  1. Please, let's not have anyone try to sneak in tonight that wasn't invited to the event.

  2. It has certainly been a interesting week here on KICentral. We are seeing a massive influx of new posters and traffic that is very exciting to us all. A few things that we must all certainly keep in mind as we are all in this journey together as to Whats in Store for "One Four." KICentral has been around for 10 years strong now and while we have had issues in the past, none of which have been as dumb as someone did this week. As we don't know if they were a member or not on this site, it still put a dark cloud over our close relationship with the park. A individual made an inappropriate post recommending to go to the park "ASAP" in which person did just that (after hours) was caught by K.I. Security and when questioned, referenced the post. We have assisted the park in their research in this matter by quarantining the thread in question. The park has completed their investigation and have dealt with the appropriate individuals. On to some good news. With KICentral getting larger and larger we have migrated to a new server that is cloud based. This means if one server gets too busy, we automatically load balance ourselves onto a new machine seamlessly. The DNS server changed this morning, while this change was instant for some users, others may have experienced delays. Any posts made by those users today will be stuck on the old server. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience as I have never seen a DNS server swap take this long before. In even better news, since the investigation is completed in the trespassing incident. I'd like to announce that we will be continuing on as planned celebrating our 10th birthday at the park on Sept. 8th. Lots of special activities planned for the day with more details to come. This event will be free with park admission.

  3. If there's enough interest we'll move forward with an outing on September 8 that will revolve around a series of fun activities. Also, more details to come as we get into the offseason, but keep the weekend before the Super Bowl open.

  4. Here is the thread, please maintain a good fellowship and keep on topic. Lets not let a incident like that happen again.

  5. If you see this message, you are now using the new KICentral.com cloud based server. This will allow for faster page loading times and a more stable experience. Some recent posts from overnight may have been lost during this transition. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

  6. No any posts made after made a full backup late last night will be MIA. I had too.... 1. Create a full cPanel backup 2. Compress it 3. Download it 4. Upload it to the new servers 5. Decompress it 6. Tweak some settings for the databases 7. Change the DNS nameservers. I see a nap in my future today.

  7. Hello all! I am a very rare poster, longtime lurker... probably for more than 10 years already. I had the opportunity to spend a week visiting relatives in Cincy earlier this month, and what visit would be complete without a trip to Kings Island! I would have made an attempt to meet up with some of you at the park, but the particular day of our visit was decided at 9am the morning of, so I really didn't have much time to plan ahead. A little background on me, as you can tell by my user name, my home park is SFGAm. However, my first visit to a theme park ever, was to PKI in 1998, so KI will always be very special to me. Beastie was my first coaster ever, then 1 hour later I became hooked for life when I rode The Beast for the first time. I generally only get to KI once every few years, but every time I walk through those gates, I feel like I'm home. It's actually kind of funny, I can still look around the park and remember exactly what it looked like that first time... KCKC, Hannah Barbera, red Top Gun, Adventure Village, Flying Eagles, King Cobra, antique cars... It's amazing how much has changed. But anyway... We arrived at the park around 9:30am, with amazing weather... no humidity to speak of, bright sun, and a light breeze. Decided to wait at the chain into Action Zone. At 10, we jogged quickly to: Invertigo: First train of the day! Made sure we rode this first, because I didn't wan't to wait in line later. It was fun! Much smoother than I remember from a few years ago, and I definitely love the new colors! After deciding to pass on Drop Zone, we dashed over to... Delirium: Walk on. What can I say, I LOVE this ride. I wish we had one at SFGAm! We wanted to ride it again, but the line sure filled up quickly while we were on it. Decided to head over towards X-Base but got distracted along the way... Adventure Express: Walk on. Still love this one after all these years, its just a fun ride. Now on to X-Base: Firehawk: Third train of the day. Entering X-Base, I was floored to see Flight of Fear with a 60 minute wait alredy, and all outdoor queues filled. However, we were shocked to find Firehawk opening up as we stood there, so we jumped in line. While it is a fun ride, I guess I no longer enjoy these types of rides. As I've gotten older (almost 30 already!) I seem to have less of a tolerance riding on my stomach, and I am average build. I feel the same about Superman Ultimate Flight at SFGAm, I usually skip that one as well unless it has no line. These flyers just don't do it for me anymore. Afterwards, FoF still had a 60 minute line, so we meandered on over to... The Beast: 20 minute wait. I still love this ride!! It has been my favorite coaster ever since 1998. While there are a lot of awesome rides out there, I still keep this my #1. I love the ride( do miss the old brake system though;), there is nothing else like it, a fast insane ride though the woods. It was not rough, but just bumpy enough to add to the experience. This ride just does it for me, the whole experience, the history, the legend... The Beast!! Everyone in my family just loves this ride. Our late afternoon, and night rides were made more interesting by a very active and vocal ride op. Didn't catch his name, but I still don't know how he could still have a voice left by 9:30pm! Our night ride was nothing short of AWESOME, and we were able to get the last train out of the station before the "temporary shutdown for fireworks show". Next it was off to... Diamondback: 20 minute wait. LOVE this RIDE!! After quite a few rides on this now, I still can't decide whether I like this ride more than Raging Bull. Diamondback, from the first drop to the midcourse has awesome airtime, but I like Bull's first drop better. Never the less, Diamondback was probably the best addition to Kings Island since Vortex, and is definitely what this park needed. All 3 rides we took were in the back row, as I will never ride a hyper coaster anywhere other than that. Love the whip effect over the top of the lift! We got off Diamondback just in time to see the "spin the wheel" game roll up in front of DB. Between the six of us, we probably spent $20 on this, lol. The result was 8 skip the line passes, and two Buy One Get One Free for cotton candy! Now it was time for... Eiffel Tower: 5 min wait for elevator. This is the first time I have gone up there in years. Had to get a good look at the 2014 construction! Based on what I saw during my visit to the park that day, I am fairly certian this will be B&M based on the footer cutouts. The only type of coasters I can see this being is an invert, or a wingrider... and I'll most likely be wrong! I would love to see an Intamin Blitz coaster, or a multi launch like Cheetah Hunt, or Verbolten. Anything that launches is fine with me! Back on the ground it was off to the Festhaus for LaRosas pizza for lunch, and then a nice hike back to... Top Gun: 10 minute wait. I REFUSE to call this ride Flight Deck!!! I'm not sure many people realize it, but this ride is a gem. Suspended coasters are so rare, it is truly a treasure to the park, and unless maintenance became an issue, I can't see why the park would remove it. It's sad to see people always pushing for it to be the next coaster on the chopping block. As always, this was a nice fast ride! It just isn't the same without the SOB near miss though. Next up.. Red Racer: 5 minute wait. Fast, fun, and smooth! I am always worried as I get on this ride, as it seems to be quite rough some years, but smooth other years. Rode Blue Racer later on, found that to be just as smooth and fun! Next it was time to use our skip the line passes; Flight of Fear: Line was still 60 minutes with half of the inside ques filled, plus the outside ques. Used our passes, and were rewarded with a front row ride! Love the launch, dark tunnel, and the blinding camera! But WHY does this ride need to come to a full stop in the midcourse! It kills the pacing of the ride. Still a favorite though. After FOF, we took a few more rides on The Beast, Diamondback, Blue Racer, and Adventure Express. Mixed in a few flats that I haven't been on in years... Zephyr, Monster, and Viking Fury. After this, four of the six of us headed home, while me and my coaster buddy cousin decided to stay until closing. Took a lap on WindSeeker(god I hope SFGAm doesn't get one of these!), then it was time for a beating... Vortex: 10 minute wait. Now, I'm not one to really ever complain about a ride, but this was one of the most painful rides I've taken in YEARS. I don't know what happened to this ride since 2011, but it isn't good. If the train came right into the brake run after the first drop, I'd be fine with that. Rode towards the back of the train the first time, then a few hours later tried out the front half of the train to no avail... actually this time I though I broke my jaw, lol. Maybe it has to do with that getting older thing again, because all of the little kids on the ride seemed to be enjoying it. Alas, as long as it is standing, I'll most likely still ride it. Backlot Stunt Coaster: 30 minute wait. As I said before, I very much enjoy launching coasters. This is a fun little ride, with an unfortunately trashy theme job. I could cry looking at this area of the park, remembering how beautiful it was when the antique cars were here. Oh well. Afterwards, on a spur of the moment decision... Wild Thornberries/Kings Mill Flume/Whatever Charlie Brown Name this has now: 10 minute wait. I had never ridden this before, so this was a new experience in the park for me. Now, I hate being wet in my clothes, so why I agreed to this I will never know. As we waited, I did an intense study of each boat coming down the drop. After being sure we were properly loaded(me= heavier weight than my 15 year old cousin so I sat in the back) we were off. Now I don't ride many log flumes, but this one seemed faster than most other ones I've been on. We were able to avoid getting wet on the drop, but I hadn't noticed the snoopy that sprays you before you get back to the station! All in all it was quite fun. After this we took our last ride on Diamondback, then used our last two "skip the line" passes for another ride on FoF, hit Vortex, then a night Beast ride, then a very quick ride on Adventure Express as the fireworks were going off. One thing that is obvious, is how spread out Kings Island is compared to SFGAm. At GAm, you can ride four coasters without ever leaving the same little area, but KI's are all spread out. Definitely felt it in my feet and legs the next day! We had an excellent day at the park. The perfect weather, combined with short lines made for a perfect day. You guys have a beautiful park, filled with great rides. Whatever 2014 brings, will only compliment what is here already. Thank you for reading! *Jason

  14. Thank you, Snowman, for the kind words. As a long time employee of the park (this year's Haunt will mark my 22nd season with the park) in a variety of positions, and as a fan for even longer, I enjoy sharing any knowledge and insight that I can, and reading the experiences and insights of others. On the flip side, I am sometimes tortured by biting my tongue and keeping quiet on things that I can't talk about yet, or ever. (Lately, this usually happens around this time of year, when we Haunt associates learn of new and returning attractions that haven't been announced yet, and I want to say where I've been placed but have to wait until the official park announcements). I discovered the predecessor to this site, PKIU, while I was employed with the park years ago in a management capacity. Since I was in the position that I was, I just lurked there. But then during a 3 year hiatus from employment with the park, I discovered this site, became a member, and have enjoyed myself thoroughly with the discussions and friendships, both in real life and "virtual", that have been spawned from here. Everything is cyclical, including this site. Like our favorite rides, it has it's ups and downs, it's twists and turns, some people get off, new ones get on, and some of us like to marathon it as much as we can, dreading the day that we reach that final stop in the station.

  16. * it is too early to say "we" lost a great relationship. * "After this, because of this" is often not true. Just because B follows A does not mean A caused B. Yes, the trespass apparently occurred. Yes, the event was postponed. That does not mean the event was postponed because the trespass apparently occurred. To hold every KIC member responsible for the irresponsible actions of one or two members is just as silly as holding every Methodist responsible because one member killed a puppy. It doesn't make sense. The Kings Island management team would not do that. There could be 101 reasons the event was postponed. The reaction here isn't helping matters.

  18. I want to share my thoughts about past and present KI employees who read/post on this website's forums and hope you will do the same. With all the hoopla(5 forum pages in 24 hours) about the new ride coming, and the vitriol (flaming, shredding, generally pi$$y back and forths) flying around here, I'd like to send out a genuine "Thank You" to every KI employee past and present who post here. I'm leaning on my 3rd year as a member of KIC. My wife and I moved to Cincinnati after vacationing here in 2009. I wanted to find out everything I could about my new home park and found this site after an employee told me about KIC. I had hundreds of questions that were all answered, some with humor and sarcasm but all were answered completely. (To the newbies: Ask if "anyone" knows an answer to any question you might have... go ahead... I dare you!) I received the most thorough education about Ki thanks to the many members and employees who shared there knowledge on these forums. Then came the what "Was DA going to be?" thread and people began fighting so much they locked it and many members disappeared. Well, here we go again. I don't want this latest fiasco to turn present/past employees away from KIC. I don't think the newbies here realize what a treasure trove of knowledge can be learned on these forums. The new ride will be announced soon, and this will all die down, many newbs will disappear, and maybe things will get back to normal. Hopefully not too many of you are soured on all this. Please stick around, you all are muchly appreciated.

  20. Why debate? The park KNOWS why the event was postponed. Why you or any other user THINKS it was really matters...and the park can remove a bad vibe many users are feeling by simply stating why it did what it did. Again, if all users are being held accountable for the apparent idiotic actions of one or two, that's really sad.

  22. I've only been a member on here for about a month, so I think I'd still fall under the "newbie" category. I joined not only to follow Project 2014 (which was how I first discovered this site), but also to carry on insightful, friendly conversations with people who share the same interests as me. Already I can tell there are some great people on here, and I've had several chats with members. Making new friends and contributing positively to things both related to and not related to KI is what this site is all about. Let's all just move on from what has recently happened and try to rebuild our community. As new and inexperienced as I am on these forums compared to some others, I hope to gain your respect and friendship. I will help as much as I can to move this site away from prior events, and help move it in a positive direction. It's time to refocus and bring KIC back to its glory.

  23. This was the track that was spotted outside CSF a wile back. Looks to be straight. That track in the quote is still at CSF, and in the same place as the photo as of yesterday when I was there. Look at the twisted track to the left. That is the top of a zero g roll or the top of a corkscrew. This is most likely for a floorless or a sitting coaster. Examples:

  25. As TheCrypt said, even though this poll has been made plenty of times, I don't feel like being mean today so: Flight of Fear. It's a very underrated ride IMO and is even better than Diamondback and The Beast.

  26. Well said, Snowman! Speaking for myself (and like if anyone agrees): I think our love for what KIC has been for us is stronger than even this current, passing storm of controversy, and it would take a heck of a lot more than that to make at least this member want to abandon/walk away from it.

  27. If I could only ride one coaster per visit, it would always be a toss-up between Diamondback and The Beast. Once in a blue moon; I would switch it up with Invertigo.

  28. Diamondback, just cause it's awesome. But The Beast is awesome in a completely different way. They're uncomparable, and I love them both, so for me the winner is Diamondback--but my favorite could change depending on the day. Sometimes I feel like The Beast is better, other times I think Diamondback is better...They're both so different.

  29. Diamondback for steel, The Beast for wood. I don't even attempt to compare steel coasters to wood ones because they're totally different animals.

  30. Hey everyone -- It always baffles me when I have to make posts like this because I assume that the vast majority of you are smarter than what I'm about to address, but none the less... Under no condition are you to enter the park illegally - whether you have "hot info" about any kind of delivery that may be coming there over the next few months... Unfortunately, I have to address because it has already happened. Being banned from the park, being arrested, and all sorts of bad things may happen to you if you choose to do this. It's simply not worth it. Also, those who choose to break park policy - and we hear about it - will be removed from the forums and will not be welcome at future events. On that same token, don't ever EVER enter the construction area. For the love of God. Not only is that stupid, but it's dangerous! By all means: peek through the cracks in the fence, check it out from the Tower, ride Drop Tower (no photos, please) but don't ever ever ever illegally enter the construction site. That is all.

  32. We all hit one or two meatballs into foul territory in our lifetimes, even if our intentions are good. I once accidentally gave away the location of a nuclear weapons convoy over two-way radio (there was a car accident along the route and, in a panic after watching three small children ejected through the front windshield, I gave the exact location in the clear --instead of using special code language as was required). By all rights, I should have spent the next 6 years busting rocks at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Instead, amid all of the vitriolic calls for my 21-year-old tuchas on a silver platter with relish, one level-headed captain made a decision to forgive, and to tell others to take a deep breath and examine all aspects of the case for what it really was worth. I learned a lesson; moved on and was much, much more careful. Forgiveness is a very powerful thing.

  33. Perspective There is an illusion that the entire site thinks the exact same way about one member's post. In the last two weeks, 240 active members either visited or posted on KIC. As of this post, there have been only 74 comments posted to this thread, many by the same few members. This is only one subject out of an astronomical combination of possible things about which to discuss our beloved park. If it gets too hot in this proverbial kitchen, heck, go over to the family room and talk about The Beast, WindSeeker, Timberwolf, PotatoWorks... don't just run out the front door into the cold; we're kinda family here.

  34. Bottom line, in my opinion anyways, which isn't worth much in a court of law, much less an internet message forum: the person who did whatever they did wrong has no one to blame but themselves, regardless of what they may or may not have read on this site. End of story. HTCO saying "get down here ASAP, you really want to see this" (paraphasing) then continueing to post in a manner of "I know something you don't know" is the essance of trolling. He may or may not know anything specific, but his actions reeked of someone trying to whoop up attention (and since some say he works at the park, perhaps he works in PR and is simply trying to attract attention to the park, though in that regard, one could take note from Don & terp who say a lot without really saying anything) They are two seperate issues. The first one I have problems with, and am glad the police or KI management dealt with it and let it be known that it won't be tolerated. The 2nd doesn't really bother me. Like many, I was excited to find out what may have been there, but I wasn't about to drive over in the middle of the night, I lost no sleep over the issue, I didn't get up any earlier than usual to check out the forums, I didn't swing by the parking lot on the way to work, etc... it didn't change my day, however the next time HTCO wants to claim something big is going on, or claim to be sharing a bit of previously unknown/posted information on this project or anyother, I'm going to take with a big ol' grain of salt, he's essentially been "downgraded" in my eyes, nothing more nothing less. I take this site for what it is, an outlet to share information on KI. Sometimes it provides great entertainment, sometimes it provides great insight, sometimes those 2 lap over each other, and sometimes there's a big ol heap of dog piles. Its up to the individual to figure out what is what. What is insightful to me, may well be common knowledge to others. What entertains me, may bore others. Some thrive on the dog piles of the world, others prefer a nice diversion. I doubt the park wants to shut down this site anytime soon. 1st, another one would pop up somewhere else, 2nd its a great additional PR firm for the park. There is a good reason Don mentions the site frequently in his tweets; he knows that by getting people to come here is another recruiting tool to draw more visits to the park. Not everyone is into facebook or twiter, this site allows another outlet. Out of site is truely out of mind, KICentral keeps the park in the sites of many, and therefor is another tool to help drive profits at the park with little or no cost to the park itself.

  35. Good lord I've been reading on this site since 2009 and never seen such an uproar on the KIC community! I think this whole new ride stuff is making people go crazy on here! Is it really to much to ask for us all to get along?! If you disagree with something someone said say so but in a nice manner or say nothing at all! Theirs been times I've seen people post stuff I may not like or disagree on but I don't blow a gasket. And no i'm not saying i'm perfect. No one is... Anyone doing something as stupid as breaking in a park or construction zone deserves and a ban from all CF parks and possible fine/jail time.

  38. No, they don't. Fanboys do! And I'm sure that the people at KI understand that any idiot can start an account in these forums and that their actions are their own. Holding every person with a KIC account responsible for the actions of a rogue individual is as illogical as calling every KI employee a thief because a dishonest employee at a food stand was caught slipping a few dollars from the register into his or her pocket.

  44. Yes. As I understand it... It was designed and proposed by the Dinn Corp to Americana originally. This was one of the last coasters built by the Dinn Corp before it became Custom Coasters International. Denise Dinn actually was driving Dinn Corp by then, her father was semi-retired I believe. They proposed the coaster to Americana - who ultimately couldn't afford it and/or passed. Ed Hart (who was in the midst of a building frenzy at KK) then contracted them to build a wooden coaster for KK and they used the drafts from the Americana proposal to build Thunder Run. Ironically, the Dinn Corp was also proposing a design to KI at the very same time. There was a fallout at the Dinn Corp, Charles Dinn retired, and the company folded - negating the wooden coaster proposal for KI. KI, under the leadership of Carl Linder, then contracted Arrow to build a suspended coaster. In late 1992 Linder sold KI to Paramount, but the suspended was still contracted to be built, and the theme was altered to "Top Gun."
