  1. Plans change, sometimes many times. Just imagine how upset you'd be had he told you we were getting a huge new ride in 2013, then it never happened. Don has a job to do. Don himself may not always know the future park plans. Even when he does, they may change. And he's supposed to generate good public relations/marketing for the park, not prematurely spill beans. How would he do this by telling future plans to park customers? Marketing/PR isn't in the business of telling everything they know. For good reason.

  2. Don is toying with you guys. You do know he reads the boards here? By using the word diving, he is providing a diversion,

  3. A yearly promotion for Season Pass sales before gold goes away. Proof of absolutely nothing. Maybe that's what it is. Maybe not. Not every communication from the park is a clue.

  7. You could look at it that way, or you could be happy since you now have a shorter time to wait until new steel arives at KI my friend! If Don didn't look both ways and then whisper into your ear, I wouldn't expect him to tell you the future plans for the park word for word, as that would probably be a breach in his employment contract. Now think about it, Don told you in 2012 that there wouldn't be a new coaster for a few years.. 2012 turned into, 2013 which looks like it is turning into, 2014 before construction is complete. So we lucked out since 2 years is the shortest possible "few" years we had to wait.

  8. I can imagine the entire KI team sitting for their morning coffee and thinking of creative ways to establish a brain freeze on these boards. I agree, Don is toying with everyone... and enjoying himself at the same time. I wish I could be in his position, because I'd have the thought processes so screwed up that everyone would be absolutely convinced that KI would be building the world's largest Dippin Dots Stand. This topic has drained a ton of time for everyone- and provided useless entertainment for the rest.

  9. I like an odd genre of music. I've heard it referred to as post-hardcore (whatever that means; I think it's mostly like rock) and then I like alternative and indie. I'm not much for genres, so I'll just name artists. Gimme a shout out if you like any! Of Mice & Men, The Devil Wears Prada, August Burns Red, Chiodos, Pierce The Veil, A Day To Remember, old school Attack Attack, Panic at The Disco, Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, Transit, Set Your Goals, and a ton of others. (I was going to name more. But I could seriously go on for days.) I'm a huge music guy.

  10. You wanna talk public outcry at CP? Try wearing a Kennywood t-shirt to part like I did yesterday. I had no fewer than 8 people, both guests and employees, make comments about it to me. The comments ranged from "yay, Kennywood" to "you're in the wrong part of town, kid" to "are you trying to start a riot or something". I didn't know people at Cedar Point even knew what a Kennywood was! Back on topic, here's a photo taken today at around 6:30pm. Based on what's visible in the park, I've got no idea what this could be. Based on what we've seen online, I've gotta agree with Shaggy's prediction. If the past holds true, we'll know in August. The whole former Son of Beast area:

  13. I guess I'm the only one not wanting a giga coaster. Yeah, it would be fun, but it's not what Kings Island needs.

  14. I, for one, am glad not to know what's going in that area. I like the suspense and I like being surprised. The construction going on behind that fence is going to provide a lot of mystery this summer and half the fun is watching the progress unfold and trying to figure out what it could be exactly. Now there will come a time when there will be no doubt, but until then I'm happy to wait and wonder!

  15. Could just as easily be talking about something they have planned for the waterpark later this summer....

  16. I am saddened when reading this thread because here I am thinking that I am at the pinnacle of my Dodgem career, only to find out I have been playing Tee-ball. I really do need to consider going to another park besides Kings Island. Maybe Cedar Point this year.

  17. You know, the legend is that the scream of a Banshee signifies the death of a family member. Well, we recently witnessed the death of a member in the only coaster "family" at Kings Island. Furthermore, if this is a coaster, and is B&M, then it will surely have the trademark B&M "roar", as well as screaming riders. Boom. Potential Banshee name justified.

  19. The ride would have been taller still but for height restrictions caused by...Hartsfield International Airport. Terp, cross threading...everything's bigger in Texas...and New Jersey.

  20. I cannot help but believe that 100% this is going to be a B&M Giga, for some reason by soul will not let it rest on my mind.

  21. Hmm...well, I was looking at Kings Island on google Earth today, and I noticed something interesting...not even related to the 2014 construction much, but to start...(WARNING: Lame Paint Images ahead!) Action Zone 2014 with the rumored Giga Coaster. Pink squiggly line is the q-line. The Former AZ water tower is replaced by a huge entry plaza for the new ride. However, the SOB station sits un-used except for the Wolf Pack haunt, until Wolf Pack vanishes for some reason in 2017...Timberwolf Ampitheatre is also destroyed...then, in 2018... A wing coaster opens, using the old SOB station! It uses the old SOB q-line, too. OK, in all honesty this is actually not very likely. By 2018, Vortex and/or Flight Deck will probably (and sadly) have kicked the bucket, and even if not, the next expansion will probably be in X-Base or something as Action Zone will have just gotten a huge new ride a few years earlier. I just thought it interesting that this possibility even exists...

  22. GYK, Your passion for the amusement industry, and your innate ability to carefully and clearly articulate your thoughts, ideas and experiences through the written word are what set your posts, more specifically your trip reports, in an echelon apart from any other user on this website. You truly are the best thing for these message boards because the reader can, in addition to learning the finer details of each park or even attraction you write about, we sense your excitement and passion which is, for lack of a better word, infectious. This trip is something 95% of the readers here will never get to experience in their lifetime and what's more, is you didn't solely go for the Disney aspect. Sure it was a big draw, but you took advantage of so many other Japanese "must sees". I get so discouraged when I see readers here articulate a thought and it comes across as their life is completely consumed with the amusement industry and virtually nothing else. It's almost like tunnel vision. Make no mistake, to me, you are the best contributor KIC has. I'd be lying if I said quality posts like yours were in abundance, that the 'fluff' was in the minority, but sadly it is not the case. It's a shame so few people have responded to thank you for the hard work you put in sharing your thoughts and experiences with this community without needing to speak in puns, use anecdotal phrases or being just snarky. It's informative and flat out enjoyable to read. So, on behalf of all the other users who won't bother to put their gratitude in a reply, consider this to be an all inclusive "Thanks".

  23. I am torn. On one hand I love tall rides. But on the other hand I do think that if were getting a B&M Giga and it were to be taller than the Eiffel Tower, I think it would take away the feeling and the majesty of the tower being the main centerpiece of the park. So maybe instead of breaking records in terms of heights, we go for something else... New At Kings Island For 2014! Kings High School: The Ride "A Ride so long you'll leave the park!"

  24. There was a tweet that said 308 That tweet was in response to @gahannaman on Twitter asking the park to think of a meaningless number between 300 and 309. http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/26972-a-diversion/?p=501485 Clearly, @gahannaman was trying to extract a hint about a giga coaster. Perhaps the response was a hint, or maybe it was a false clue. Or it might have just been Don picking a number.

  28. Footers are in the ground. Construction is actively taking place. Most everyone agrees its a coaster. Most think its going to be named "Banshee". Most are hoping its going to be a B & M. That is all that is known right now.

  29. Maybe, plus I don't think it'll "dwarf" the Eiffel Tower for similar reasons... the valley it's in is pretty deep. It'll look tall from the outside of the park, but not as tall as it really is. Phantom's Revenge is a good example of a ride that has a drop that's longer than you'd think because of the valley, which is a really cool effect.

  37. We caught the first show at noon where many Brady Bunch superfans waited hours before the park opened to get in line to get the front row seats. There was also quite the line wrapped around the outside of the building 45 minutes before the show started. The show opened up with Barry Williams (Greg Brady) singing and introducing his fellow cast members. The crew than showed clips of their favorite episodes including The Cincinnati Kids at Kings Island. Barry performed "The Real Greg Brady" followed by a Q&A session. Members of the audience were invited on stage to learn the Brady dance to "Its a Sunshine Day." After dancers returned to their seats the audience was invited to get their photos and autographs from the stars. Photos of the days events here.

  38. On Tuesday morning I had woke up after having several dreams about going to KI including Don driving several KIC'ers around the park. I was in a need of a day to myself so I decided I was going to take a vacation day and spend it at KI! I left the house at 7AM and got to KI about 9AM. It was quite chilly in the morning, but was to warm up during the day so I decided to leave my jacket in the car.I was hoping for an empty park for lots of rides. When it was about time for the park to open the scanners came and talked ot everyone and greeted everyone to get everyone pumped up which is always a nice way to start the day! The first destination was DB where I got in 8 rides in during ERT, and rode 2 more times before moving on to another ride. Then I went and rode The Beast 2 times. BLSC was not running that day for some reason so I went on to Vortex! I then headed to Firehawk and rode it 2 time in a matter of minutes. Here is a look at the CM midway around 11 AM. I then went on a ride on Dodgem and Racer! I started heading back towards PS and got some pics of the fountains! I then went and rode FAAC and SD. I still enjoy riding SD even by myself. (Coaster or not) It sounded like a good time to go ride Beast again times two! I then went and rode Zephyr and Dodgem again. I realized I had not rode AE yet so I went and rode it! Still very hard to get used to an empty field next to it. I then decided to hit up Delirium and then FD two times. When I got to the park I saw a lift being brought in on a flatbed park. I think I saw the same lift over by FD. Could it be we will start seeing steel being erected soon in the Project 2014 area?? I then went and rode DT and Invertigo! After that I was getting hungry and wanted to check out Reds Hall of Fame Grille. The really went over the top with this restaurant. Wait staff were great! Here is the view on the patio! I then went and rode DB 3 more times and that third time was my 300th ride! I got some pics of DB through the day. I then rode Beast, Vortex, FOF, and FD. I took a few more pics of Project 2014. I see this as a great queue entrance! I then enjoyed the Backyard BBQ. This was my first time trying it and it was very good. I had the fried chicken! I then got 8 rides in on DB before heading out of the park at 7:40ish. I had a great day! Got a few more pics before leaving! A great relaxing day a the park! Ride Totals: DB: - 22 Beast - 5 FD - 3 Vortex - 2 FH - 2 Dodgem - 2 Racer - 2 Invertigo - 1 Delirium - 1 AE - 1 Zephyr - 1 FAAC - 1 SD - 1 CF - 1 Total: 45

  39. The lift hill would probably only dwarf Diamondback by 20 or so feet if that were the case. The former coaster's station sits maybe 50-60 feet off the ground but isn't in the valley; the lift hill started in the base of it. If the hill were moved back to where construction is now, we'd have looked at a first drop at almost 260-270 feet. Still, I'd expect a fairly steep lift hill/first drop for Project 14/"Banshee".

  40. considering theres a drop in elevation from where the "station" is and where Top Gun and the rest of the cleared land is.. could it be that it won't be 308 feet tall. but a 308' Drop using the elevation change. Just a thought.
