit down, a waiter serves you, you tip them at the end and so forth? In the past, the buffet was billed as "full service," hence why I ask. It'll be interesting to see how the wait staff, if there is one, compares to the "service" found in the Foods Department in previous years.
  24. Pete Rose is beyond embraced by Reds fans,we love him! He bet on baseball because he had a gambling problem,he did it with a pure heart and never for the Reds to lose, but he still messed up.I think he's payed his price by now and baseball should embrace him again. Thats just how I feel.
  25. ^ This! With utmost respect to Holiday World's reputation, the nicest park employees I've ever met have been at DW. My family, who mostly doesn't care one way or another about theme parks, even noticed how nice the park staff there is when we visited last March. I'm just bummed I still haven't made it to the chicken restaurant. Basically, the best trip advice for Dollywood is to definitely make sure you visit Dollywood.
  26. Ride Thunderhead as much as possible. That is all.
  27. Well I definitely miss the old Nickelodeon slime show and the green slime tower that sprayed water every so often in Nickelodeon Central.
  28. I miss greatly the themes of the park Cedar Fair downgraded like Rivertown (removing Swan Lake and the fitting music), Hannah Barbara, international street and the gardens having an actual majestic feel, and also i hate when the fireworks go off they now play Katy Perrys worst song (in my opinion) Firework. Oh and i deeply miss the original Tomb Raider: The Ride.

No, that's a great song!! It gets me so hyped for DT. My change would be for Flight Deck to receive a paintjob similar to The Bat's and rename the ride "Revenge of The Bat." I completely agree!! I don't think the music on Drop Tower should be changed, It has grown onto the ride in my opinion and it adds to the ride expirience.
  30. I miss Rivertown. Diamondback really did a horrible job to the area. Don't get me wrong I think DB is a great ride, I would rather have the Rivertown that truly had the essence of the old west than the city street it is now. That place is one step from having a sports bar in Rivertown Junction.
  31. I miss the theming of rides such as top gun, tomb raider: the ride, and Backlot Stunt Coaster. Also I miss the paramount story (tower gardens) that area has really gone down the toilet.
  32. Hendrick is out of town at the moment...he was hoping to be back in time to post today's fade himself...but he PM'd it to me in case he didn't make it...so here it is: As always, thanks to Hendrick!
  33. Wow, lots of fun comments on yesterday's photos...it IS appreciated. I can't thank you enough for making this worth my while. I can identify with this totally! If you aren't at the park with a little one it's like the kiddie area doesn't exist...and if you are with a little one the rest of the park vanishes...but happily. No offense taken at all...I will be the first to admit that there are some boring shots here...but I just figured that boring was better than nothing. I agree with you in a way...if I were judging JUST from the tower, and JUST by the looks and not the rides, 1974 would win most of the time with me. I miss it too...it was simple yet added SO much! Today's photo set is one of MY personal favorites! 1974 I just love looking at the skyride from this angle, it is so colorful! Even though the skyride scared me as a kid I really wish it were still around...although I can completely understand why it was removed. Also notice the cool strand of hanging lights! 2011 See the tree, how big it's grown...but friend, it hasn't been too long, it wasn't big... (One of the worst songs of all time...but my mom used to play it a lot. She used to have it on a vinyl 7" single...which everyone called a "45"...until the early 90's when the "kids" started calling them "singles"...then by the late 90's the major record companies called them extinct...but luckily there's still some indie companies still carrying the torch!) There is absolutely no doubt that I would love to be back in 1974 with this set of photos.
  34. Sounds like a five star attraction. Or a 22 star attraction! Terp, he of the obscure yet relevant references
  35. Thank you for doing this, it has been such fun looking at the pictures of the park that I grew up at. It's been great to show my daughter how the park looked when I was growing up compared to how it is now. She is turning into quite the KI enthusiast.
  36. I officially love this topic. Say, when was the last time The Racer got a fresh coat of paint anyhow?
  37. Definetly 1974. Well, actually 1990, because of the backwards racer, but thats not a option. And I would like that patio back, looks very nice. And I kind of like the tunnels, bu the thing I don't like is everyone throws there gum and boogers on the wall, So its quite discusting when you go through there.
  38. The tunnels are, to quote Sir Charles Barkley, turrible. I do not know what the thinking was behind that. One can hope that a fresh coat of red, white, and blue paint this offseason will freshen the old girl up. Removing the silly tunnels is probably too much to ask.
  39. why did they enclose them anyway?
  40. The tunnels are nasty. It doesn't matter if they're clean or not. For me, they totally spoil the mood coming back to the station. I really like all the green in the 2011 photo though! ... and still love The Racer, of course!
  41. All rides use energy, some more than others...
  42. Wow, all those driving attractions, and now they're all gone. It must have been all the rage in the early 70s. Given that I'm partial to those types of attractions, I'd pick 1974 all day long. Thanks again!
  43. I have not been on here in a long while. Not only did I use of my quota of "likes" on your photos, you have managed to get me to sit here for almost 2 hours reading and looking at this topic... i love the photos well done... and I miss those cars
  44. Well, as promised, today’s photo set is a little more interesting to look at than yesterdays. (You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have the facts of life… ) 1974 The Dad in this photo doesn’t look too thrilled to be riding in the car…but I bet in the long run it was a good memory. 2011 As you can see by the cornstalks this photo wasn’t taken at the same time as the others…I didn’t quite get the shot I needed in the summer so I had to retake this one…out of 31 shots this was the only one that I had to do this with. Not bad odds eh?! So, where would I rather be standing today 1974 or 2011…this is one of the few shots where I could go either way. I think the cars would be about as much fun as Surf Dog…if I HAD to choose I would go with 2011 because I know that one of my nephew’s favorite rides (Peanuts Off-Road Rally) is back behind Surf Dog. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
  45. KI was not built with backstage areas in mind for some reason.
  46. '74 easily wins this one. The landscaping at the park in the early years was just downright beautiful.
  47. I like 1974 better of course, and whats funny about this thread is I can't relate to 1974 much, because I wasn't born yet! Again, great thread Standbyme.
