  1. Kings Island will be hosting a sneak preview of the new iteration of Cirque Imagine on May 22nd at 7:00p that will be open to Gold and Platinum Season Pass holders. You must reserve your tickets through the Season Pass Portal in order to attend. There will be an email blast sent out in the near future and the park expects the tickets to go extremely quickly, but they wanted the fine folks in the KIC Universe to know first. Go now! Get your tickets! Don't have a season pass yet? What are you waiting for? Purchase today before Gold goes away!

  6. Alright ladies and gentlemen. It's officially Opening Week. April 18th is THIS SATURDAY!!! It's almost here! Just 5 more days to go until Opening Day at Kings Island. But I don't wanna wait 5 more days. Just like it says below. AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!! (I kid, I kid lol. Just thought it would be funny.)

  7. For a daily driver car, it really depends on where you live. More importantly, it's a TOTAL personal choice and how you view driving. In a city with 'real' traffic (like my commute in Houston) give me an automatic every day of the week. But even then, it was worth having the manual in that traffic for the non-commute drives when I could hit the back roads to get to where I was going. Now that I live in a city with more tame traffic. I do miss my manual (from the ages of 16 to 35, I never owned an auto). I enjoy driving, I like to take drives on the back roads. For this, a manual is almost a necessity for me. As for automatics giving he capability of 'manual' shifting - it's just not the same. The lag is too much to deal with, you can't skip a gear etc. Downshifting from 5 to 3 while adding revs to smoothly enter a corner and have the torque to accelerate out...just can't happen in an auto.

  8. From what I remember of the Sky Ride, standing in queues for 30-40 minutes is missing from your scenario's timeline. Every time I think I'd like to have it back as a shortcut across the park, I remember that. I would like it back for its views and thrill, though.

  9. Screemin' Demon...but for purely selfish reasons. I never rode that one and always had to wait for my mom and brother while they rode...then it was removed. Every other ride that I had to sit and wait for them (that I remember anyway), I've since ridden (for some of them, many many many times over). I honestly don't remember why I never rode it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a height issue, as I rode the original bat, and I rode Vortex opening on its season. I never rode Son of Beast, but wish I could have. It doesn't have the 'sat and waited' component, though lol. I never rode, or don't remember riding, some of the others. I don't avoid flat rides, but they're not really my thing, so I don't 'miss' them when they're removed or shut down for repair. I do wish something like Sky Ride would make a comeback so visitors could get from one side of the park to the other without *having* to walk it. Some summer afternoon/evening you may be getting off of Vortex and would like to find a place to sit and relax for a few minutes and the youngest wants to ride Woodstock Express. BAM! Get on a gondola, relax, take in a view and keep the youngest quiet because you're on the way to Woodstock Express. Win Win Win.

  10. Ahh..my biggest point of driving shame was shifting someone's car into second gear without engaging the clutch. That ended my lesson quite quickly. I can see why folks opt for automatic. Yes, the driver has greater control over the vehicle. But there are deteriants for some. As much as he loved manual transmissions, he was looking to buy an automatic for his next car. Certain medical treatments ravaged muscles that made it painful at times to drive in the city.

  11. That would be some really expensive teasing. Have you any idea how much even the raw material costs? Steel isn't cheap. Per this site, it would seem that steel is going for $295/metric ton. Let's use round numbers and say your teaser track section weighs 40 metric tons, or 44.09 "short tons" (U.S. units), and that it's a rate of $300/metric ton. 40 metric ton * ($300 / metric ton) = $12,000 Plus paint, labor, etc.. While I'm sure you're suggesting it because it'd be really cool (for them), it's probably not gonna happen. Of course i was serious (sarcasm flag flying).

  12. I should probably clarify for those who don't know. The Kroger Co. has largely chosen to expand into new markets by acquiring regional grocery chains, keeping their own unique identity as a division thereof, as well as branding while integrating a lot of product selection, store design, marketing, etc. Kansas has Dillons. California has Ralphs. Fry's Food and Drug is another such division of The Kroger Co. While founded in California, it seems as though they operate solely in Arizona at this point in time. Imagine walking into a store that, at least on the inside, looks just like your standard Kroger.. Except you keep seeing this logo and hearing these announcement mentioning Fry's. Trippy.

  14. Don't think too hard about seeking any copyright permissions. A membership to ASCAP and/or BMI is very well within CF's budget. Those two should cover them for any 'public performance' of just about any recorded music (I'm sure there are outliers). They probably need such a license for some of the shows (assuming they're covering recorded music in any of them). I miss 'themed' music in the park. Even if it was movie soundtrack stuff in the PKI days, it had a theme that wasn't "here's a ton of stuff you've heard on the radio over the last 20 years." Maybe it's nostalgia, but I do miss the pre-PKI music around the fountains. Hearing Saber Dance, in particular, brings back memories of the park as a kid.

  17. There also have been recent changes in the copyright law that lessen strictures on small venues playing the radio, recorded music over a single speaker or televisions. Not just music but also sports games, newscasts, television shows, radio news--all require licensing unless otherwise exempt. Ask Camden Park. Or don't. The place nearly closed some years back over music copyright licensing evasion. 19. In 2013 (I only went once) and 2014 (ten times), The Beast was very smooth. The only rough part happened when I was in the middle of the train, in the middle car, on the "outside" seat and the lap bar and stomach got into a tumble. Granted, I can only ride in the back a few times each day, but it is a very enjoyable ride. My other favorite coaster, Diamondback, seemed a little rougher than previous year, as far as roughness could be imagined on this ride. The only jar was from the very back seat, but the experience was soooo worth it. The ride ops were outstanding in 2014 on The Beast, especially on Sundays in October. Could not have asked for better effciency or hosts/hostesses.

  24. Hey! This is my first time on KIC, but i have been to KI a few times in the past. I will be attending opening day this saturday and i was just wondering if you have any insights in to crowd size and best way to navigate through the park. I have a Platinum Pass as well as i noticed there is a preview night on friday, but since by pass was bought/renewed at CP, i assume i won't be able to get in. Thanks!

  25. First we receive a new set of Flying Scooters..... ....Next we get a "new" set of Antique Cars...... Hey! Not a bad idea BB1 ! .....On a related note..... I couldn't necessarily say that it would hurt my feelings to see BLSC removed to make way for a set of Antique Cars.......Yes, I'm serious......

  30. Welcome! If your Kings Island gold or Cedar Fair platinum pass was renewed (i.e. you had a 2014 pass and renewed it online or at a Cedar Fair park) on/before November 6, you are eligible for the preview night this Friday. Your pass might not scan if it's from another Cedar Fair park, but Guest Services can let you in after verifying your on-time renewal. Crowd size is difficult to anticipate. The park is likely to be busy if the current forecast of mid 60s under sunny skies holds. If lines for major attractions like The Beast and Diamondback are long, try rides that might be have shorter wait times. Adventure Express, Vortex and even Banshee are good things to ride even on crowded days. Also, the park is spelled "Kings Island" with no apostrophe; people are quite picky about that here. (Even the Cincinnati Enquirer gets that wrong, so don't feel too bad. )

  32. I think my best The Beast experience was during Haunt in 2010. The park closed at 0100, my friend and I went to the que line just a few minutes before that. We rode, and the last train of the night had 3 or 4 folks on it and the ride ops let us ride again. When we returned to the station, someone had taken my friends backpack from the stowage box. The ride op gave him a description, so he took off. I walked from The Beast to the front gate alone...in the fog...with the various Haunt music playing, while they were cycling Diamondback (strange to hear with no screams) and various other attractions. Just a very surreal experience. My friend did find the people who had his backpack, who claimed it was a "mistake."

  33. My first and only trip to Disney World, we went in March so of course it rained almost the whole time. Being 10, I didn't care, I liked rain and it didn't bother me. When it was seriously pouring and there was a lot of lightning, I went on Haunted Mansion 20-something times. Kept having power outages and the ride would go out and be completely dark and stop for a 30 seconds to a minute, then start back up. It was pretty cool. Added an extra dimension of scariness!

  35. Dont forget the idea of pushing in the clutch to let the car "coast" through a corner or down a hill. The only way to do that is to throw it in neutral which I wouldnt highly recommend to anyone. I drove in Chicago traffic with a manual. It was horrible. But living in Cincy, and the occasional drive to other cities, I love the manual transmission.

  37. Or not: * Continued capital investment. * Value. Integrated branding and messaging. * Product selection and facilities tailored for the market. * Superb management. * Driving stock value by driving customer value, including with perhaps the Nation's best loyalty program. I guess you ARE right. This is completely divergent from the topic of Kentucky Kingdom.

  38. Indeed I do have a roll of Kroger-branded aluminum foil acquired from Fry's somewhere around here.. I have no idea how they choose which products to use the unified Kroger brand (such as the foil) versus the regional chain's brand (such as water bottles). There must be some logic there. Stores of The Kroger Co. and its subsidiaries, just like competitors such as Meijer and Walmart (formerly known as Wal-Mart), do also vary in size based on market size. Some markets do not justify more than a small store, while others receive massive "super centers". For its part, Kroger seems to be venturing more and more into larger stores over time. Take, for example, a store in town that started off in a small building attached to a K-Mart. They outgrew it and built a new building right across the parking lot. Well, apparently even that was no longer enough as they tore down the (former) K-Mart and what had become a Big Lots to build an even bigger store. The two new stores, built from the ground up, were completed within the past 10-15 years. Granted, they did close down a second store in a strip mall in a neighboring town, so maybe they wanted to combine the two. But, alas, this is all completely divergent from the topic of Kentucky Kingdom.

  40. It would be covered already by existing licensing. The effort is pretty much checking the publishers' database of "covered" songs and member artists before deciding to add a song to your rotation. One doesn't have to directly request permission every time a new song comes out. The permission is inherent in the license (provided it covers the new song and/or the artist, and that it is paid-up).
    3 points
  41. Music licensing is much easier than that. It's mostly a matter of just paying. And paying. And paying. And then playing.

  42. We had a blast. We purchased a Q-Bot and found it very convienent. I did the SkyZip and really loved it. Thunderhead was the best ride there, with Mystery Mine a close second. I also found the Lumberjack Lifts to be whimsical. The staff was very friendly and Dollywood as a whole gave off a charm that I had only felt at Holiday World. The bad thing about the area is the unbelievable amount of traffic. It took two hours to get from Sevierville to Pigeon Forge. I type this as we are sitting in the Kentucky traffic, bumper to bumper, trying to find our way back to Indiana by midnight.

  44. Tip for riding Beast or Racer- ride in the 2nd row of each 3 row car. You're not directly above a wheel housing, thus you'll get less of the jolt when the wheels bang against the track. The exception, for me anyways, is the front seat, though I've also found row 2-1 enjoyable on Beast.
