  1. I was reading an article today from the FUNWORLD Magazine about Intamin and Intaride LLC and found something very interesting. It says toward the middle of the article that, "Intamin also introduced the magnetic brake system more than 10 years ago and holds the patents on magnetic brakes for amusement rides. Prior to magnetic brakes, coasters used mechanical brakes, and engineers had to use the track to burn up all the energy the train gained from the lift hill before it hit the brakes. With magnetic brakes, coasters can go higher and faster, and hit the brakes at a higher speed without causing damage. As an example, the trains on “Millennium Force” enter their magnetic brake run at 57 mph." Here is the link to the article if anyone wants to read it. The paragraph containing the above mention information is next to the second picture of Wicked Twister. http://www.funworldmagazine.com/2006/aug/f...oasterconn.html
  2. Nope, I'll be working on Beast so it doesnt really matter to me how the lines are.
  3. ^ Not to contradict you at all Picard, but just because donniejb said he is "poor" and doesnt have the money for gas for either doesnt mean he will not have the money for said truck and rv come this RV season. I maybe stating the obvious here, but it's the off season for campers right now just as it is the off season of KI right now. It's cold outside (not so much the past few days and today) but donniejb may be using the "gas money" to pay the heating bill for his home. Once it warms up outside, he could use that money for gas.
  4. Quick question mutedarkness if you know, was X-flight open for opening day of Geauga Lake (Six Flags then) or did it have a later opening date like Firehawk? Just wondering, Thanks.
  5. It looks like we may receive daily updates on the KI website. There is a new picture for today up too. http://multimedia.pki.com/images/news/CIMG1368.JPG
  6. Haha, well now I feel rather sheepish. For some reason when I entered the forum it skipped the end of page 8 and took me to the end of page nine (or mutedarkness' most recent post) so i didnt see your post TOPGUN.
  7. There is a picture up for March 8, 2006. It's just hidden at the bottom of the page instead of the top with yesterdays pictures. http://www2.cedarfair.com/KingsIsland/news...cfm?item_id=487 Here's the link to the picture. http://multimedia.pki.com/images/news/CIMG1366.JPG
  8. Like I said earlier, I think these supports are for the track coming out of the loop and just before the lie-to-fly section above the lift hill. The section between numbers 4 and 5 in this link. http://www.geaugaguide.com/album/albums/us.../L-X-Flight.jpg EDIT: after looking at the pic you posted below BEASTmaster, I think you're right, so disregard the opinion above.
  9. I stayed at GWL just this past weekend, and i can vouch that the chlorine is strong. I even had trouble breathing after a while due to my asthma. My friends and I were only in the water park for about 2 -2 1/2 hours, but after I left the water park and returned to my room, my trouble breathing went away. So this was probably just an allergy that these people experienced.
  10. Firehawk has gone vertical. Looks as if the supports for the track coming out of the loop (not completely sure though) is the first to be erected. http://www2.cedarfair.com/KingsIsland/news...cfm?item_id=487
  11. I think you're right Reclaimer. That doesn't look very "shiny" so to speak. That is probably just a primer.
  12. While i dont know what type of train SOB would get, my guess would be the 6 person per car trains. It just seems like they would look better on the huge structure of SOB. The others would look tiny.
  13. I've never ridden on a Gerstlauer train, but there are two different types of Gerstlauer trains. Did Maureen mention which type of train the park is looking at? Here is a link to the Gerstlauer page. http://www.gerstlauer-rides.de/english/Gerstlauer_E.html
  14. Great update as always guys. And thanks for the great pics Ronnie and Ryan. Thanks for always keeping us up to date on all that is Kings Island. Dane, what exactly do you mean by a simple "swoosh" taking the place of the loop?
  15. Yeah I saw that Cory. The crane was gone in the very next refresh after i took that screenshot and I havent seen it since.
  16. I got mine a few days ago, the funny thing is i'm not even list under the ride I actually worked on. The day they were taking pictures i was over at phantom flyers helping open. My pic is in the Nick U. section of the yearbook.
  17. Ok so I was looking at the actual webcam that TQZ found and it looks as if there is a crane moving around on the midway in front of racer.
  18. It's possible that they are starting to erect the track, about a week ago someone mentioned that track construction would start in about 1 1/2 weeks. So they might start soon.
  19. I honestly have no idea where this webcam is placed but, but i do have a guess as to what it is. I have to say that this is a river, only because there doesn't look like there is any ice in the water. There is still ice in lakes around me.
  20. ^Yes, the trains are low, and yes, ones back does begin to hurt if you dont learn to check the bars right. I'm not saying you're doing it wrong PKIVortex, so don't take that the wrong way, but most regular crew members learn to walk a certain way, kinda in a crouch/bend. Eventually you move fast enough were you don't have to bend over for that long.
  21. I was looking at the KI webcam on wcpo.com and the pic is not of KI but some random body of water. Here's a screen shot i took around 9:00 this morning. http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w135/ty...t=PKIwebcam.jpg I thought maybe at first this was a webcam of the river behind KI, but after some searching on Google Earth, I found no area that resembled that of the webcam.
  22. Congrats, UCcatguy, I thought about applying to be on the first Firehawk crew, but decided I would just stick with The Beast.
  23. I'm not saying we are getting anyting, but with possible activity by euro-bungie and the lazer tag building anything is possible. Also, KI hasn't released a large press release that spells out what all is going to happen at the park this year.
  24. I know the park maps will have Firehawk on the front but does anyone think that the front of the new map this year will have the same picture on it?
  25. It probably would be harder to paint once the ride is up but KI repainted Drop Zone last off season, and look at how tall it is. But I honestly have no idea as to which order things will happen. Will it be painted first or will Firehawk be assembled first.
