The Beach Closing after 27 Years
westcoaster replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Voted BEST privately owned waterpark in the country by Aquatics International 2010! Judge's comment: "The park has all the bells and whistles that waterpark visitors hope to find." The Beach Waterpark continues to be one of the premier travel destinations in the Midwest. Whether guests seek thrilling water slides or a relaxing tropical island experience The Beach Waterpark offers something for every age and interest. The Beach Waterpark is located in Mason, Ohio, 25 minutes north of Cincinnati or south of Dayton off of I-71. As a tropical themed adventure for the whole family and the largest stand alone waterpark in Ohio, The Beach is situated on 35 acres of rolling wooded terrain that provides lots of shade and lush ambiance. Real live palm trees, Real white ocean sand, Real waterfalls and crashing waves help set the scene. Live Surf Rock, Salsa and Reggae music reinforce the tropical island experience. -

The Beach Closing after 27 Years
westcoaster replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Sounds like a save the Beach campaign. I sure hope someone step forwards, they could run a monorail from KI Soak City to the Beach!!! ha pipeline dream. Yes its interesting now coney and Ki are the only surviving outdoor parks, and funny that KI built everything like sand volleyball the year of the beach closing. Sometimes families that go once or twice a year somewhere don't have the money for a KI type place, the beach was a great alternative. I will not disagree that new attractions /expansions/ may have helped. But my opinion for what its worth is COCO KEY, and the much larger Great wolf mason/Kings Island contributed to this down fall to some degrees, they are new refreshed parks, I love Great Wolf, and yes even coco key has some limited day passes. Plus Great wolf some patrons bring there own cold cuts run to Mcdonalds, speedway for a bit less of a meal. Really if you get a nice hotel room at Great wolf and one big meal you can really enjoy the place with year round 365 days comfort. Oh well RIP for now the beach please hopefully it does not turn out like Surf cincinnati. Don Helbig and Cedar Fair KI staff , some how try to save the experience over there, Ki always wanted a 2nd charged gate???/ Bring it up to Cedar Fair standards, and it could be a win win..... Who knows what will happen but we do know Cincinnati/Miami Valley lost something today from the beach winter thing that was lost already, to a park, dive in movies, real sand a catch theme song, a good name low prices. If someone did buy it to operate it add some attractions make the place something like a blizzard beach from disney (of course with out the characters). Good luck to the Beach, thanks for the memories: -
Any luck anyone for a 1977 addition? ha ha, These are great , historical parts of a historic park...... Thanks for sharing: What will the park be in 40 years?

Need personal stories for 40th Anniversary article
westcoaster replied to alluna's topic in Kings Island
3-7-2012: August 25th 2009 a Tuesday, one of my best and greatest birthday’s ever I would be 32 years of age, and yes enjoyed every minute of the day at the Mid-West Sensational, Super, Duper, Wonderful Park that is Kings Island in Mason Ohio south of Dayton north of Cincinnati. My incredible teammates from a 13 year career at a large airline that came to an end in March of the same year decided to throw a great day for me at Kings Island followed by an incredible dinner at Max and Erma’s in Kenwood south of the big park. The day was great, spent with Amber, Grisel, Dutle, a Moxley and two pilot friends. The day was just some adult fun, incredible amazing wonderful assortment of ride’s, probably the best Larosas pizza out of all the places to get the one of kind Cincinnati Pizza of course no one knows why Kings Island Larosas is the best either. We hit Boomerang Bay, the new Diamondback, The Beast, we had a whole day to ride, laugh, talk, eat some munchies, take in rays at one of the best seasonal parks in the whole nation in the grand land we call the United States of America. Really I think we rode the Scooby doo and the haunted castle just to see who could get the top score. We rode and rode, and memories were made for my own birthday, but some of us still each other and or stay in touch even recommending one another for jobs, and checking in on kids, and family members. What better way to take in a birthday but at Kings Island the great park , to live like there was no tomorrow. This birthday will always be with me, as a great day. Of course Kings Island this was one memory, I’ve been there with family, friends, girlfriends, my lovely rollercoaster partner of life SWEETPEA my wife , my own boys have taken in the park on many occasions even one year being Cedar Fair VIP’S even sporting the black jackets that came with our season passes. Many hours, days, water park trips, thrills, chills, WINTER FEST, Haunt Nights, and the list goes on. Of course this is the story of a thrill seeker, a Dad, Friend, Love Kings Island, but the whole Amusement industry across the globe. Memories of your first Coaster, your first FERRIS WHEEL, the first shouts on a PIRATE SHIP, eating some blue ice cream, taking in the day like there is no tomorrow. Luckily for my own memories this Birthday a few years ago will never be forgotten, to many more memories at Kings Island, the great Cedar Fair chain, even Disney oh my. What is around the next corner is anybody’s guess, today is the present making the most of it building friendships, bonds, and those ever precious memories. To many more happy years at Kings Island, who knows what the Park will look like in the next 40 years. Happy Birthday in 2009 to my own great day brought to you by the letter F for friendship. To a big 40th to a world class one of a kind park Kings Island. WESTCOASTER -
Thanks for the monorail information, of course but I think the zoo had an article that it was a possibilty to build a attraction north near Kings Island. Of course with the world class and ever growing Colombous zoo and fun parks, golf courses I doubt it. Time will tell,

Okay this is crazy hope I was not dreaming, I do know north of Cincinnati zoo near Kings Island the Zoo has plenty of land, donated some by marge schott ( the first woman to own not only the reds but a baseball team) Yeh! God love her for her Zoo donations. Well my question I thought the cincinnati news agenicies released pictures and or an article about the zoo building a safari / tram type ride.

My question does anyone remember this?

Is the land near Kings Island?

Just a wondering:

Have a great day:

Loved the early year hours too always till 11pm, gave you more time in the evening, plus the mention of the enchated voyage again! What a ride of some sort and shape should come back maybe the clue would be the big empty shell of a building in River town!

Great post, has anyone got or seen a 1977 brochure? By chance thanks: Keep up those memories, what a find.

Someone is restoring a whip car
westcoaster replied to rotag's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
They still build new ones? Wow, and yes I'm sure law-suits hurt them all. -
Just hope they don't mortgage all of Holiday world, of course with this said they are knocking out any competion with Holiday world. They will have lots of work to do but with work money and cleaniness and great staff, they will win and succeed. Should be interesting for sure. Hope they keep the kids land maybe they could license a couple of Hannah barbera characters? Or come up with their own of course this option being a lot cheaper! Blizzard river could be a highly themed tube ride, My boys loved that ride, as pingeons layer even better than Kings Island version. Plus they had some great slides in the water park. And the wooden coaster is great.

Someone is restoring a whip car
westcoaster replied to rotag's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This is a cool project indeed, Way to go. I loved the Whip at Lesourdville Lake/Americana, rode it so many times. Wish Kings Island even coney or strickers had an adult Whip. The kids whip in KI, and I think stricker has one,is so cool, both my boys rode the one at KI all the time. This would be a great ride to bring back from the grave, rengineered in todays methods. (maybe with the new disney patent concept Wow). Great ride, Good luck to all of your work on the projcet! -
Music in the mud? Not with this Grass
westcoaster replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
Riverbend @ Coney, is a special concert venue, one of the best in the nations (besides flooding), I've watched a few great concerts there. Its neat they are the first amphitheatre to do the artificial grass. We shall see how it holds out. Good for Riverbend. -
Nashville: new theme park?
westcoaster replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
So true it did prevent the Northern Kentucky park to be built at the I75 I 71 split south of Florence. Kings Island won out, and should for any account be the major player witht the other 2 major (MAJOR) players being cedar to the north and dollywood to the south. Time will tell about the Nashville park but it looks themed, from the rides, to a great plan so far. Nashville seems to be in the news all the time now. -
40th Anniversary...how about a History of KI area?
westcoaster replied to RD Reynolds's topic in Kings Island
Yes that is what is so cool, about disney or Cedar Point the history area. Kings Island needs one starting with why they moved from Coney to current day. Some of the old rides, rides that made history. -
Nashville: new theme park?
westcoaster replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well we hope never would Kings Island start sliding remember they do draw so many people in the top 10 every year for Seasonal parks. But I do think the KI park could use a KI VILLAGE out front open to anyone, (as many people they draw). With shoppes and restraunts. I know the new boss said no resorts right now but camp ground highly themed and well laid out for tents campers and families would be great. KI crowd would not go south but it is getting extremely tight in the LOUISVILLE/SANTA CLAUSE/NASHVILLE/BOWLING GREEN MARKETS: Who will be the soul or soul suvivors just quite possible the one with 2 parks already, and for sure DoLLYWOODS water park in Nashville. I don't know if Tennessee can handle 2 huge attractions like Dolly wood/ and now Ole south: Time shall tell: -
What do you miss the most about Kings Island this off season?
westcoaster replied to 16gwoods's topic in KI Polls
The Beast, and the general atmosphere of the park! Would love the park to have some midnight closings during the summer too: -
Nashville: new theme park?
westcoaster replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Nashville is interesting for sure. Great area, but so close to louisville and the zoo with the new blue grass boardwalk, the bowling green where Beech Bend ever grows, and then in Nashville you have 2 water parks I think and the new dolly project, then in Santa clause you have Holiday world. Wow this will be interesting, great web site thus far too. Hope it happens, as long as it does not knock out the competition in the industry. Love amusement parks. http://olesouthusa.com/ This was another guy that also worked for Disney: WOW! -
wow great logo, 40 years, and its really great, they put some thought into it.

Great ride when it worked, just hope Ki/Cedar Fair puts the building and surrounding area to great use.
