What people fail to realize, is that just like your Kroger card, Fun perks lets the park analyze trends among its pass holders and what they are buying. This helps them tailor not only the perks offered, but can help with staffing. If the I-Street LaRosa`s is busier than Rivertown at 3pm on Tuesdays, then it might make sense to staff the I Street one with an extra employee. Another thing it could do is allow them to have dynamic pricing. Much like the Reds just announced, where the cost of tickets will depend on the opponent and expected crowd. Since many of the park`s food stands now have video menu boards, they can change the pricing (in theory) to adjust for days when it is less busy or for when it is cold out and people are less likely to buy ice cream, for example.

I want to say that the name of it was "Coney Cafeteria" or something with the name of Coney in it. I believe it was renovated after Paramount took over, and was briefly called Tucker`s before getting the Happy Days Diner treatment, which only lasted a few seasons until Cedar Fair took over and renamed it Jukebox Diner.

Well, in 2009 when Diamondback opened, I rode it twice that day, once during the day once at night. But I had the lucky honor of getting to ride it on the media preview day a few days prior to the park opening. Then there was an opening day in the 2000s somewhere, where the park closed at 12pm because it was snowing and practically nobody showed up. I still remember, and miss, when they used to have the season pass sneak preview days. That was always a sure sign that spring was on the way. Sadly, they haven`t done those in years.

One of these years, I`m going to get out to Knott`s. I also would like to visit the Cedar Fair park up in Canada. I`ll get to those parks eventually. I would love to see a trip report from those parks!

A mis-spelling that has been up there for quite some time, too.

Maybe they got a better sponsorship deal from this company. I do find it a little odd that the show will be dark on Tuesdays. Granted, most live shows are dark one day a week to give the cast and crew a day off. I wonder when Kings Island will reveal its 2013 live shows lineup. I still am longing for the day that the clown band makes its regular return to the park. Live entertainment like that adds so much to the atmosphere of the park.

Cedar Fair Job Posting
CoastersRZ replied to jzarley's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
That is very interesting indeed. I know that Linkedin is quickly becoming the best way to find available job openings in this day and age. -
That would be the Flying Dutchman. The ride was relocated to Kentucky Kingdom after being removed from Kings Island.

Gov. Kaisich Proposes Admission Tax
CoastersRZ replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I also would like to point out that in addition to the already stated admissions tax to amusement park, this sales tax would apply to services as well. It specifically lists architectural services rendered by architects and architecture firms. That will have a direct impact on me if it forces people to take their business outside the state of Ohio. I work full time at an architecture firm in downtown Cincinnati. -
Kings Island will always stay with Cedar Fair?
CoastersRZ replied to Sonofbeast2.0's topic in KI Polls
But remember, that the value in owning a park is not just the value of the park. It is also in the money that the park can generate for the company. -
Nope, I would do the same thing all over again. I got to work my Eli Bridge Ferris Wheel that day, with a person that I am still great friends with to this day, even though he last worked at Coney back in 2009. I`m getting ready to start my 12th season at Coney. Going to start the hiring process here in about a month. (Anyone that would be interested in working at Coney, fill out an application on Coney`s website at www.coneyislandpark.com). Its hard to believe how quickly time flies. It seems like just yesterday I was starting work at Coney.

Heck, even the KIC event that we had back in 2008 required a cost. I too miss Ride Warrior Coaster Weekend at Kings Island, and only participated in the first of the two days, due to school requirements. (I was also silly and left the park for a few hours for an afternoon shift at Coney before returning to Kings Island to ride Diamondback until 1am).

Como Cruisers opens at Coney in 2013
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
Exactly. And the canoes and pedal boats both embark from the same dock down near Moonlite Gardens. Most days, there is one employee staffing both pedal boats and the canoes. -
You unfortunately do not see elaborate light up signs like that anymore. In fact, at one point in time, the signs for just about every ride in Coney Mall (Racer, Monster, Scrambler, Dodgems, Vortex all used to have lights around their entrance signs. Excellent picture, Paul. I have not seen that one before!

Como Cruisers opens at Coney in 2013
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
I don`t know exactly how it will be set up yet. These will surely be an improvement over Bumper Boats. While the Bumper Boats were fun, they were a constant headache in terms of maintenance. They were always shutting off or the throttles were breaking on them. Maintenance was always down there switching out the engines with freshly rehabbed ones from their shop. Bumper Boats did open at Coney in 1989, so it had been there for a while. Always nice to see Coney investing money in the park! -
Coney Island is adding a new ride. Como Cruisers is debuting on the shores of historic Lake Como. Kids can take the helm of motor boats on Lake Como on this new ride. Guests under 42" must be accompanied by an adult. The ride replaces the Bumper Boats on Lake Como. As best I can tell, the ride is similar to a boat ride that can be found at the Legoland parks. See Coney`s website here for more information: http://www.coneyislandpark.com/classic_rides.php Coney officially opens for the season on Memorial Day weekend, May 25th, 2013.

The problem would be where do you draw the line. What happens when a storm rolls through and the rides have to shut down for thirty minutes due to weather in the area? Do you give everyone a free one time use fastpass? On busy Saturdays, there can be a lot of people in lines, and the logistics of the thing do not just work out.

Another cool photo Paul! A few things to note in it. Notice that the stand that now sells blue icecream is not there. Also, the only rides in this picture that are still at the park is Woodstock Express, and one of the two Hampton umbrella car rides. I also believe the kiddy whip is under the blue tent structure. Also, the Skyride station is now used as a merchandise shop. Keep the great photos coming, Paul!

Beating the Winter Blues : Knotts Berry Farm 1/28
CoastersRZ replied to tjpavlik's topic in Trip Reports
Indeed. I had a VERY poor experience there this past year, which resulted in me waiting outside the gates for thirty minutes when they tried to figure out an issue with my pass. I was not pleased at all (even writing them a letter to voice my displeasure). It will be quite some time before I return to that park. Even with the glasses policy, I still want to visit Knott`s and its neighbor down the road, Disneyland! -
Beating the Winter Blues : Knotts Berry Farm 1/28
CoastersRZ replied to tjpavlik's topic in Trip Reports
So why is Knott`s so strict with their glasses policy? I could see if it was a State thing or a company wide Cedar Fair thing, but it isn`t either of those. Does someone who works at Knotts have a fear about glasses coming off on a ride and injuring someone? I still find it puzzling. On Nighthawk at Carowinds, they made me take off my glasses, even with an athletic strap. Every other ride there permitted me to wear my glasses. I hope to one day get out to Knott`s. I don`t like not wearing my glasses because I can`t read anything and it gives me a headache. (And contacts are not an option either, given my past eye health issues). -
Its amazing how much the trees filled in over a period of twenty years! I still miss the peacefulness of all those trees in the center of the park. Of course the biggest travesty is that we also lost our Flying Eagles ride the season that Backlot opened.

I would agree with those words. I was summoned to Jury duty back at the end of November, and I went into it wishing my name had not been selected. But getting placed on a jury and witnessing the judicial process at work was eye opening. I would recommend people serve on jury duty and not try to dodge it. I certainly had a fun time on it, and would gladly serve again if my name is selected.

Well, if you are going to call Rivertown a concrete jungle, there is not much actual concrete in it. It is more of an asphalt jungle than concrete. Just saying.
-
Well, the water tower removal would not necessarily result in them needing to put a fence around it. They can quite easily just remove the water tower columns and infill that area with fresh concrete for this season.
