KI to Hire over 5,000 jobs for 2018
teenageninja replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I think that's pretty obvious. The department generally has enough people to cover all their needs, plus they'll have the area managers, who aren't assigned to a ride, plus full timers as back ups if need be. There are certain times in the season (when the park is open, but high schools are still in) that they will make accommodations for non-rides employees to be trained. For example, in one of my seasons in park services, I would spend the first couple hours of my shift driving Vortex, because I had been a supervisor at that ride for a while in the past, and I was familiar with it. I still underwent all the same training. -

I'm not sure if Drop Tower has the 18+ requirement to drive the ride like The Bat, but generally they try to reward the better employees by training them to drive or operate the main control panel of the ride. They will start by training the returners from the last year and then as staffing needs change, they will start training the new operators. Also, there will likely be opportunities for you to get sent to another ride group, which is a nice change of pace. Just come in with a positive attitude every day and it'll work out! -
I see it now. I hadn't watched the video, so I thought those might have been the motors. Whoops!

Shocking to me that this ride has two trains at the same time. About the DB seats. People are going to be sitting in them all day, when are they going to get that hot? Other rides have black seats, it's going to be ok.

If you are a teenager in need of a job I can't recommend Kings Island any more. It's one of the jobs where you can get what you put into it. It pays more than minimum wage and you can generally work as many hours as you want. -
KI has tried things like this. The problem is the guests have to follow it, which in KI's case they generally don't. IJ:ST was one of the first rides that I can remember doing this at KI.

What ride did KI make the biggest mistake in getting ride of

But they had to move them to fit in IJ:ST, duh! /s -
100% agree with you. There is absolutely no way that KI is getting rid of LaRosa's in the Festhaus. Plus it is always packed in there. I don't think you see the same crowd for traditional German food. The only possibility to add another restaurant in there, would be to remove the show stage and have another food area in there. They use both lines for LaRosas on weekends and it's more than busy enough. The best option to run German food in the park, would be to serve it at the burrito shack and I don't think the park values German cuisine enough to do it.

Come on man...

From what I hear, there is no way the operating budget is anywhere close to what a standard day is.
-
Honestly, I doubt they would open if there is accumulating snow on the track.

As of my last stent at the park (2011), you had to be clean shaven and all tattoos and piercings (except one for women) had to be covered.

As opposed to being outside in the rain and whatnot? I assume it's the chemical in the fog fluid that's worse than anything.
-
It was me. I think you are also making a pretty big assumption that it is being smoked in the water park.

Mystic Timbers had it's normal running lights as of last night.

I don't have time to set up a formal poll. Feel free to do that yourself. People don't like waiting in line. If KI installed a coaster with a similar capacity, people would complain about how long the line takes. -

I had friends that didn't want to wait 15 minutes for Mystic Timbers, so I assume they are less willing to wait in line than others. -

Adding a coaster that gets less than 1000 pph on average isn't a good business decision for the park. They don't want people in line, they want people on the midways spending money. I'm not saying it would be a bad ride, or wouldn't work, but Cedar Fair knows that high capacity rides are a better investment than low capacity. Think of how much people complain on her about the capacity of Firehawk for example. The GP doesn't want to stand in line 2 hours for a ride either. -
KI Computer Systems that create the KI Best Day

I can confirm that most of the rides and coasters, at least prior to the addition of Diamondback, use some sort of PLC system mostly ladder logic type stuff. -
Christmas Nights of Lights- Coney Island

As mentioned in another thread. Get there early, or go on a weeknight. Friday and Saturday night, the traffic will back up across the I275 bridge into Kentucky. -
I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's very unlikely. Also, please ask your father if he wants to work 50+ hours a week as a Supervisor. Can he do 13 hour days regularly? Can he work 3 to close and then come in the next do to open or work an All Day shift? Oh yeah, keep in mind they don't pay overtime either.

The problem that Kings Island has recruiting older people is a few things, this is a very general statement. 1) Most of the supervisors in the park are in their late teens to early 20s. A lot of older people don't like working for younger people. 2) Kings Island is a seasonal job, you are guaranteed to have a few months off every year. 3) Unless things have changed, since Kings Island is seasonal, their seasonal employees do not get benefits. Not to mention, the wages they pay aren't anywhere near living wages. It's just not a sustainable job for most.

Just imagine how long that line felt when Son of Beast wasn't there. If you notice, there isn't much space for switchbacks. When the ride was built, the line stretched to the entrance and beyond, so it didn't feel like that long of a walk. I would imagine you could find a way to stick something back there, and there is always the theory that they will reuse the Son of Beast station for something in the future.
