  1. ^ That and 8 lbs of apples is $1. I can say with certainty that I've never bought 8 lbs. of apples. 10 cans of peas for $1? That would be one of Kroger's 10 for $10 deals nowadays. That's the most detalied description I've read of that planned park. Just think... if that had actually happened, I may never have worked in an amusement/theme park (much less for 22 years) and I probably wouldn't have gone as often (since it's farther than KI is to my house). Right now in some alternate universe, there's someone posting on Frontier Worlds Central about a cornfield in Kings Mill, OH that was supposed to be a new park with a 1/3 scale replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

  2. Guys I received a large surprise from the Kingdom today. I learned I was being promoted to be in charge of the operation of the Thunder Zone. Apparently I have really impressed in the last few months with my quality of work. This will give me an even greater chance of interacting with some of you as I will be moving sporadically throughout my zone to ensure smooth and proper operation. I just really hope I am able to live up to and exceed all standards that are expected of me and I am now ready for Kentucky Kingdom's 2014 season. See all of you guys there!

  3. It's the life of a Kings Island enthusiast. I'm always looking forward to the future of Kings Island. I can't even wait for what happens in 2018. Or 2030. What?! What can it be?!

  5. If you just heard someone say that, it might be incorrect information. As CoasterOhio noted, a source should be cited. Posting incorrect information can result in needless calls to the park, untrue rumors, and even questions from the media. Kings Island really appreciates it when we don't let that happen. Kings Island maintenance staff and state ride inspectors have a lot of work to do with each ride in the park before it can open for the season. Drop Tower is apparently a bit late this year. Rides are complex machines with a lot of individual parts which must be inspected, refurbished, and/or replaced on a regular basis.

  7. It's a well-known fact that talks of moving Coney Island Cincinnati originally sprung from the fact that Coney had been ravaged by floods throughout its history on the banks of the Ohio River. However, another factor the helped move the project forward so quickly was that Fess Parker, TV's "Daniel Boone" and "Davy Crockett" announced that he intended to build his own theme park near the intersection of I-71 and I-75 in Kentucky. The competition wouldn't have fared well for Coney Island. Check out this article from the Nevada Daily Mail that talks about Parker's plan to build his own Frontier World in Coney Island's back yard. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1908&dat=19680920&id=GkUrAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ctQEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2328,1051949

  9. Both rides are unique and can run 3 trains each without a MCBR. However, sometimes they do block on top of the lift hill. Definitely worth a re-ride. But you must exit the train and rejoin the line. Both load and unload have the retractable floor that operate independently of each other, so safety reasons, you must exit the trains each time. I rode them a couple years ago, and they are still just as smooth as when they first open. Definitely get down there. I am not a fan of the movies either, but I was completely 100% impressed with Forbidden Journey. It replaced Spider-man as my number 1 dark ride. Had absolutely no idea what was going on, but I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. You have to ride Forbidden Journey. I love Banshee, it has taken my number 1 inverted spot from Montu. Banshee is one of those coasters that just gets better with each ride.

  16. Probably the reason you don't see a Peanuts dark ride in our park is because Boo Blasters was commissioned by the former CEO, who saw fit to save money by ordering the same re-theme to all existing Scooby Doo themed dark rides. Our dark ride happened to be in the Peanuts-themed area, but that's not the case at all of the rest of the Cedar Fair parks. And Kinzel wouldn't waste a time personalizing ours. That would be outrageous!

  23. And yet Kennywood has a fantastic one... I beg to differ. The 1972 brochure lists The Enchanted Voyage as part of HB: http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/197x/pki197x1_2.html ... as does the 1974 brochure: http://KICentral.com/history/photos/displayimage.php?album=8&pid=247#top_display_media The 1989 map lists Smurfs' Enchanted Voyage as part of HB: http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/1989/pki1989index.html Even in the Paramount years, Phantom Theatre's ride entrance & exit are firmly in the pink HB section of the map. 2000: http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/2000/pki2000.html 2002: http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/2002/pki2002.html And with Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle, same thing. The "Attraction Locater" section of the 2005 map even has a pink circle number next to the ride name, indicating it's part of Hanna Barbera Land and not International Street (which has green circles for its attractions). 2004: http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/2004/pki2004.html 2005: http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/2005/pki2005.html

  26. At visitkingsisland.com, the price is $64.99 per ticket, plus $5.99 processing fee per order. Five people would be a grand total of $330.94. Assuming that it's still offered at Kings Island's front gate for the same price, the total total there would be $324.95. Parking at Kings Island would be $12/$15, at parking at Cedar Point would be $15. You might save some money by purchasing your ticket at a participating Kroger or Meijer store. If you choose this option, call the store you plan to visit to verify availability and price. If you buy the tickets at Kroger on a weekend and use their fuel points coupon, you could save $1.30/gallon on one Kroger gasoline fill-up.

  27. A lot of people read this message board, so there are often real consequences when bad information gets posted. Something overheard from a member of the public, another KICentral member, or even a ride operator isn't necessarily something that should be published online. I don't mean to single you out; this is in general. The terms of use of this site require that any "insider" information have a source cited. Unless this source is a person authorized to represent the park (Guest Services, public relations, etc), posting it here is probably a bad idea. You don't want to post incorrect information, and you don't want to get any park employees in trouble.

  29. I never had that experience (forcing our 5 year old to ride). From the moment he's been tall enough to ride anything, he's always been more than willing. However, after riding drop zone several times last year, all of a sudden he became convinced that he was too scared to ride it, or it made his stomach feel funny. I don't ride Drop zone, but Mom loves it, so she was always with him while I waited with our youngest. Since she is pregnant this year, I guess he gets a reprive as I'll only jump on if he insists and talks me into it, he had to force me on Drop Zone rather than vice versa 1x on that thing was enough for me. We'll see if he stays on past seasons pace and grows the next 4" before the summer is over to ride Banshee. Of course, then we'll have to see if Mom will let us, since she's ride free this summer. There was a comment in there about the best time to go with small children. One little tidbit, and its not going to work for everyone, but if you kids can stay up late enough, the last hour in Planet Snoopy during the middle of the week is often empty. Since my wife is a teacher and the kids are out of school, they generally stay up a bit later in the summer since they can sleep in and take longer naps. You can get a bunch of ride cycles in b/w 9:00 & 10:00 in Planet Snoopy. Another thing to note, is pay attention to what you kid can ride, you may not think they're tall enough to do much of anything, but there are some things in there. Our 1 year old was on the obvious rides that most parents would think about, the Train, Merry Go Round (x2), Boo Blasters, but she was also on The Monster, and whatever they call the mini-Whip it last season. Neither have a height requirement. My wife said she didn't look like she enjoyed the Monster, but she loved riding Whip It with her brother last season. I'm not sure if she's 36" this season or not, she'll turn 2 in a few weeks, I'm sure she'll love Charlie Browns Wind Up, The Red Baron and a bunch of the other 36" tall rides in Planet Snoopy.

  32. Thanks the Kidd for the vote and yes I defiantly know my way around Disney World Parks and resorts. My latest visits have been more in the way of in and out (few days) visits due to running events and such. I do recommend RailRider as he has been going a lot lately with his little one and is most up to date. I know he sees the value of preplanning to get the best value and family time.

  33. With meetups, people generally don't stick together in one large group. Getting everyone there on the same day might not be necessary, except for special events that everyone wants to attend. (Coasting for Kids, Coaster Crew event, ERT events, announcements, Closing Day, etc)

  34. Here's my view on it: It could be themed to The Great Pumpkin (not including that The Great Pumpkin Coaster is right next door ). It has always made me wonder why its not Peanuts themed when it is located in Planet Snoopy and the ride workers are wearing Planet Snoopy uniforms.

  40. I'm kinda jaded, I guess... I've never been that jazzed about Eurofighters. I've ridden Spongebob Squarepants Rock Bottom Plunge at the Mall of America, Mystery Mine, and Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags over Georgia, and none of them were anything to write home about for me. Dare Devil Dive is one of the most uninteresting rides I've ever ridden, and the capacity seems way too small for what SFOG requires. I can't imagine that thing ever not having a full queue. In the same way that Georgia Cyclone uses Rocky Mountain Construction's Topper Track to compliment the ride instead of redesign it, I'd like to see Beast get some work done. Somewhere around here is a topic about making up your own future plans for the park, and I still stand by my post with the idea of very subtly remodeling Beast to introduce more laterals and remove the number of trim brakes. It would do wonders. That's the next coaster I'd like to see at the park. In response to the original post: no, I don't think the way they marketed Diamondback rules out getting a bigger ride in the future. It just meant that Diamondback was the biggest ride in the park's history. I do think that it isn't likely that we will see a bigger ride any time soon, though; coasters seem to come every five or more years with the way Cedar Fair works now. And for me, that's okay. With Banshee, Kings Island's lineup really doesn't have any major holes. I'd rather they put in new family-friendly flats for the next decade, but that's me.

  50. Also remember that Cedar Point ERT is open to all resort guests, which requires a larger area to deal with the much larger number of people. On top of that, CP has four gates and it's not reasonable to expect everyone to use one gate given the layout of the resorts. Transmitted from Wild Space via my datapad's DROID brain
