  1. No we don't know if it will reopen. They put the work in to remove the loop as one of the last ditch efforts to try and make it a ride that everyone will enjoy. What is the lesser of two evils: removing the loop and trying with different cars or not trying at all and TAER it down? I'll give CF credit, they are making an attempt at it, even if it does fail.
  2. The biggest reason there are many complaints is because walking into the hotel, it is very nice. Nice carpeting, lots of room, renovated, and some of the newer sections of the hotel are the most frequently traveled so they are easily seen (the area around the indoor pool & TGI Fridays). The Bon-Aire section is the older part of the hotel, and well, it looks old. It is not like some of the newer hotels that you have stayed in. People are comparing the Bon-Aire section to the renovated sections of Breakers as well as other hotels. What many people forget is- you get what you pay for. The Bon-Aire section of Breakers are the cheapest rooms on the Point- and they are that way for a reason. If you want a nicer, bigger room. Pay for it. If you want a cheaper room, but have the privlege of staying on the Point, the Bon-Aire is acceptable. When I have stayed there, I have not noticed a smell. I also turn the A/C up full blast to get the humidity out of the room, which dries it out. If it smells, talk to the front desk. If nothing happens, talk to a manager. In my past dealings with CP, they have always tried to rectify things in the easiest way possible (they basically took money off my bill). If I had a choice of staying on Point- but in the Bon Aire section, or staying off Point; I will choose the Bon Aire everyday. Have a great vacation!
  3. How long ago was this announced? Shouldn't this press release have been released sometime ago? But, hey, it's great for the park. This is great publicity.
  4. Ummm, Padfoot. Take a look here: http://www.mcall.com/business/local/all-do...sinesslocal-hed And I quote from the article: Cedar Fair officials have confirmed Steel Venom is leaving Geauga Lake for another park. They have not said where it will go or when it will reopen. You don't happen to know RumorSmasher, do you?
  5. Karen Are you trying to tell me that KI is not going to allow a family driving hunderds of miles to bring a cooler into the parking lot? I can see the headlines now: "Family booted from Kings Island for eating PB&J in the parking lot" "That man took my animal crackers!" said 4 year-old Jessica from Erie, PA pointing to the security guard that was escorting the family from the parking lot. That is the headline any park needs to create the family atmosphere they desire. Heck, we just found out why there have been so many line jumpers & people smoking out of the designated smoking areas! Security is in the parking lot doing trunk checks for coolers! On the serious side. My family has been taking a cooler to parks since I was too small to ride Gemini. We have never had a problem. And as was mentioned earlier, KI has a picnic area for families with coolers, as does CP. They are both located outside the gates. This is not an issue the park is concerned about (except the pigs that don't clean up their litter). And if the park was concerned about it, the food & drink prices would not be as inflated as they are.

  7. ^ Yeah, your point is very clear. There was an unfortunate incident at HW. You defended that by trying to bring up an incident at Disney where a guest tried making a very minor event into a media issue, your quote being "mind you Tigger beating some kid up" which was clearly not the case. Attempting to justify the actions of an employee at one particlular park by over- sensitizing an event at another park is wrong. It gives others the false sense that it is ok for one park to do it because another park has had problems as well. We all know that a park cannot have perfect employees, or for that matter, a park cannot control if an employee that is having a bad day. But it just seems that recently, there have been more incidents at HW than usual, and people are talking about it. If HW is going to claim to have the best employees for an amusement park, well enthusiasts are going to hold them to that standard. Just like with CP claiming to be the best park running for the last 9 years. Enthusiasts are going to hold them to that standard and be more critical when they don't see it. I do that with CP as well as KI. It just seems that HW is happy with status-quo and not striving to be a better park. The e-mail response certainly gave that feeling. Even though they claim to have handled the situation, the comment questioning if someone loves the park or not is uncalled for. Just because I love a park does not mean I will always have a perfect time there or turn a blind eye to an obvious situation that is not right. Sorry I'm not that type of fanboy that HW is expecting.
  8. It may not have been the lone incident at Disney, it was the one you mentioned. Just like the lone incident at HW that you do not want others to judge.
  9. Are you referring to the incident where the boy was grabbing Tigger's tail and Tigger swung around to stop the kid from doing it? Here is a video of it: http://www.local6.com/news/10685989/detail.html It looks to me that Tigger was losing his balance and turned around. Obviously not many other people thought it to be that bad of an issue since the charges were dropped: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,252387,00.html
  10. ^ I was thinking about the same thing about Detroit. The only rational thing that I can come up with is even though many from the Detroit area are guests at CP, CP is in Sandusky, not near Detroit. If CP was 20 miles from the city, there would probably be detectors. I guess being 115 miles from Detroit makes the CF officials feel that is a long enough distance for the violent element not to show up at the park. I kind of felt that way when I traveled to Detroit for robot training. Auburn Hills was far enough away from the city where I did not feel threatened- at least the part that I was in. But when I went downtown to one of the casinos, to put it mildly, I did not feel like I was in Kanas anymore.
  11. And prior to 9/11? Like I said, many years ago. If you wanted to get a gun into any park that had detectors, it would not be difficult, like I said, creative thinking. Toss the gun over the fence. A measly chain-link does not prevent that much (please refer to US- Mexico border). And chances are, even at a park that does not have detectors at the front, this is still the easiest way of getting a weapon into the park. How about when there are special events? Going through the employee entrance is convienant, just not exactly with security in mind. And how about vendors dropping items off at the park, are they checked out? Sorry, detectors look great. And may be effective in some situations, just not at an amusement park. There are areas that are too easily accessible that a person could get to unnoticed. Granted, you have to be a really sick person to even try and do something. But to have a secure environment, everything needs to be secure. Not just the people in the park that went through the front gate.
  12. My first experiance with metal detectors at a park was many years ago, first a Kennywood, and then later that year at PKD. My first impression was, "What happened hear that they now need this type of security?!?" Quite honestly, it made me nervous at first. While the detectors may be an effective deterrant, they in no way prevent anything. A person could get anything into the park at anytime. Granted, you have to do some creative thinking, but it would not be hard. Oh yeah, I forgeot to mention that a person that would want to bring in (a weapon in this case) has to be rather sick in the head. Is the park safer that the detectors are there? Sure it is somewhat safer. I also believe that when any establishment tries on promoting security that is easily seen (for this discussion, the detectors), it also promotes someone who is rather imbalanced to try and do something just to see if they can get away with it. It is kind of like waving a red flag in front of a bull.
  13. There have been many that have commented about the food pricing. It seems that some believe that it is only CF that is behind the current pricing, and I am not trying to defend CF in any way. But take a look at this from not too long ago: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7288 http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3328 I am just wondering if it is just the way that the industry is, not just this year, but the way it has been for many years, and we are just rather upset about it due to other prices going up as well, especially gas.
  14. When I brought my kids there a few years back, and they were infants, we had no issues bringing anything into the park. It was all in the diaper bag or in the stroller basket, security hardly looked at the items. And if the park would not allow things like that to be brought in, I could only imagine the lawsuit and bad press the park would get. And for the whole Vault discussion, that is really terrible. How can the park stop someone from entering, when the item was bought on park property? Sealed or unsealed, it should not make a difference. The park made money from the purchase didn't they? If it was their intention to not allow guests to bring in the drinks, there should be some type of signage declaring the rules, or even better, get rid of the machines all together. What a great way to treat your guests before they even enter the park!
  15. ^ The removal of FC really did not have anything to wit the accident. The investigation clearly showed that the guest was intoxicated. Additionally, the restraints were redesigned to prevent it accident from happening again after the 1991 season and the ride was removed after the 1995 season. I also believe that single riders were not allowed also as a result of the accident (I may be incorrect about that fact).
  16. First, X-Flight was at the very entrance to GL. Second; Beast, FoF and Vortex are at the back of the park (from your point of view). Their location has not seemed to shy people away from riding those coasters. I am wondering what location has to do with any 2008 project.
  17. That is terrible, yet rather funny. At least you made the most of your trip by taking a detour to CP. I can remember that for many years KI was close to the public the first Sunday in June. My cousin graduated from high school (as matter of fact, it was the same year as the Secadas), and we were planning to hit KI on Sunday just to find out that they were closed on our way down Saturday morning. We ended up leaving the graduation party early and went to KI Saturday night. Then we found out that if you could prove that you drove for more than 150 miles (I think that was the distance), they would let you in the park on Sunday. Score one for PKI's customer service department!
  18. Well if that is what you are looking for, absolutely.
  19. And another about a fundraiser last night: http://www.meadvilletribune.com/homepage/l..._160233807.html
  20. ^ I would have to say SoB has had way more issues than TTD. TTD did have many issues it's first year, but has ran decent since. Currently, SoB is 11 months SBNO. TTD has never had that much downtime. Also, I would find it hard to believe that TTD would not be here in 10 years. Yes Mr. Kinzel did say that TTD was his worst decision (and I applaud him for his honesty) but he also has kept other rides that were admitted poor decisions as well (see DT). And really, what good would removing TTD do? They would have to bring in the same set of cranes that built it, the footprint is not THAT big (it is very thin), and I can still see people still enjoying it 10 years from now. Never say never, but I would be very surprised.
  21. And, unfortunately for the park, so many little things had to add up for the event to occur.
  22. Both Disney and McD's quailty are a matter of opinion. (At one time, we all believed McD's was the only place to eat, and get a free toy with our happy meal) Disney may happen to have many uses for plastic, but unfortunately in today's world, almost everything is plastic. Quite honestly, when I was there for my honeymoon (BTW, my 7 year anniversary is today- yippee! ), I really did not notice how much plastic they used in their themeing. What I did notice was the detail that Disney put into everything, how clean the parks were, and how almost all the employees want you to have a magical time. But I will take the lesser of two evils. I would rather have Disney themeing with plastic, than no Disney themeing at all.
  23. Flume at CP= White Water Landing Flume at KI= Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal Both were really fun, family, water rides. I was very happy to get my daughters on WWL back in the fall of '05, especially since my youngest just turned 4. I miss them as well. It is difficult to find a water ride today that does not get you completely soaked to the bone.
  24. FC was a decent flat- at best. It looked better than it really was.
