I knew one of the fellows on the construction crew when it was first built; he recently just died of cancer. He knew it was special, and when they were building, they talked about the fun they were going to have, like they were building it for themselves. There were so many things going at once, he told me, that as his crew would finish and go to clock out, they took time to see hat other things were being built. He recalled it as being a grand time in his life, and loved to see peoples' faces when they entered the park and took it allll in. His name was Harry Adler.7 points

A good thread to read for those wanting to know about a very historic John Miller wooden coaster at Geauga Lake Park that still awaits its fate.7 points

Here's a fantastic gallery of additional color photos from that day. You can see the wet pavement in a lot of the shots, a sign of the rain.http://holzsc.com/PKI72/index.htm In your link above it is interesting to see where Swan Lake used to be and thinking about the DB splashdown, where it is at now. Such cool pics!6 points

I still think that "leaked" dive coaster rumor from the Sandusky Register could be true. Whenever they've released unannounced park info before, it pretty much turns out to be accurate. But as whole, I'm going to say that it's for that midway expansion idea I've had for a few years. Cedars Dorms will also come down, Perimeter Rd will be rerouted, and a new midway will connect the Blue Streak midway from Calypso's current location to near the bleachers in Celebration Plaza. This is just one rough possible idea of what it could be. As you can see, having a whole multi year expansion in addition to the dive coaster is possible...I'm not the best at Photoshop and stuff like that but I inserted an image of Sheikra and it fits perfectly and still allows for plenty of room. The blue indicates the Perimeter Road reroute, the red indicates the new midway, you can obviously see the image of Sheikra and how it does not even interfere with Cadillac Cars and Raptor, and then the green areas indicate free space for future attractions. In the area formerly occupied by the dorms, I could see some type of out-and-back GCI or GG wooden coaster. Its station would be near the new midway merge by the bleachers, its lift hill would run parallel to the new midway, it would turn around in the strip of land between the midway and Perimeter Road (near Calypso's former location) and then will come back into the dorms area for a twister finale. I could see the new dive coaster's entrance plaza along with a few new shops/eating areas and seating in the small space by Raptor, to the right of where the new midway would connect to the Blue Streak midway. Then the other free space where the Goodtime Theatre used to be would be used for several new flat rides and another landscaped seating area.5 points

I voted B&M, because looking at a list of my favorite coasters, B&M made nearly all of them... Then looking at a list of Intamin coasters, I just now realized I've only ever been on 2 of them! Disaster Transport and Wilderness Run when I was a kid (at the time called Jr. Gemini.) It's not for lack of going to the parks, just bad timing and super long lines. Clearly, I have some work to do in order to have a fully formed opinion. Also, hi! I've been lurking on this site for a couple years now and I've learned SO MUCH about coasters from you guys and just general research. Since I tend to visit it several times a week now, I figured it was time to make an account.4 points

^I think the "lightsaber" look is fine for Fury 325, but it'd be very out of place on Diamondback. However, it pains me that the park has never invested in large floodlights to illuminate the coater's lift and drop similar to how Drop Tower is lit.4 points

When I was younger I got a huge thrill when Woodstock Express was The Beastie. I also remember that I used to close my eyes in the tunnel after the first drop, man those were the days.3 points

Yes, they are. Carnivals are both a huge draw and a huge revenue source for fairs and festivals. Even sites with permanent rides bring in midway operator(s). Those that do not have seen precipitous drops in revenue and attendance. Why come to the fair to ride what's there all season long?3 points

I wish it could reopen as a small family park, similar to Waldameer, which seems to be doing better than ever. But I doubt it'll ever happen because Cedar Point is so close, I HIGHLY doubt they'd want to make any investment, and there's no way they'll let the future buyer do that. It's such a shame. I lived in that town for a while in its early Six Flags days and had a season pass. I've been back to visit that area and it's just so sad. Geauga Lake's closure just seemed to zap the life out of that community. I realize companies have to look at profits but they left that area a complete mess and that's just wrong. I wonder- if someone bought it from Cedar Fair, then sold it again a couple years down the road, would the sale restriction preventing them from making it an amusement park again still hold up? Can they really specify rules for every subsequent buyer in the future? Wishful thinking, of course, but I'm curious...3 points

Ride_on 17, that midway connection would make sense, and allow Blue Streak to get more foot traffic, as it would no longer be on a dead end midway. I still think that if they introduce a dark ride at Cedar Point, they may try to use the former pirate ride building next to Blue Streak for part of the experience.3 points

Wow! Those green lights on the station and lift look absolutely amazing! I really like the architecture and feel of the station. I only wish that I would have the time to get down to Carowinds this year to check out this ride in person. Unfortunately, I likely will not have the time to get down there, as I already have a big west coast trip planned to Disneyland and another Cedar Fair park out in California as part of my honeymoon.3 points

I am in the older generation I guess and the Diamondback thread in 2009 is what got me into being a true enthusiast and being really interested in the industry. I can not seem to find the thread in the search for some reason, but that thread was so long and was so much fun as we watched DB being built slowly each day! I made so many friends on here and at the park from it.3 points

I'd like to see a B&M hyper that goes beyond 90 degrees. I think that beyond 90 degree drops are under-utilized and quite thrilling.2 points

The problem I have with dive coasters (I have been on both dive coasters as Busch Gardens` parks), is that after the first drop, there typically isn`t much to them. Although, I will admit, sitting on the far ends with no track above or below you is quite a thrill. You are more removed from the track then on the wingriders.2 points

At first I thought you were referring to Diamondback's season pass preview day. The ride was meant to open on April 17, 2009 to season pass holders, but instead that event was cancelled and early morning ride time was added instead (which, for the record, was a much better idea)2 points

Seeing those hideous dorms come down would be great for the park. However being an employee, I know for a fact that there is not enough off point housing yet. Because during peak employment times both off and on point housing is full.2 points

That reminds me. When I was a kid, it was really cool how the park came alive after dark, with the different lighting packages. Then I didn't really go to the park for over a decade, and new rides were added. This past summer, my first summer back, I usually got to the park at opening and stayed to late afternoon at the latest. After several visits I finally was going to stay late and was really excited to see what my new favorite steel coaster (Diamondback) looked like after dark. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Although the beauty of WindSeeker after dark more than makes up for it. The light saber lift hill is the first thing that's made me really want to go ride Fury325.2 points

I haven't been here long enough to really be part of any of the big discussions such as the Decode 2014 thread. So I guess my favorite would be the "New Haunt Attraction Near The Beast" thread. This would be for several reasons: - It was the very first thread I started here (under my previous handle DTK1376 before it got deleted mysteriously) - It being my first thread, ended up being 11 pages long of good dialogue for the most part - And the moment I posted I was told how crazy I was to be posting something from Screamscape like it was a foregone conclusion it wasn't happening so it shouldn't be discussed, so I had a bit of vindication with that lol http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/29490-new-haunt-attraction-near-the-beast-this-year/2 points

Also don't forget that "Kings Island 2014 Coaster" trended on Yahoo. If you clicked on it, it went to the Decoding 2014 thread.2 points

I would agree on Starting to Decode 2014. I had been on the site a few years by then (joined in Spring 2009) as that one was RIDICULOUSLY huge. It was a time when you visited KIC, and then came back 5 minutes later and that thread had 20+ new posts already it seemed. So much came out of that one thread. Honorable Mentions from my time here on KIC would be... -The various Son of Beast threads...however not one really sticks out since there were several of them, which kind of hurt their chances. -TOPGUN1993's countdown to opening day threads with the retro KI pictures. Any of them. These were awesome. -The standing within 3' of 1974 (or something like that) thread...yeah, I really enjoy looking at pictures of Kings Island from before my first visit in 2000 (also 2001-2008 since I never visited during those years either) -The Banshee construction thread. In a sense, this was the sequel to "Decoding 2014"...2 points

Like so many others, Starting to Decode 2014. Not only was it very entertaining and at times simply crazy, but it was what first brought me to KIC.2 points

I haven't officially made a decision on my favorite KIC thread, but I must say that the Decoding 2014 thread was definitely one to remember. I remember having to catch up a few pages (anywhere from 3-5) every time I got on the computer. Good times!2 points

Yea, I'd have to say the Starting to Decode 2014 thread, also. Never posted then, but it was good reading.2 points
