Cedar Point will have ERT in 21
IBEW_Sparky replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Exactly this!!! When I was Director of Detail at a Ford/Chrysler dealership, I had one of my employees come up to me and ask "Do you think you can talk to the sales desks at Ford and Chrysler, and see if they can talk to customers who get deals done after 630 (we closed at 7) if they can come pick their vehicle up in the morning so us closers dont have to stay late". I just looked at him like "You did not just seriously ask me that?" I gave him the facts... and this is how it should be anywhere in the Country that charges a client a fee for a service or item... I said "Look, if you go into Best Buy at 850pm and start looking and asking about an $8,000 flat screen 8k TV, do you think for a second that salesperson you are talking to is going to kick you out at 9? H ell no, they are going to talk to you until midnight if they have to in order to make that sale, and the same goes in spades for that $75k F250 Platinum ole Bubba is looking at". Closing time is 8/9/10 pm (should be midnight from July 1-August 30) therefore the closing time for any and all services... including ride access... should be closing time, MAAAYYYBE 30 minutes prior like bars do with last call. It also relates to my employees who would come to me about their pay rate (which was disgustingly too low). I did everything in my power in a losing battle against ownership to change that, and my employees knew it, but the bottom line that they agreed with was they willingly and voluntarily took the position with said low pay, much like any employee willingly and voluntarily takes a position knowing its hours and possible late off times going into it. -
Holiday World's Reaction to KK News
IBEW_Sparky replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The perfect world answer on what current ownership is thinking is "Oh ****, get Fred Grubb on the line" but in reality, I recall hearing and reading rumbles across different platforms (this was months ago people, so no I didn't save every link to my Mac) about lingering financial issues stemming initially from the T-Bird installation. -
@Shaggy I realized later as I was dozing off (yes Ive got one of those binary minds that just doesnt shut off so I think of things at odd times) that I left that statement more broad than I meant to, I do apologize for mis-speaking in that manner. I own my screwups, unlike fanbois/girls, and thank you for calling me on it. I also admit that, while I was nearly sure it was Herschend, I did have a wild off the wall thought of another player possibly in it in the shadows who does have that $100+ price point on passes, but when I read the group operates 9 parks I realized that thought was invalid because the one in my mind only operates one park.
-
I dont know what the deal is with the confused look, the player in the game has park season passes at $100+. so it should be me that shows confusion as to why you don't think they will do the same with this park..... and Im not speaking specifically of Herschend. Like Shaggy said, not yet, there are others at that price point as well.

People OUTSIDE KI Say The Darnedest Things
IBEW_Sparky replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island
You should have showed them a pic of the ground now, and told them the wet ground from the snow sank it like quicksand, I bet they would have bit. -
Id suggest buying a 2021 pass now, before it goes up to $100+ after the buy.

Kings Island to ‘strongly encourage’ employees to get COVID vaccine
IBEW_Sparky replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
In that case, it is up to you as to whether you wish to trust a surgeon or a scientist.... again Im saying ITS ALL UP TO YOU (collective you) and I have no alliance or personal like towards either. -
Kings Island to ‘strongly encourage’ employees to get COVID vaccine
IBEW_Sparky replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Honestly I don't think they will need to, humans have a difficult (99.99% impossible) time keeping things quiet, especially with things like this. Those who don't will most assuredly speak up amongst others about it, which may or may not result in the actions Oldschool mentioned. -
That depends on whether you are talking about gold for the owner or gold for the enthusiasts.

Cedar Fair FY20 Year End Results
IBEW_Sparky replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Im retiring after this year, and I chose this year since the Plat is free anyway I may as well, and I was genuinely hoping for something semi-similar to 2019s enjoyment level in my last year... and yes I completely knew going into it there would be a number of the same things this year as last and was prepared to accept it and deal. I figure I will go to attend one of the weekends during the Anniversary Celebration time period, and to get the 20th Birthday ride on Millie I didnt get last year and contend with the crowds with the nearly empty hope that they will be selling FL+. Beyond that, unless/until CP or KD get something absolutely astounding in the future... and Im talking better than SV astounding... I am refocusing my energies on racing and going back to my roots. -
Crew chief-ing and helping build a car to race at Street Car Takeover in Indy in July (hopefully, maybe, with a bunch of late nights and cramming) or to spend the year testing in "private areas" to prepare it for a trip to Memphis and maybe OKC next summer.

Cedar Fair FY20 Year End Results
IBEW_Sparky replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Sorry, Im on one this morning, but I read this as "We are going to shorten the season, and see just how many Gold Passes we can sell to make the park go capacity every single weekend day and improve year end earnings while diluting the park guest experience". -
Oh there is no "eventually" to it, they would be drawing up plans to relocate at least Lightning Run and Storm Chaser to other CF parks before the ink on the contracts were dry, Hell before they were even SIGNED. If people want KK to stay like it is or improve, the absolute last company they want in any type of purchase talks is CF. Sorry, fool me once....
-
I happily stand corrected, thank you, and I can respect their willingness to hedge on the "When restrictions start to consistently lessen/rescind, there will be an exponentially larger influx of people eager to get out and enjoy the entertainment" investment theory.
-
I was certainly not disappointed in the park... as I said it is a good day park with a nice group of rides... and the water park looked like a good one for those who are into them, I noticed that as I walked along the edge of it on my way to Kentucky Flyer. The Koch interest came and went years ago, and Herschend wouldn't touch it... or any other acquisition for that matter.... in the current economic climate and with venues under their current level of restrictions. There are a dozen things at least that could constitute "jaw-dropping change".... I am putting that in because I know on sites like this a simple spray paint mark can within minutes turn into "gGiGa CoNfIrMeD"... and I am just basically thinking out loud in my "Could I actually have been right, albeit a few years late?" theory.

That suuuuuuuuucks! I went to KK for the first time on Labor Day, and while it honestly isn't a bad park at all, I left that early evening with the feeling "OK, there is Storm Chaser, Lightning Run, annnnnddd then everything else". I started hearing about the Raptor project and was quite excited and looking forward to it. Again, I did enjoy the trip, and its only an hour and 20 from my house, but it's easier for me to justify multiple trips to "day parks" when there are three great things to keep me happily occupied rather than two. Im going to be astounded if my prediction from years back is actually transpiring now, though Id also be very puzzled as to why he would do it NOW, when the park is doing well..... or is it?

Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
IBEW_Sparky replied to Hawaiian Coasters 325's topic in Kings Island
Oh, for the "I aint gettin no dang guvment vaxxine, its got one of dem dang trackers in it" demographic..... may I ask if the aforementioned are posting on, or even carrying, a smart phone? No more will be said. Ive addressed what Id like to see, I know Im already on lists, I have no concern about willingly getting a vaccine provided it will allow me to contribute to the eventual return of normalcy, I wish to "freely" (pure freedom is anarchy and unsustainable) enjoy the time Ive got left to enjoy this go around, and I can happily sit back and watch the rest of things unfold. -
Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
IBEW_Sparky replied to Hawaiian Coasters 325's topic in Kings Island
Yes, all of this!!! Id be 100% on board with A)going back to full trains, even if the mask requirement remains for the queues and for all building structures OR (prefrrably) B)Having a card with one's name and/or photo on it showing verification of receiving the vax and simply being able to show it to security/admissions to compare to my pass name and photo for unrestricted access to the parks. -
Is Kings Island the new #1 ahead of Cedar Point?
IBEW_Sparky replied to RayFields's topic in Kings Island
Scratching this year due to just what it is, and taking out 2009 when I went to Kings Island at least once a week (which is what completely killed me on Diamondback to this day since I over-rode it to death that year) I average 3-5 trips to CP and usually no more than 2 to KI (opening day and Pride Night). Take into consideration that I am 2.5 hours exactly to Kings Island, yet am MINIMUM 5 hours from CP even taking every bit of leeway that Indiana and Ohio Troopers will give me (and sometimes more). I enjoy Banshee quite a bit more than I enjoy Raptor, and FoF gives me an experience I cant get at CP, but beyond that CP just has more for me across the board both from a ride experience and a general sense of enjoyment when I am there. Kings Island has most certainly cemented itself as a top tier CF park, but not #1 over CP in this person's eyes. Edit: I completely agree with Turtlepowers point concerning Kings Island's FL entrances being better than CPs. Though I have never had inkling or need to use FL or FL+ at Kings Island, its most certainly more efficient from a load and throughput standpoint, especially in regards to Millie and GateKeeper. I remember back in 12-13 they used to bring the FLers into Millies station through the side door of the station behind the operator's booth, and while I understand how that could become a problem interfering with the line waiting for 1-1, I feel it was still a more efficient system. -
Holiday World's Raven Gets Track Work
IBEW_Sparky replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
You heard correctly, Voyage was running great when I was there in mid July. Raven sucked rocks.... I Love(d) that ride and its never been a one and done for me, until this year. -
Yes, and it was a mother to get out of there and back towards Cleveland at park close on FrightFest nights!
-
Since my first trip wasnt until Labor Day weekend 2006, and after researching what an engineering turd it was (BEAUTIFUL to look at though) I never even fathomed queuing for it after it reopened and I was going to the park regularly, can someone(s) please give me a genuine level of comparison to gauge what I (wasnt) missing? For instance, how was it compared to my favorite Voyage, or compared to Mean Streak? Mean Streak was a ride I genuinely didnt mind riding, and felt that had they file 13ed the garbage MCBR that made it shuffle the entire second half of the ride it would have been just fine, so lay it on me in comparison to those?

I will very likely be one in the “passes not renewed” category. Ive been one who has gone mentally from “I think Im going to get all season FLP since I get FLP every time I go to the Point anyway” to “I think 2021 will be it for me, and thats only because my 2020 Plat is good in 2021”, and the gross overselling of CP Gold is one of the underlying contributing factors. Other factors are the possible continuation of hoops to jump through to get into and “enjoy” parks post 2021, and the simple fact that other parts of my life are taking precedent and will continue to increasingly do so.
