I probably wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had to choose music for a daily playlist.
-
Probably the same people who request all the copyright material in order for the park to play it in the first place. I imagine there is some thought put into it. Some places (mainly grocery stores and malls, though I imagine amusement parks do this to an extent as well) will select certain music to play at certain times in order to get customers to do certain things.
-
I've heard horror stories from employees that had to work in the kids area, regardless of era, in reference to hearing that music over and over again.
-
Lots of Beach Boys music during the Water Works days as well.
-
The WindSeeker playlist is pretty extensive as well. I know I've heard music from Harry Potter, Superman, Star Trek, Star Wars, ET, and The Right Stuff there.
-
Here's ones I remember. Paramount era- Theme to Terms of Endearment- Michael Gore (I'm not even kidding, awkward much considering what the movie is about), Theme to The Saint- Orbital, Theme from A Summer Place- Percy Faith and His Orchestra, the entire Top Gun soundtrack in the queue, Raider's March- John Williams (AE queue), The Day We Fight Back- Independence Day- David Arnold, Fratelli Chase- Goonies- Dave Grusin, I Feel For You- Chaka Khan (QTV), Smooth Criminal- Michael Jackson (QTV), Baby Elephant Walk- Henry Mancini Cedar Fair era- The Walker- Fitz and the Tantrums, What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)- Information Society (FUN TV), Right Now- Van Halen (Drop Tower queue), Song 2- Blur (Invertigo queue), various music off of the Ocean's 11, 12 and 13 soundtracks in the Backlot queue (at least they used to)

This thread got me curious about B&M's products. I see several interesting things about how they distinguish their products. http://www.bolliger-mabillard.com/ 1. Their 'giga' coaster is lumped in under their hyper coaster model 2. They're getting into family coasters, which, their family inverted coaster has a layout to several newer Vekoma layouts from their equivalent 3. They still have stand up coasters listed I'm also hating the new train colors on Dragon Khan at PortAventura.
-
I know of one in Europe, probably in Switzerland where B&M HQ is, and I believe they have a west coast location in California. Batavia's can really churn out track if need be, so I imagine they can get by with minimal locations to produce the steel.

Tip for riding Beast or Racer- ride in the 2nd row of each 3 row car. You're not directly above a wheel housing, thus you'll get less of the jolt when the wheels bang against the track. The exception, for me anyways, is the front seat, though I've also found row 2-1 enjoyable on Beast.

I'll just say this- I've been out to the plant before on similar endeavors and I'm familiar with those camera angles back in my early days of running another coaster website. To get both of those pictures, unless they have a nice zoom, they would require the photographer's presence either on the property or on a neighboring property. Just sayin'.
-
It should probably be said that people taking these pictures should be highly encouraged not to trespass on the property to take them.

With the way the support connectors are on the track, I'd guess this is a coaster with trains above the track, ruling out an inverted coaster or flying coaster. Those track parts could be for any of their remaining types, so I won't guess which for sure yet. A piece of track in the picture on the original post definitely shows the base of a lift for such types. Keep in mind, too, that this track could be going overseas. This plant has produced track for several parks abroad. @DontWantToWait42mar0- You do realize that Thunderbird will in fact open before this one, right? Why exclude it because its a wing coaster? That makes no sense. How is Hulk not a B&M?

Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal would be one I'd like to have back.

I'm planning to go on one of those Fridays in May since most area schools are still in session, though you may get the school groups who make lines go from walk-on to 20 minute waits instantly. They're still decent days to go.
-
Sorry, but I can't resist posting this. EDIT: I guess they realized that mistake by the fact he didn't mention the words 'Six Flags' since a bit of that list is composed of SIX parks.

I'd have no issue if this were a privately funded venture and Ed Hart was truly putting his money where his mouth and ego are, but the fact that its being funded by taxpayer dollars is a huge turn off for me. I won't support Kentucky Kingdom in its current set up.
-
You guys should probably wait until the Wednesday before opening day to start guessing the weather.
-
And that prevents Kentucky Kingdom from inviting the press to the park because....?
-
Lightning Run is an 'iron' coaster? I sure hope not... Also, why do the promo in the news studio? Why not do it at the park? Most of the things Kings Island did with news stations when Banshee was stirring things were done at the park. This one came off as tacky, at least to me. Using a cardboard poster to display an internet screen cap? Really?

Its especially true for the helix now that I think about it. Since its such a gradual descent compared to most coaster drops (only an 18 degree drop if my memory serves me right), there's this steady build up of sound as you get closer to the tunnel after what is, to me, a rather quiet moment as it just disengages the lift.
-
I grew up on it without the music first of all. Secondly, its the kind of ride that doesn't really need music IMO. One thing that cemented that is when I did a Beast tour back a few years ago when they allowed them in conjunction with the Susan G Komen Breast Foundation for breast cancer. It makes its own unique music. There are many sounds unique to it, especially as it rounds through the final helix; it sounds like a distant caged animal. Its surreal. The sounds it makes on its own are good enough for me. I know the speakers are on the two lifts, but wooden coaster chain lifts are among my favorite amusement park noises. The music feels like a gimmick. This is coming from the mind of musician by the way.
-
I honestly prefer it with no music.

I'm not sure why so many people think that KI needs or will get a giga. No North American park has installed them outside of Cedar Fair. The parks receiving them have market areas that are more populous than Kings Island's. Not to mention, part of Kings Island's market intersects Cedar Point's, a park famous for "building them bigger". Bigger isn't always better. And yet, how did the park market their last 2 coasters? Kings Island may not be in a growing market, but its still a sizable one. Think of the cities Kings Island pulls from. Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis, etc. That's nothing to scoff at. I don't buy that as an argument against Kings Island getting a giga coaster. I will say that Kings Island's lack of intermediate rides might prevent a giga from being built though. I think there's simply too big a gap between the kids rides and the rest of the line up. They have plenty of thrills to last them a bit IMO, especially after Banshee's debut. I hear about that so much nearly every time I go to the park.
-
It also depends on a lot of things. Weather might deter people, the fact that it isn't a year a ride like Banshee is opening (I remember WindSeeker's debut year's opening day being fairly light), etc.

It should be obvious about our lack of keeping time in this thread. We've been doing this.
