The jobs open house scheduled for Saturday, February 21 at Kings Island has been cancelled due to the weather. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 28, from 5-9 p.m. at the park. Entertainment auditions have been rescheduled for Sunday, February 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.6 points

The only woodie in the CF chain I can think of that would be a good RMC conversion candidate is Mean Streak. Its pretty, but that is all it has going for it. It's not really a classic in my mind. It's fairly rough and not really all that thrilling/fun in my opinion. Have at that one boys but stay away from the others. There are others that need work (I am looking at you Hurler twins) but not conversions.6 points

I think SoB would have been perfect for the RMC treatment but it's gone. Not familiar with all the other Cedar Fair parks outside Cedar Point but think Mean Streak would be great too. None of the ones at KI should be touched though.5 points

Anytime a company is hired to build an attraction at a park, there is some sort of contract involved. Six Flags just bought RMC's in bulk, that's all, not unlike Cedar Fair and their dealings with B&M and Mondial. On topic- For these wooden conversions, I think it boils down to how each park and/or chain takes care of wooden coasters. Some are clearly better than others. A lot of it also has to do with how fads among the ride industry go as well as, above all else, the almighty dollar.5 points

I wish I would have seen that deal. I am planning on making a trip down there with a coaster buddy of mine this spring. It will be my first time there as well.5 points

Just imagine if Mean Streak went from this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPQ4AusAgqU ...To this: My enthusiast friend (rcoaster10) made this on NL2 and it's really awesome. With a little RMC love, mean Streak could seriously be one of the best coasters out there.4 points

The past does not predict the future. Especially when you're trying to look at the Kinzel era and use it to predict the Ouimet era.4 points

To those driving up, stay safe and leave plenty of travel time! It looks like most of Ohio will see snow tonight and through the day tomorrow. I had considered buying a ticket for the 8:30am tour and getting back to Columbus by early evening for my prior commitment. That would not have been a good idea with this forecast.4 points

You can't imagine why any place would want to change their classic wooden coasters, but you suggest Psycho Racer?4 points

What RCCA designed and what Paramount Parks, as its own general contractor, constructed were not one and the same. Think cost containment, for one thing...3 points

There are big differences between The Beast and any GCI. The Beast focuses on maintaining speed with big stretches of track, making for several big moments. GCI's are much more fast paced and erratic. They are always doing something sudden from the time they leave the lift hill. They design their woodies to have elements within elements. Even on what looks like a simple curve, there may be a sudden drop or changing of the banking angle during the curve which comes a surprise, making them a haven for air time. They're a much, much different animal than The Beast. Also, Millennium Flyers are, in my opinion, the best modern wooden coaster train running right now.3 points

^ It's still a go according to Tony Clark via Twitter. (https://twitter.com/tonyclarkcp) He said that a weather postponement would be announced by 5pm Thursday. It looks like northern Ohio will escape the worst of the snow. Hopefully those attending from elsewhere in Ohio are headed up this evening, ahead of the storm.3 points

And I am unaware of any problems Cedar Fair has had with GCI. They used them as recently as 2013 for a new wooden coaster. By all accounts, they are delighted with it.3 points

And how would you explain Dollywood adding Thunderhead? Have you ever ridden a GCI coaster? I have been on a few, and they are incredible rides with non stop fun all the way until the brakes at the end of the ride. And the trains are amazing!3 points

I know it is a bit hard to understand how the system works, but yes it automatically knows where you are sitting and adds those pictures to your Online Photopass album. From my understanding the way the systems picks up riders locations is that you have 2 RFID scanners across from each other that span the track of the ride creating a beam that you pass through. When you pass through it senses your RFID MagicBand and knows to add that picture to your account. Folks that are using the card system still have to swipe their cards at the off ride photo boards to get their pictures. Magic Bands eliminate that steps. The Magic Band system as a whole is awesome and worked flawlessly for us. We even had some of our pictures with Anna and Elsa not show up, I contacted the Memory Maker people and by the end of the day they had added them to our account. The crazy thing is Disney still has other enhancements to roll out with this system. It really is a game changer in the industry.3 points

I don't think I've ever seen this amount of one ride type, from a single company no less, added for a single season like these Larson Loops are this year.3 points

I'm sure the park has thought about this but hopefully they will have plenty of security. I can only imagine how crazy it would be with a bunch of teenagers in the park until 2 am...3 points

There's probably a list of things that prevented RMC from doing a Son of Beast refurbishment. One of the primary ones is, as you mentioned, the structure, not so much from sitting there, but rather by bad structure design. The heavy trains it used during its looping days didn't help much either. I did a paper on SOB a while back, and the forensic investigator who covered the 2006 accident even mentioned that the ride shouldn't have been opened...at all with the way Paramount and RCCA handled the project. There's a lot more, but I'd be writing a very long post.2 points

Six Flags is awesome to work with and they have kept us busy. They gave us our first break with the New Texas Giant and they continue to believe in RMC and our coasters. We will continue to work with them and other Non-Six Flags parks. They do not have an exclusive. I am happy with Kings Island's coaster line up and would cry if they changed them. Mean streak is ready for a change and if it could be done I could see Cedar Point pondering the idea. Bring back the Rotor!2 points

In fairness Dollywood was not the thrill ride player it is today before Thunderhead was installed. I can understand what Bansheeback is saying to an extent. The larger parks CP, CW, KD and KI all don't have GCIs. I don't really see why they can't have them these days. In the past I think there may have been concerns with capacity, but GCI has recently ventured into 3-train operation. The reason the other parks aren't receiving installs is because they "already have one." I've never really understood that sentiment though to be honest. There are many different things you can do with coaster track without coasters feeling the same... marketing maybe I don't know. I think parks think too short term as far as attractions on the park. They severely overrate a ride as being different vs being fun. Over 35 years out there are people are still going to KI to ride The Beast. Yeah they already had a wood coaster in The Racer but that's where the similarities between those two stop. If people have a good time they will come back and bring their friends.2 points

That's not a special contract. And Mantis is always capitalized here, when used as the name of a former Cedar Point ride.2 points

I don't think there is a reason for Kings Island to Iron Horse any of its wooden coasters. The Racer is the coaster that essentially brought back the coaster. It's an icon in Coney Mall and is a salute to Coney Island's old iconic Shooting Star, even using the original Shooting Star trains. It's a bumpy ride, however the park does have teams of carpenters, possibly from Great Coasters International (I may be wrong), come out and replace sections of track every so often. The Beast is the longest wooden coaster in the world, and uniquely placed in the parks back terrain instead of along the midway. There isn't a real need for giving either woodie a Rocky Mountain conversion, as they are both ACE landmarks.2 points

Ok, ok, maybe it'll happen. But is it the best fit for KI? How about something like a floorless coaster? I mean, we already have The Beast, even though its not a GCI.2 points

This has finally been fixed. I don't know what took so long for the change to be reviewed, but it is no longer listed as "permanently closed".2 points

I'm confused. How does the computer know whose account to add the pictures to? Do they have RFID sensors in every seat of the ride? What if someone is holding the arm with the MagicBand on it out across someone else's seat at the moment the computer attempts to sense the bands? I don't understand how this works.2 points

I'm more concerned about the greenhouse being moved out front...won't that harm the foot traffic flow? Unless they make it a gift shop of sorts.... "Buy plants grown here at Kings Island!"2 points

Both. Stretched as in too soon, things change, and stretched as in its not going to happen because Cedar Fair hasn't installed a GCI woodie in years. Huh?What is Gold Striker? What is Prowler? What is Renegade? Confused Terp2 points

A random memory popped into my head from SeaWorld Orlando involving the stingray petting pool....a guest picks up a stingray out of the water and drops the poor thing on the ground. Thankfully attendants got there in time to get the stingray back in the water where he belonged and guest was escorted out. Ugh...just another example of dumb people.2 points
