  1. ^ Yeah. I seem to remember (if anyone knows for sure, please chime in) it was either the hill either before or after the loop which resulted in much speculation about why the 2000 downtime was so time consuming. For those who do not know what I am referring to, there was a crane near the transition track before the loop for the entire 2000 season & I believe most of the 2001 season. They kept "fixing" a significant "bump" between the two areas.
  2. Yes it did. From what I can recall, the collapse was due to a severe weather condition called a "downburst" which is often confused with a tornado. Combine that with (as kjkjkj mentioned) the rest of the ride was not constructed yet, the incomplete structure did not stand a chance.

  4. Structures are not made to fall apart. Coasters are thouroughly checked daily due to the stress/ pressure the support structure endures from the movement & weight of each passing train. If there are no trains (aka SBNO) the ride should stay structurally sound minus some support beams that have loosened due to weathering. These few fallen beams will not make the structure collapse. Much older coasters, have survived much longer (Conneaut Lake Park's Blue Streak comes to mind http://www.rcdb.com/249.htm) and have not collapsed.
  5. Assuming they are an S corp (and I cannot imagine they are not) filing is not a necessity since creditors can only go after business assets and (most importantly) they have no intention of re-opening. Any income (i.e. auction of business items- tables, chairs, maintenance items etc.) can then be used to pay creditors that have filed for money owed. Is it because the owners do not want to open the books? Sure. But why after 27 years would it suddenly close? Typically owners who fudge books do not last long, let alone 27 years.
  6. I hope they will perform better than the Grammys.
  7. Although it will be difficult for some to understand (especially those who believe owners of a business "must" be rich), nobody feels worse about The Beach closing after 27 years than those in charge. I am willing to bet the owner(s) were hoping season pass sales would generate enough capital to open the doors in 2012. When it became apparent sales came in well under expectations, they cut the cord. Did the season pass holders get screwed? They sure did. Can they sue? They sure can. Will they probably waste their time? They sure will. You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip. If the money was there, they would not have closed. I sympathize with those who did pay good money, and received nothing. Lick your wounds and take up KI's or Coney's offer. A bird in the hand is better than two in a bush.
  8. Why would you only use your Season Pass then??
  9. I honestly don't even know why those passes are even offered. Free parking alone is worth the upgrade to Gold.
  10. Honestly, you get what you pay for. If someone tried saving $5, and didn't read the fine print, they have no one to blame but themselves.
  11. Good point. I wonder how many are assuming the same thing as myself. Not that the "special area" matters. I'll take the free parking & walk with no problem.
  12. With any luck, they are making it a larger area. It's on here: http://www.visitkingsisland.com/season-passes
  13. ^ Stop trying to redeem yourself. This topic has 49 pages of the same thing. Most of it useless crap, and a good chunk has my name on it (I do like to get a good laugh-or at least attempt ). Don't keep trying to figure out what the next step is, because I don't believe the execs at KI/ CF even know. Read my signature. I put it there, with a link, for a reason. Often times, there is no hidden agenda. There is no spin. It is exactly what they say it is. You are right though: it is about money, but has nothing to do with the cost of any addition or rebranding. It has to deal with reality. Up until the ride closed (the final time), smart people with smart ideas attempted to save the ride resulting in millions upon millions of dollars literally being thrown at SoB with zero results (just because it didn't work does not make them dumb- see Thomas Edison: "I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work"). Nobody has a greater desire to see SoB operate than CF and if there was one specific "fix" to make SoB a good ride, it would be done. But there are so many issues that need addessed, and combined with SoB's well deserved reputation, it is just not worth it to keep moving forward with fixes that may, or may not, work. As enthusiasts, all of us are better served for KI to invest money into other rides/ areas of the park. They did try on countless occaisions to "fix" a $10,000,000+ ride by investing an (almost) $20,000,000. You can polish up a piece of crap, make it nice & shiney, and you still have a piece of crap. The loop made the ride unique that beat the heck out of you. Once the loop was removed, it became just a ride that just beat the heck out of you. (I'm sure the diehards will disagree that it beats the crap out of you. They need to cut the personal feelings cord and understand that rides, even wood coasters, are not supposed to feel this way.) Although stranger things have happened, I cannot imagine KI letting SoB sit SBNO this long with the intent of it operating again. The writing is on the wall and we ALL need to take Don's (almost) year old quote to heart.
  14. Happy Birthday! It will not be crowded that day due to rain showers. Sorry!

  16. There is value for treated lumber; now how much value.... I don't know It can be recycled at any pulp/ paper plant (you would not believe the insane strength of the chemicals used in paper making). I doubt they will make money, or even break even taering it down. But the cost is much less than some have anticipated.
  17. Another article: http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/3-year-old-girl-injured-at-carnival-ride-at-rodeo-3407064.php This, IMO, is a recipe for disaster: No offense to ride ops because they have numerous things going on at once, but what are the qualifications to be considered an adult? This policy is, at best, vague, and leaves decisions that should be up to a responsible parent in someone else's hands.
  18. Perhaps it is just me, but I cannot imagine Mexican & amusement rides mixing well.
  19. And both experiences were somewhat satisfing yet uncomfortable!
  20. As long as the prices are comparable to professional sporting events, I will not complain.
  21. **cough** 2011 interleague play **cough**
  22. SoB had used so many strikes, the game has gone into extra innings.
  23. The device used to find the store wher the GPS was purchased.
  24. Suggesting to have SoB on the KI website while SBNO with zero hope of actually operating this season is similar to waving your hand in front of someone's face while screaming "I'M NOT TOUCHING YOU!" Also, if a guest confuses Beast with SoB, then shame on them. I question how they actually found their way to the park since they obviously cannot read a map.
  25. Disappointed? Absolutely. Upset (as I put it)? Why? The information is readily accessible. I believe we are both on the same page. My comments are more directed to these opinions/ stories: And the icing on the cake:
