So my fiance and I decided to take a trip to KI Saturday evening since they were open until midnight. We got there around 8:30 so we had a good 3 1/2 hours in the park. The first thing we noticed when we were pulling into the park was how full the parking lot was. It was definitely a crowded night at the park. So we went on in and went through the gates and we noticed the Kings Island refillable sports bottle stand set up to the left of the fountains. We decided to pick one up. It was only $9.99 and we got free refills all evening and boy did we make use of that! We're looking forward to our 99 cent refills for the remainder of the season. So for the first ride we hit up Adventure Express. This ride is a great guage for how crowded the park is on any given night. If AE has a line, then the park is definitely crowded! The line went out to where the entrance sign is. We thought, "What the heck," we had just gotten a refill on our drink so that would give us time to relax with some ice cold cola. As always, the ride was great fun! Next we decided to just take it easy and stroll down Coney Mall. We passed an arcade and decided to go in for a bit. I noticed a claw machine with some Marios and Yoshis in it and decided to give it a shot. I went to the token machine and put my dollar in and waited for my tokens. Out came two tokens and I stood there waiting for two more. I waited, waited, waited....then realized tokens were now TWO for a DOLLAR not four for a dollar! What in the world KI? Anyways, I proceeded to the claw machine, put in my two tokens, positioned my claw, and pressed the button. The claw went down and up came a Yoshi! And an amazing thing, the claw actually gripped it as it yanked it up and swung it around to the drop. I claimed my prize and we decided to move along to something else. We finished our walk down Coney Mall and stopped for another refill then decided to head towards Stunt Track. We arrived and saw the line....nevermind. The entire queue was full so we moved along. We headed down towards The Beast. By this time it was 10 and the fireworks were going off. We stopped down by the Diamondback splash down and watched them for a few before walking around towards The Beast entrance. When we got there, the entire queue was filled on that too. It would've probably eaten up the rest of our night waiting to ride. What ashame. I was looking forward to a nice night ride on The Beast. Maybe next time! We decided to take a night ride on the train instead and got to the station just as they were loading! We boarded and off we went. And this time when we rode, something interesting happened. Please fill me in on this as I was not familiar that they did this. When we arrived at Soak City (it was almost 10:30 and Soak City had been closed for quite sometime now) the announced over the speakers that if anyone had anything in their lockers that they could get off and get it out. Anything in the lockers? The water park was closed. Are you allowed to leave things in those lockers the rest of the night? I was not aware of this. I assumed that you had to empty the lockers out before you left Soak City at closing time. We sat there on the train and waited as one family got off, walked inside Soak City and emptied their lockers in a water park that had been closed for 3 and a half hours. This was new to me. I had no idea they did this! You learn something new everyday! So we got off the train and continued into Planet Snoopy. We decided to take a ride on the Kite Eating Tree since we had never tried it before. It was a nice little thrill and the line wasn't long at all so it was a good choice. Next, we walked into the Snoopy Shop (whatever it's called) and looked around a bit. After that it was into Boo Blasters to blast Boocifer away! My fiance and I stood in the lobby/queue area and discussed all the minor upgrades that could be made to really make this a unique ride. Perhaps I'll have to start a post sometime so that I can list all my ideas. One though would be to create a Boo Blasters mascott character and have him mounted where the Maestro used to sit. This character would be an animatronic and would explain the history of the manor and why you want to blast the boos. This would be similar to what Disney does in their queue lines. Just one minor thought I had. The ride was fun and I ended with a score of 1,700! We exited Boo Blasters and decided to head over to Action Zone. When we got there we looked at the fencing that is blocking the new 2014 attraction area and noticed some new additions. Now I haven't been on the 2014 thread in quite a while so this might not be new news, however, on the trees they have little signs hanging that says "No Camping." Also, you can see where they added a new sentence to the original signs on the fence that talk about the screams and such. This new sentence talks about "evil activity" and you can see where it's just a sticker stuck over the original sign. Quite interesting I thought. I'm sure you all have seen this already, but I thought I would mention it. So we took the long journey to the Flight Deck loading station and as always it was a walk on. We boarded and had an amazing night flight. That's such a nice little ride and it's ashame that it's kind of underrated. By this time it was 11:45 so we decided to grab one more refill and make our way to the park exit. We took our time and enjoyed the sights on the way out. We walked to our car and left the park. It was a crowded night, but all in all we had a great time. Hopefully next time though, we'll be able to do more coasters!10 points

This is a conversation bro, maybe your doubting your self coolness and think your cool by putting youngstud down. Not a conversation Broseph.... You spout endless upon endless rants about Intamin. The rest of us have grown weary of your intamin love. We get it. Intamin = Great, B&M = not as great. Whatever. I dont doubt my "self coolness." I am married to a woman who loves me, father to a son who adores me, teacher to students who respect, friends with people who rely on me, brother and son to people who care for me. I could not care less what people think about my "coolness." When you get to a certain age being cool does not matter.... I would love to have a conversation about the impact some of the intamin coasters had on CP. But to state that the park was not great beforehand is stupid and short sighted.7 points

Isn't that what forums are for? No I meant no disrespect to Terpy. We just disagreed on things. It happens. I hope he feels the same! But of course. These are discussion forums, and we were discussin', not cussin'.7 points

To clear this whole thing up completely and forever for the rest of time (meaning the next page and a half), The Exact Quote Is: "There may not be a day this summer that we announce what we're building for the future." You can interpret that pretty much any way you want. It will come at night, it will come after summer, actually the word "may" at the beginning of the sentence invalidates the certainty of the entire quote. There may be a day, there may not be. It's good PR. It suggests several things but says absolutely nothing. As for tonight's announcement, who knows. I would not get my hopes up, though.6 points

Rave reviews? I must have missed them. The ACE rep at the time, who truly loved the park, was reduced to saying "It's a wood coaster! I love wood coasters! And Kings Island has a new big wood coaster!"6 points

As Interpreter said, it's totally different. Don's statement is open-ended and answers the question without answering it. Classic PR. You can change the meaning of the statement just by placing the emphasis on different nouns. Day, Ride, Summer...6 points

I'd be very surprised if this were the case... KI historically closes all offices for 2 weeks around Christmas. Also, from a PR standpoint, it's not wise timing. On Dec 25th, virtually everyone is "distracted" from press.6 points

you could't care less is what you mean? I suspect he does care some.... I fell right into that one. Being on here for four years I should know better than to say that!6 points

Heart-warming? I bet they are adding a new spicy sauce to Hank's Burrito Shack. Are heartburn and heart-warming similar?5 points

I have my doubts that tonight's announcement will be about the new ride for 2014. Why would KIC announce it and not the park? That doesn't make any sense.5 points

They are not the same. If a ride is announced in the evening during this summer, what Don said is still true. Remember to read between lines. This is a classic PR, media, politician and court room speech.5 points

Cedar Point hit it's stride in the late 1970s to early 1980s. I actually credit the high profile installs of Gemini and Demon Drop with laying the groundwork for their "thrill seeking" demographic. Quite frankly, CP jumped on the bandwagon following KI's install of Beast. KI got world-wide coverage from that install.. other parks... such as CP, took note and followed suite. The installs since have allowed them to maintain their reputations. But I think the proper question would be "Where would CP be without the Marketing Blitz of the early 1980s?" Shaggy5 points

He is just someone that likes to push buttons to get a reaction. Just wait until Kings Island announces their new ride isn't an Intamin. I can just imagine all the Big Sexy topics from this Young Stud.4 points

I think you are cool too brown. we are all awesome! Broana Awe, as I tell my students, lets define your hypothesis.... So you are saying you believe the hype generated by Intamin prototype rollercoasters, helped make CF well known around the world and a thrill seekers paradise. I would refer to Shaggy's answer that the hype machine was started in the 80s. And most of the hype was related to the park not the coasters. I would believe that most parks want you to know the name of the park and the ride not the manufacturer of the ride.4 points

Also there is alot more arrow in the park than you realize. Antique Cars Cad Cars Turnpike Cars Corkscrew Gemini Snake River Falls Magnum Iron Dragon Earthquake (Defunct) Mill Race (Defunct) Pirate Ride (Defunct) White Water (Defunct) Original Shoot the Rapids (Defunct) Compare that list to Intamin AG;s Maverick Millenium Top Thrill Wicked Twister Shoot The Rapids Disaster Transport (Defunct) Demon Drop (Defunct) As you can see, Intamin has played a roll in the park no doubt, but I give Arrow more credit for helping shape the park into the world class amusement park it is today. Intamin may have installed a few more "firsts" and "bests" originally, but they are nothing without the R&D, design, and creation of rides and attractions like Arrow has for Cedar Point.4 points

I've been following this thread for a while but had nothing to contribute until now. I know there was a small lynch mob formed because of a supposed sighting of Intamin track on I-71, but I have something to report. I'm not going to say for sure that I saw coaster supports on I-275 (just past the Coney Island exit and before the Highway 52 exit), but I think I did. There were two trucks pulled over on the side of the road, each with about half a dozen long cylindrical support-looking objects on them. The "supports" were silver...shiny silver, not gray. A couple of them had smaller cylinders branching off of the main post. I'm not an expert in coaster supports, but that is what they looked like to me. Since they were pulled over, I didn't realize what they were until after I had already passed them and I was on my way to work, otherwise I would have tried to get a picture. I work in Clermont County, but it seems like the trucks would have had to have come from Kentucky or Kellogg Avenue by the way they were facing. So, if this turns out to be nothing...don't hunt me down and beat me. But if it does turn out to be something, I just wanted to put it out there that I saw them.4 points

Mr. Toomer said the smoothest seat was 5-1, around which the ride was designed. But what would he know? He just designed them, but did not ride them. That being said, I do find 5-1 to have the least violent ride.4 points

To defend myself from earlier: My favorite steel coaster is Raptor... so to say I hate inverts is simply... No. I was saying, literally every single B&M invert has a loop, zero g roll, cobra roll, maybe a dive loop, couple corkscrews, then a helix. I love B&M's and I love inverts. But you can not sit here and tell me that they are unpredictable. And if ya don't believe me, go through this list and look at the 'elements' portion of each ride. http://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&ml=67173 points

I really think Don is just trying to throw us off here. He said "it may not be announced in the summer" not it will not. I will be very surprised if it not announced by the end of Summer (Sept, 21,I think).3 points

Cedar Point was a great park with record breaking coasters before the Intamin coaster additions. There is no reason to believe it would have changed without them.3 points

The ride ops stapled you in as much as they could at America. It was awful. Thanks everyone for NYC tips. I usually don't take spontaneous trips like that, but I finished America by two in the afternoon. It was awesome. I'm sitting in a Mcdonalds' parking lot waiting for SFGAdv to open. I'm running on two hours of sleep. Wish me luck.3 points

So we're building a floor-less inverted restaurant to sell "foot longs" - and "triangle nachos"? Boy, that IS progress!3 points

Something that hasn't been talked about much is a single rider line. I would like to see a single rider line on the new ride! Maybe I don't come by myself but their is times I'm willing/wanting to be split from group to get on ride quicker.3 points

Just so everyone knows, records can come and go, but a good ride last a long time. So, it does not have to be a record breaker (even though that would be nice) in order for it to be a good ride.3 points
