  1. Hmmm and hmmm. Hmmm and hmmm. There's a fountain flowing hmmm and hmmm... Terp, who just HAD to (or was it three?). Hmmm.

  2. I want an inverted, launching, racing coaster with at least 6 loops, with four tunnels in the darkness of the woods....oh and it has to have 9 air time hills...is that asking for too much?....I know, I know....I can't have it cause I'd "shoot my eye out".

  3. ^I thought about that. Tear the house down , Tell the wife and kids we're sleeping in the station. Then I wondered what it would be like to be divorced.

  4. Last night I had a dream that I was riding some undefined roller coaster (similar to Python at Coney Island) while the New Year's Eve ball was dropping in Times Square in NYC which happened to be RIGHT NEXT to where the "coaster" was! 2015 is right around the corner...even in my dreams.

  5. When I was much, much younger (during the Water Works days)...I had a dream that there was a roller coaster over a pool where the coaster was like The Bat and the riders held onto gymnastic rings suspended from the cars chassis. As the roller coaster progressed its route, the weakest riders were flung into the water pools below. The remaining riders as the ride returned to the break run still holding on won a prize. I was always flung off the rings just before the breakrun...ending in a surprise wake up from falling...(no water or pee was involved...just the fright from falling.... )

  6. This wasn't specifically KI, but some undefined theme park. They had built a new wooden coaster and I was excited to ride it, but it turned out being pretty awful. Uncomfortably forceful. Then, I met Terpy, or I thought I did, maybe. I was with a group of KIC people, and I thought I recognized him from his picture, so I asked him. He replied in a way that sounded like an affirmation, but what he said could also be interpreted as a denial. Then he left before I could ask anything further.

  8. Why not sue the billboard company instead? Wouldn't there have been a contract involved? Sounds fishy to me, but at least it might be a good PR move. "We misled you on ticket prices last fall, but this makes up for it". Or, " We desperately need good PR, and advanced cash"

  9. The billboard company can't take them down? Joke or not, talk about something you wouldn't hear from current SIX or FUN marketing departments.

  10. Millennium Force. It is smooth, fun, and is re-rideable because it is not incredibly intense.

  11. Please don't get me a roller coaster for Christmas. I don't have room for it, and I don't want the liability. If I have to get a roller coaster for Christmas, give me Big Dipper at Geauga Lake. Holding "rights" to it "forever" as it sits on someone else's property seems like a pretty good deal. Just as long as I'm not the liable party if someone or something is harmed.

  12. As stated at the time, there were very good reasons a Tennessee park got rid of its very similar attraction. What's especially tragic here is a daughter was doing the course with her early 50's Dad on Christmas Eve as she wanted to spend Christmas with her boyfriend. Now, she gets to spend every day of the rest of her life playing the "What if" game. And she had to spend today dealing with the tragic, awful aftermath of a totally unexpected, unnecessary death--one that appears to have been in no way her fault. Needless to say, there WILL be a lawsuit. And no matter what the family recovers, it won't be enough. It won't be Dad, husband, brother, son. It will be cash. Good for nearly nothing at all in compensating for a loss like this. This industry deals with peoples' lives. Every day. If you are a ride op, a maintenance person, an inspector, a supervisor, a ride builder or designer, a general manager, a director, a regulator--never forget that. Safety is paramount. Safety first. Safety always. Safety all ways. It's not about money. It's about people.

  13. The only rides I've been on that I can think of that would come close to fitting in our yard and would be worth having would be Georgia Cyclone, Phoenix, or the original Coney Island Cyclone. Pretty sure some or all of the house would have to come down, though, haha. Those are all great rides, so I'll take any of them.

  14. I'd take the most twisted, air time filled GCI dueling coaster they could possibly create. Millennium Flyers, 90 degree banked turns, and not a single bit of straight track outside the brakes, station and lifts would be in order.

  17. I'm not certain the "we've been informed we might get sued for false advertisement, so here's your durned discount" method is really an effective "something different." Really, they couldn't have spun the extension as something magnanimous, they actually went with blaming the billboard company for forcing them to do it? Yes, it's better PR than a lot of what they've done so far, but it's not exactly good.

  19. The mobile store certainly looks much more modern than in previous years. The mobile site however leaves a lot to be desired. It's really sad that Holiday World's website uses modern design techniques that allows it to work fine on devices of all sizes, both desktop and mobile, without the need for a separate mobile site. A small park with a much smaller IT budget. Pathetic. Hopefully things will change for CF in the coming months.

  20. Supposedly about Wendy's and its breakfast retrenchment, this is one of the most insightful short business interviews I've ever seen, with major implications for all business, including the amusement business: http://mobile.bloomberg.com/video/why-did-wendy-s-quit-the-breakfast-wars-bhp0RH2gT2ivJk_BEymf~A.html

  25. Kudos to KK, getting the public before the dollar. This year....phew PR and KK seemed like two very different entities, but I am glad that now PR seems to be growing. People want to be a part of KK and want to invest, and KK needs that money. Sure, like what Home said, it is not ideal, but hey when it comes to PR-Guest relations, this is something that shows a sense of "Southern Hospitality". OR: The PR may just say that just to say that and want more people to buy with that in mind. Either way: Kudos to you KK

  28. Late 80s was my first trip to King's Island so some fo the stuff mentioned wasn't around at that point. But I remember the Smurf's ride, I loved riding it, was one fo my favorites. Was really sad to see it leave (though Phantom Theatre was one of my all time favorite rides there ever. So at least had a great replacement.) I also remember riding the handcar train things. Have some photos of me on it somewhere I'll have to try to find. Also miss The Beastie being The Beastie. I miss the haunted look and all the trees and stuff over by it. Plus was nice having a junior version of The Beast to ride until I was big enough to ride the real one. And I also greatly miss the vine tunnel as others have mentioned as well. That really needs to be brought back somewhere in the park. Also loved riding the Character Carousel. I also rode on Jabberjaw

  30. My first trip to Kings Island was in 1984 or 5. A few things that I remember that first year that are no longer around in Hanna-Barbera Land is The Smurf Ride of course, the elephant fountain, they also had these little robotic animals that had some kind of controls on them to change direction, they didn't work too well, McScrappys Farm, and an interactive fountain that I cannot find any pictures of. It is one of those pay a quarter and shoot water at the target kind of thing. This had Huckleberry Hound, and Quickdraw, Yogi and others. It was taken out when Splat City came in.

  31. Two things about that first location: --Undercooked and chicken. A VERY dangerous combination. No thank you. Ever. --Fire. The situation you described is a fire evacuation nightmare. I grew up in the state that had the Beverly Hills Supper Club fire. My next door neighbors died in it. All told, three dozen people from my home town, nearly all my parents' age, died. I had six friends who lost one or both parents when they were 15 or 16. Senior management of this restaurant company apparently tolerates both food prep issues, and, more seriously, life safety issues. There is no way they don't know. If they don't know, what a poorly run company it must be. I just crossed that company off my list of places I will patronize. Such apparent disregard is not something I want to subsidize.

  33. And these things are wonderfully fun when run properly. Didn't a park just get rid of their rope course? A coaster is is usually much safer than a ropes course....

  36. And to show you can't judge all of a particular manufacturer's rides on a particular ride--as much as I am not a fan of I-305 or Millennium Force, and I am not, my favorite steel is Maverick, but only in the front row. In the rest of the train, I think I'd prefer Millennium Force. And as great as Banshee, Afterburn, Apollo's Chariot, Nitro, Great Bear, etc., are, there's "Scream!" (Which made ME, the old silent rider, want to. Out of sheer disgust. See also X-Flight at Six Flags Great America, which I'd far prefer to see than ride.) Ride. Then decide.

  38. If this minimum rage increase passes through the desk of Greg Fischer with a signature I would be very surprised given his initial stance. But......based off his latest comments it appears he has backed away from the line in the sand and will let it pass. Consider me confused.

  39. Nah, that's OK. I'd prefer to look at a B&M coaster over an Intamin, at least that's my current preference. Gatekeeper and Banshee kinda won me over.

  40. The Diamondback splashdown kinda reminds me of the Red Sea in Exodus. I dreamt the seats on Banshee were 100% flexible rubber (like the restraint part that goes over one's torso), and we were flung around like yoyos. Fun and scary!

  41. I've heard that I-Street is on deck for an upgrade. Only rumors, but I think we all agree that the area could use a hug. What kind of "improvements" could or would be made is also intriguing to think about. a staff person to replace burnt-out light bulbs.

  42. Well I know that on one of my recent visits, I noticed some rotting wood on one of the facades of the buildings. It was the building right next to the I-Street Skyline. At one point in time it was the Coasters gift shop. Not sure what they have in there now. Count me in as the many who wish that the classical music would make a return to I-Street. I have heard that tree removal for quite some time as well. I`d be fine with select removal, but not a total removal. There is a lot of shaded eating areas on I-Street. The other area that could use an upgrade is Tower Gardens. This is (rather was) a very nice relaxing area of the park. It is now a large designated smoking area, which is a shame. The once flowing fountains in that area of the park look pathetic and as if they have not been cared for or touched in five to ten years. I could see that area getting a sprucing up as well. Heck, while we are at it, why not add a flat ride in back on the area that used to hold part of Salt Water Circus, where the Stars from Snoopy`s Starlight Spectacular used to reside. That stretch of the park always seems so empty,

  43. During my trip to Las Vegas back in 2002, I was impressed by the fountains at the Bellagio Hotel and the computerized show that they put on each night. The Fountains of Bellagio are one of the major draws on the Las Vegas Strip, along with the Pirate Show on the fountains in front of the Treasure Island Hotel. What about if Kings Island was to put on a show like the Fountains of Bellagio during the evening, with the water jets of the fountain being computerized, along with a great light show and be synced to a featured song? Something like the Fountains of Bellagio show with Andrea Bocolli and Sarah Brightman - Con Te Partiro (Time To Say Goodbye) being played in the background as the fountains put on a fantastic show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv82caMZaJA Also, during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the Park can put on a patriotic show like the Fountains of Bellagio did with Lee Greenwood's, God Bless the USA, decked out in red, white, and blue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUCid_dW_8o

  44. When I first started working for the Park during the Taft era back in 1972, they played French accordion and classical music on International Street. Each other themed area also featured their own unique music. River Town was country, HB had cartoon music, Coney Island (now Coney Mall) had ragtime music from the early 1900's, Oktoberfest had German.

  46. Some much needed notes before my long confusing/extreme dream... Notes: This is all one dream and it is VERY off the rails! Might be one of the weirdest dreams any of you have ever heard! The first half deals with KI but the second half not so much... Nothing in this dream reflects to me as a person. Like I would not follow a random stranger for starters... Last note, this is a rather lengthy dream, and it is not uncommon for me to have such crazy dreams... Please enjoy and ounce again anything said in this does NOT reflect me as a person! Also had this dream today. I went to KI one day when I didn't know/realize they were teasing a new ride. Well for their first tease you see a dress flapping back and forth. It got all KIC really excited. Then later that day I’m randomly in the Festhaus. Now Don is standing at a podium‚ spinning two dolls. (Like he was spinning his whole body is circles next he says‚ "anyone want to take a guess as to what are new ride will be called?" Then people go up on stage and start saying names. I never went on stage but I was thinking something like Dolly's and Daisy’s Spinny ride. After that I’m suddenly standing in a weird version of Chicken Shack. Well they had 3 different chicken strip thing options‚ one that was all in a box‚ one that was still frozen in a box‚ then some individual pieces of cooked chicken strips. Apparently I was hungry and I decided to eat 2 of the fully cooked chicken strips. It wasn't until afterwards I realized I didn't pay for it! So this time I get two fully cooked chicken strips then some dipping sauce. Well before I make it to the checkout‚ this dude in an EMT outfit‚ says the park needs my help with my roller coaster expertise... So I follow him out the door when suddenly he has someone pull the fire alarm ‚ after that two men in black suits step outside then we lock everyone else in! The man tells me to put on some sunglasses‚ which I do and then I hear fog machines making the whole path foggy. Well after that I see a bunch of people that have been rallied together and one person says "I think they need us to go defuse an explosive device"! (No longer in the park at this point) Now were all marching into the underground tunnel and there is tons of people! We also must dodge this high speed trains. Well we do so and then ounce I make it to the cave entrance ‚ I don't see anyone else with me except a kid that was scared and I said it would be alright. So now I’m in the Minecraft tunnel and I’m playing myself in a 3rd person perspective! So to start off I have to flip a switch to lower the spikes in front of me. Well flipped the switch and it lowers the spikes but then it also lowers the ceiling! So me and this scared kid have to run through this little maze thing. We do so successfully. Now we come to an opening again and we stop for a second then walk forward a little bit to get chased by a giant worm! So we speed through this as we try to avoid the worm when we suddenly have the option to be eaten by a worm or jump in a dark abyss. Ounce I started to fall my perspective of me changed again to me looking as a side scrolling game. When we finally reach bottom‚ we get eaten by the worm... Now though I randomly end of up above ground and see a post-apocalyptic world. (Now I am changed to seeing the world in first person) I also don’t have the scared little kid/friend with me anymore. So there is this big hill in front of me to climb and I start doing so‚ ounce I start doing so my two young little nephews start climbing it with me. Ounce we reach the top there is a command post in the distance so we run towards it‚ me thinking I will find that scared kid‚ but instead I change perspective again to me playing as myself in a video game! Inside this command post I see this nice dog person thing that says I must try this food (he said something I couldn't even pronounce). For some reason steak and eggs sounded really good but I came to believe I live in a world that don't have such thing. After that I woke up.
