  1. not to change the subject... but in the image on the webcam page at the top of fireworks coming from the Eiffel Tower.... that's a Paramount era image isn't it? I believe so, Nights of Fire I think...
  2. For some reason I was just thinking about this ride and wondered whether there was any new news about its status, so I did some searching and... Well I'm sure many here, especially GoodYellowKorn, will be happy to hear that the ride has reopened and has been completely refurbished - new paint, effects repaired, everything. According to Orlando Theme Park News the ride opended on March 3rd. Glad something good came out of this! Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls Returns to its Original Splendor after a Lengthy Refurbishment
  3. Once again very cool photos, I enjoy looking at the new ones every day. I thought I'd share this in here since it fits in with the flashback till opening idea, I'm sure some of you may have seen this video, but for those who have not I just found it and it's very cool. It's a video of the park in 1981, mainly focused on The Bat, but shows other rides as well, it's a very cool video I thought. Look how much those trains swing!
  4. They seem to have taken it down already... But someone seems to be working on the website right now. The first time I clicked all that came up in the banner area was the picture of Don Helbig looking at the new map with no other banners, I clicked refresh and there was a banner for WindSeeker and the picture of Mr. Helbig looking at the map, clicked refresh again shortly after that and the website was back to normal... Strange...
  5. I believe the area from the photo labeled "planning" is also covered up... Just a random thought. I know maps sometimes have "coming soon" or "New Attraction in [insert year here]" over the area a future attraction, so who knows...
  6. ^^ Which is why its such a shame they've stopped playing the movie scores on International Street, it just gave it a more majestic feeling and they didn't have to stop.
  7. My only worry about Starlight Spectacular is how it has been maintained, I haven't seen Cedar Point's (which I think is coming back for its third year now?) but if anyone has, how has it been maintained? Are there lights burnt out or have they done a a good job keeping it a top notch light show? (please no 'yes' answers ) Also on the topic of Starlight, as others have said, it would be really nice if they could get some lights going on the other sides of the tower as well, most importantly the side facing the fountains. But other than that it seems like it should be another solid show lineup.
  8. My prediction, of which I have absolutely no evidence to back up, is that Action Zone will be the next area to receive a new attraction and will receive a revamp similar to Rivertown and Coney Mall. Like has been said many times on here, it does seem they are making their way around the park revamping areas and Action Zone is very much in need of some love. Once an area of the park I used to spend a large pat of my day in, now I go in, get a few rides, and head to the other areas of the park which are nicer and have more shade.
  9. Cedar Fair: -Cleanliness -Thrills -Shows, which seems ironic since Paramount is a movie studio... (Except for maybe the shows at Winterfest 2005 which I heard were very top notch.) -Landscaping -Replacing blacktop with pavers Paramount: -Atmosphere - whether it be area specific music or their attention to little things, I think maintaining the park's atmosphere is where Paramount holds the biggest advantage thus far over Cedar Fair. Under Cedar Fair we have seen the clock on the Festhaus break and go unrepaired, the fountains in the Tower Gardens (which is now a smoking area) stay dry, and the floral clock go a season unoperational (although this was due to a very cool light show in the area, it still didn't look good during the day). I know some will disagree as Paramount did do a lot of things which also hurt the atmosphere such as commercializing the park installing Italian Job in an area of the park which used to be very beautifully landscaped and putting other rides in areas that didn't match their theme :cough:Tomb Raider in Rivertown:cough:. -Initial theming of rides - we all know that for the most part, the theming didn't last long but it was still nice. -Nights of Fire As I've said the atmosphere (mostly attention to the little things) has been a big problem of mine with Cedar Fair, that I hope they improve upon this year. I think both Cedar Fair and Paramount have done their fair share of good and bad things for the park, neither is perfect. I was not a huge fan of Cedar Fair initially but I believe they are improving each year. That's all I've got right now, all I really know at this point is that I want April 30th to be here soon!
  10. I'm going to take a guess, to me it looks like the monorail for the Wild Animal Safari.
  11. I voted for a group of 4 rides: Diamondback: Very re-ridable and tends to have longer lines Flight of Fear: One of my favorites in the park and also tends to have longer lines (the idea of multiple laps in the front makes me wish it were open early) The Beast: My favorite ride. WindSeeker: It's all shiny and new and will most likely have long lines this season at least. Sorry to break away from the 2 ride system....
  12. The fact that they're putting the loop back in, duh.
  13. Really, I can see how some people are disappointed. A perk offered with the Gold Pass has been edited to include 2 different rides. But It truly is not a huge deal, the main point of a Gold Pass is free parking and free admission. I paid $70 for my Gold Pass and will have paid it off in less than two visits on parking and admission alone. To me that is a great deal. The ERTs are just an added perk (which on weekdays I usually had no need for) and changing which rides are offered, while maybe not gone about in the best possible way, is not a big deal. If they promised free parking and then changed that, THAT would be a big deal because that would cost everyone $10 per visit that they were promised they would not have to spend. Changing the rides on the ERT does not cost anybody any extra money. So no, changing the 2 ERT rides is not like changing the parking policy. You are still getting your money's worth, it's not a big deal.
  14. That has now been changed to: http://www.visitkingsisland.com/public/admission/passes/pass_faq.cfm
  15. Yeah I get what you're saying, I did read the whole thing and noted the increase in season pass holders, but wrongly assumed that ticket sales were considered in-park spending so I can see what you're getting at. I still stand by what I said about reasonable prices and improved quality of food leading to more guest, both pass holders and general admission, spending more time and money at the park. I also agree with your idea to offer discounts to pass holders. It would make a lot of sense to entice an increasingly large group to spend more money at the park, and a discount would be a good place to start.
  16. I'm happy to read about all the positive results of 2010, but with a nearly 8% increase in attendance you'd think they'd be concerned rather than "pleased" that in-park per capita spending decreased at all, even if it was only less than 1%. They had more guests spend less in your parks than the smaller number of guests from the previous year and they are "pleased" that it's only a little less. Anyone else see something wrong with that? I know the economy has been tough and season pass holders tend to spend less money in-park, but I guarantee that a lot more season pass holders and non season pass holders would eat in the park if the prices were brought down to a more reasonable level and the quality of that food improved. It's a hassle to leave the park and walk all the way out your car and either eat in the parking lot or drive somewhere else and if the offerings in-park were more reasonably priced and more appealing, I'd be willing to bet that in-park per capita would go up. And by keeping guests in-park and with more money in their pockets they'd have more time to look around in the stores and more cash to spend on apparel and pay-per-rides. It's all basic economics.
  17. I really enjoy this topic with all of the photos and videos being posted so thanks to all, especially TopGun1993 for getting this topic started. These pictures of Kenton's Cove bring back a lot of memories, I would love for a ride like this, a bigger log flume to be added to the park. Something that takes you up to the tree tops for a while like KCKC did rather than something along the lines of Shoot the Rapids.
  18. Just because the photo was staged, as most PR photos are, doesn't make the plans any less legitimate.
  19. You can see the same color stain used for The Beast.
  20. Very cool pictures of Kenton's Cove! I really do miss that ride. Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Kenton's Cove opened in 1973? Edit - CoastersRZ beat me to it.
  21. It was probably just stock footage of the park that the station uses for general stories, such as that one.
  22. I'm not sure how long it updates when it is running, but don't count on it refreshing again until midnight. It's been stopping at 14:56:39 (2:56). Somebody asked them about it on Twitter and they said they were looking into it.
  23. I get service at the park just fine with Sprint. Saturday nights during Haunt is probably just an issue with a high volume of people in the area using their phones and not necessarily an issue if signal strength. For example, I get service just fine at Great American Ball Park, but when I was at the game that they clinched the NL Central it was virtually impossible to make a call or text anyone.
