No it's where the train doesn't have enough speed to make it through the circuit. It gets stuck in a "valley" of track. ooh, sounds like fun, i wanna get stuck vallying on a ride, seriously, it would be an amazing experience... i wanna get stuck on a ride so bad. be the last car to run on a particular ride, or something.

i doubt lightning, as it was open wednesday, and it was a pretty good day out if i remember correctly. Son of Beast was not functioning properly on tuesday, when i rode it, and it was horrible thundering/lightning on and off monsoon type raining all day... it was the red train giving trouble for them...i think that the lightning thing is full of crap, if it were true, someone would have seen drop zone testing before then... i doubt it would cause damage to the computer circuitry when its not on for maintenance...

well i read this on a very reputable website, about The Bat. i wish i had saved it, as it had info i had never heard before, like that fact, i think that they didnt announce it too much, because of the fact who announces when a rides closed, but it did give people a change of mind, more of an indirect thing to pick up the day if The Bat was closed... it also mentioned that in the cincinnati enquirer they had a The Bat secton where the current status of the ride was posted everyday, with updates... can anyone verify this?

they ran one train pretty much all day tuesday... dont see why they couldnt do that while they try and fix it like they did before, somethign tells me its not just the red train, or it would be open.

we need more ridees in the back part of the park, around The Beast and rivertown, take out tomb raider... idk, but Action Zone os pretty full, id doubt we will get a new ride around that area for quite some time.
-
i think they would be more apt to get that part ASAP because of its downtime in the past... i wouldnt think so though, as it prolly wouldnt be both trains not operational if it was a problem wiht the trains, and if its track, its all wood. they could just be modifying the station more for the new trains.

If some how it takes till past 8/4, will we still have the SoB backstage tour? id quit worrying about it being closed that long, id doubt it... id say it reopens in the near future.. or something would surface as to whats wrong with it....
-
lol we should all take guesses as to when it reopens... i say july 19th
-
i think that this downtime was to be expected, they did a major change to the ride, reguaging the track, adding new (to the rollercoaster) trains, and took out a major section of the track. id imagine that this was there plan to open it for about a week or two, and then see what they can do to make it better. they may have heard the reports on the rosebowl, and are repairing that, or it could be the red train that i noticed wasnt on its top game... who knows? but its to be expected since it did just open after a years worth of closure, it could just be a problem unforseen, like the controls not being very happy with the new cars, or the brakes as well. id imagine they would have to be modified a little to work with the new trains as they arent the same length or weight.

i beleive the last day it was operational was the tenth, when i rode it. the red train just seemed to have problems with restraints on one row of one of the back cars, when they tried to repair it for wednesday, id bet that they ran into some other problem trying to fix the problem at hand. i wouldnt worry about it too much, i highly doubt the tenth was the last day the Son of Beast is operational.
-
yeah, that isnt too fun... sorry about your luck. anyone know if its open today?
-
what is up with you guys, Son of Beast is a great ride! one of my favorites! they arent gonna tear it down anytime soon, unless it has another freak accident, or its maintenance becomes overwhelming like The Bat... its not that bad, they are prolly just getting it running tip top shape to make sure it will be running for years to come. its red car wasnt cooperative the last day it was open, the tenth, so id bet thats what it has to do with.
-
yeah, they were quick to update on july the 4th that the Son of Beast was open. they removed the sob is now closed or whatever disclaimer it had next to it.

i was there on tuesday the tenth, and the red train was having many issues. they kept closing it down to try and get it working, but to no avail until about 5 or so. they finally got it working, minus one row towards the back of one car. it had the security tape. other than that, i have no idea whats up with it. it has been down since that day so ive heard though, so i guess i lucked out...
-
heh, ive heard its been closed ever since the 11th, i rode it on the tenth, on the first and only car before they shut it down for a while longer. it was on and off all that day. towards the end of the day it finally was running both trains minus one row of one car on the red train. sucsk for the people who are unable to ride it. i wonder why its been closed so long since then...

heh, when i was in line for The Racers, there were these girls right behind me, about 6 of them. they all saw Firehawk, and then were asking each other what it was... noone knew, then they proceeded to ask me. i told them it was Firehawk, they then asked if it went upside down, as they were staring at the ride... i sware, this was about 8 pm and they didnt notice the Firehawk signs all throughout the park, on park maps, advertisements, everywhere.... later on in the middle of the ride on The Racers they asked what the ugly blue ride was that flipped... needless to say i left really quick, as they pretty much annoyed me for the day.

heh i love The Vortex, one of my favorite rides in the park. although i noticed it gets rough after a good rain, idk why. maybe it was just that day i went last. it seemed really rough. but i still love The Vortex. my neighbor actualyl goes to Kings Island once a year just to ride it. he sees the shows, and eats, then rides The Vortex, and leaves.

grr i wish i was there on a day when they would hand out vaults like free candy on halloween... i love Vault!
-
i was with foFirehawkfan waiting in line, and i do know that on the tenth when we waited, they were working on getting the red car working. somethign about it wasnt right to them. after we got off the first car of the day they shut it down for a short time, trying to get it running, with no avail. it reopened with just the blue train a few minutes later. it was then shut down for quite a while, in which they got the red train working, minus one row in a car that was not functioning properly, they had the tape on it and whatnot. maybe they are just trying to have both trains running when it opens to avoid the long lines that a single train operation causes. the red car still didnt seem right, as i was leaving, i saw it testing again with no riders.

Trip Report Kings Island 7/10 (SOB Review!)
jondrewfoo replied to jondrewfoo's topic in Trip Reports
heh, well we didnt know about it till later either... the rider safety guides have little timestamps, where you can go to the exit, and go up to the attendant, and theyd either let you ride immediately, or give you a specified time. its for guests with special disabilities, of which my brother and sister are. they were there when we got the Firehawk stamped for 630, but then they left and didnt come back in time, so i ended up going by myself... -
one of the things i really want to ride at night, The Beast. my mom always makes me leave before the park closes... its quite annoying...

Trip Report Kings Island 7/10 (SOB Review!)

How was your first experience on the "New" Son of Beast?
jondrewfoo replied to Delirium33's topic in KI Polls
it was amazing! i had almost forgot how great of a ride it really was! i was on the same first train of the day yesterday as FOFirehawkFan, but in the car in front of the last that he was on. it was a great ride, although the part where the loop was is very obviously redone, as in you can tell there was something there before, if you didnt know there was a loop there originally. -
ok first off, i came to Kings Island on 7/10 with a special group, it was quite amazing. we got there at 9:50 or so, and it started pouring down rain as we got to the parking ticket spot.we walked into the park, and got soaked. it stopped for a brief time, but not long enough to open the rollercoasters. i went to Firehawk, and they said it had a lengthy maintenance delay beyond the rain, so i said forget this and went to the Son of Beast! it was only sprinkling by this time. i got there, and there were a few other people waiting for the Son of Beast as well. they said it had a minor delay, but figured it would clear up by the time the rain would clear. waited, and got to talk with some interesting characters in line for the Son of Beast, and 2 ride operators. Some worker codenamed "blueberry" was prank calling them multiple times while we were waiting as well. we waited till about 12:30 or so, and the Son of Beast opened! we were obviously in the first train of the day, something very cool. we went and it was amazing, i sat in the next to last car. it was amazing as usual, still its same old self, minus the loop that is. as we stopped at that checkpoint next to the station we saw a maintenance person working on the red car. we went through the exit, and i wanted to ride again, but they had closed the line. after us and maybe one more train, they tried to get the red train operational, but it didnt work obviously, because about 5 minutes later, it reopened with just the blue train running. this time, i rode in the very back car, and boy it was a whole different ride there. it was way less rough and you did get a bit of airtime, but not much. it was also good to note i rode next to some worker at Kings Island who was 6 foot 8, and he fit in the back car fine, however his knees would hit the barrier between cars, so he needed to ride in the front of any of the cars after this ride. after Son of Beast i hit face/off as usual, apparently they have a Cedar Fair policy about scared people where they take them off the ride. some person did that, and they had to undo our restraints twice, and recheck us all... annoying if you ask me. got off, went to eat at picnic groves. after that i took my little sister on runaway reptar, where we witnesses a kid have a seizure as he went off the ride, kinda scary, but they handled the situation ok which was good. as soon as we got off the ride, it rained again. we got lucky i guess. we then proceeded to scooby doo, and got inline just before a bout a hundred more behind us. we got through in about 5 minutes or so. i then rook her back to my mom, and we then rode The Beast after it stopped raining, then again as soon as we were off it poured again. we went to spongebob, and it was walkon. it stopped by that time, and we hit Vortex. again as soon as we got off, it poured. i feel sorry for the people on the car behind us riding The Vortex in the pouring rain, that mustve hurt. it cleared up after that, and no more rain for the remainder of the visit. i went to Firehawk, and it just opened as i walked there, but the line was forever long. our group i was with gave us these rider safety pass things for if there were long lines, so i sued that ability on Firehawk. went to the exit, and got it initialed, and i got there at 6, it said come back at 6:30. i rode Flight of Fear, a 20 minute wait, and it was fun, although i asked the ride attendant if we could do a lights on car, and she said no quite rudely. got on Firehawk through the special entryway, in the front car. it was amazing. after that i rode Son of Beast in the second train, and it was the roughest of them all, and then headed out to leave around 8. i did however stop to ride The Racers as it was almost walkon. i ran into some pretty slow girls, that had no idea what any of the rides were called... (Firehawk was the grey and red shiny ride, and Vortex was the ugly blue one with a corkscrew). they were annoying, but i corrected them with some good advice, and the names of the rides. then i had to leave as my mom had to work the next day. all in all i call it a good trip, despite the rain.
