  1. PROJECT 2014 IS NOT A WING COASTER!
  2. ^^^ No. See Mr. Ouimet for more info.
  3. Yeah, so technically, I could care if the ride was less than fun ;-) Anywho, you all go back to speculating, I'm off to garden!
  4. I realized this after looking further into it. I can't remember if it was here or on Pointbuzz, but there was someone who did compare the spine sizes from one coaster to the new coaster and they were praised for finding that out. Either way, I could care less, as long as the ride is fun.
  5. *mutters something about the difference between being punched in the head and being punched in the head with boxing gloves on* I'm not really getting my hopes up with Kentucky Kingdom. I think Terp's probably hit the nail on the head, although I think the fact that things are happening at the park is a good sign. The lack of communication is telling, but I'm thrown off by the fact that work is being done at all in the park. Time will tell, I guess. I agree. The fact that there are things happening at the park, full timers in the park and positions sporadically popping up on their website (ala grounds person) throws me. However, I don't think there is anyone in the actual Public Relations/Marketing position. So that could be a factor of why we aren't hearing updates as often as we'd like. I mean, if you were trying to re-open a park, would you be constantly updating on the day to day happenings (I know some of us would say we would, including myself), but it's not really practical to do so. Just playing a little bit of the devils advocate. I personally hope the park re-opens and it might. I'd just rather them focus on re-opening the park and then start updating us on what has been going on as the time for opening day draws closer. Does anyone that lives in the area of KK have any recent pictures of the park or signs of construction?
  6. So back to the original topic, what have you all seen a ride go down for? When working on Crypt in 2010, we had to close the ride down several times one day because of a bird in the ride chamber. They would enter the ride chamber when the automatic doors would open for people to exit and they'd remain open for what seemed like 5 minutes. Trying to chase a bird out of an enclosed ride area is quite entertaining, but at least it was air conditioned.
  7. Just asking, but how do you know this?
  8. Comparing these pieces of track to that of Gatekeeper, the size in the picture above is different from Gatekeeper. Counting the holes, that are used for bolting the pieces together, on the sides of the track (Not counting the top and bottom rows) there are three holes. Looking at Gatekeeper's track, there are 4 holes on the sides (again not counting the Top and Bottom Rows). Aside from Mr. Ouimet's statement about no wing riders next year (I can't remember the exact time frame he said), I'd say based on the difference in track, we can assume for sure that the coaster above is not Wing rider track. ^^ My photo from a Gatekeeper construction tour.
  9. Water, sanitizer water (basically) and then sent out
  10. I can't remember if anyone said this, I know I didn't but......Protein Spills! I remember once in 2010 while working on Diamondback, we had a full train come back into the station, with someone who by sight you could tell was sick, upon further inspection, we saw that they got sick! We had to let the guests off the ride, two of our ride ops cleaned the train while I ran out to the main brakes where the middle train was. As I started talking to the guests, giving them an update of why they were stopped for a period of time, I headed from the front of the train toward the back. Once I was about halfway back, someone raised their hand and asked when they'd be getting off, they weren't feeling good. No sooner did I start walking toward them, they leaned over and gave the ride another protein spill. I let them know they'd be in the station shortly before heading back to the station. Once back in the station, I made my supervisor aware of the issue on that train. We started the cycle with an empty train leaving the station to dry off from the water, chemicals, etc. and brought the next train in. We repeated the same process as before. Thankfully, when I went out to the train on the main brake, no one protein spilled. We sent that train out and ran a 1 train op after that for at least 15-20 minutes to make sure the ride wouldn't pass any illness from the protein spills. Either way, it was gross.
  11. What are we supposed to be seeing? Because all I can tell by your posts is how you think Kings Island operations suck because they don't have 4 trains on the two major coasters, the ride ops don't spiel like you do and you believe Kings Island has far inferior operations when compared to Cedar Point. I'm sorry but you are really not helping your case here. You say that rides could have more trains if guests would cooperate, but because guests don't cooperate that creates an issue of downtime and eventually stacking. So wouldn't adding a train to the rides just keep the issues of guests not cooperating going thus not improving capacity/interval/stacking trains? So to the Original Poster: What can cause the ride to close? Someone who is big on the "crap" listed above.
  12. So what your saying is there are neurotic people with no life on here with nothing better to do then whine and complain? What he is saying is respect of other posters is needed. As a former journalist. If you cant show your sources, then it cant be believed. Covering your source, for legal reasons is one thing. But that usually does not carry any weight. When a source is named, then its believable. Plus a source that leaks info is either not a good source or is trying to gain something. I do not want to get my source fired. I think that is a good reason to not disclose. If you don't want to get your source fired, the answer is simple: Don't post anything that you can't provide a source for. If your source could get fired for your disclosure of "information" then you shouldn't post the "inside information" or any information that you may know. Unfortunately, if you can't disclose who your source is, you have 0 credibility on any "inside info" that you post here.
  13. Most injuries are caused by the park guests, not the rides themselves.
  14. Thanks for sharing! Carowinds is a different park for me, I'd love to get back there some day. Loved your ratings on the crews. What is your favorite ride at the park? Where did you sit?
  15. Also take in to account that Canada's Wonderland is located in an area where the money is worth 3 cents more than the American dollar.
  16. I agree with a few posts on here. The more and more I look at it, The more I think that SOB's station will be Utilized with this new Ride. Don May have said that is the Home for WolfPack, but he did not say thats ALL They are going to use it for. Its too nice a Building and Set up in a Very Unique way.. Not to Metion the Reuse of Vortex/The Bats Station, Granted that was quite a while back, but it shows it can be done.. Plus it would save a Little bit of Money. Granted not much, But every little bit helps.. I just don't see the station being used for the new attraction and then for haunt. That'd be silly, "oh hey it's time for Halloween Haunt, let's close the attraction down to put up a Haunt."
  17. I'm so excited about this! I had no idea it was coming. I'll be visiting USF in December. I know my friend and I will hang at Moe's for a while!
  18. I think you missed my point. When I worked on Diamondback doesn't mean that I currently work on Diamondback so I have no idea why I was the one to cause the trains to stack. I also have no idea why Firehawk had practically (not a guarantee) a safety every day for an entire month last season. I didn't work on Firehawk last season or at the park last season so I have no leverage on the reasons why. Sadly I don't think you realize that until you earn your credibility here on KIC that people are going to question and try to figure out where you are coming from. How are we to know if you were a "nazi" when you worked at the park if you haven't even introduced yourself? What's your name? Where did you work? When? I'm pretty sure you didn't "down" rides, in fact you probably stacked the trains if you were on a roller coaster unless you were on Invertigo or Woodstock Express. As for who the park hires, leave that to the park. If the park didn't think that minors couldn't handle it they wouldn't hire them to operate the rides. This has been the case for many years. And I'm sorry as a few others have pointed out, no Beast and Diamondback could not operate with more trains unless more blocks were added. Diamondback has 6 blocks. A) Lift Hill, Mid-Course, C) Main Brake (After splashdown), D) Transfer Brake, E) Waiting Breaks and F) Station Brake. The blocks are set up so that if Blocks C is not clear, meaning blocks D and E are not clear, the train will not release from Block B. As long as the ride is in operation and the lift has been started the trains will automatically advance to the next block if it is open unless it is at Block E or F. To proceed to block A from block F, block A must be cleared. If block B is not clear with a train stopped in the Mid-course the train on block A (Lift Hill) will stop on the lift until block B is cleared (when the train has entered block C). To have a train proceed from block B to C, block C must be cleared (that would send it through Blocks D and E suggesting that a train is in block F) Block A has to have block B open to proceed, Block B has to have block C open to proceed and block C has to have blocks D and E open to proceed. All the above is based on a 3 train operation by which the manufacturer and park had determined to be appropriate. Thus making it impossible for another train to be added. The block system for The Beast is also very similar and hosts 6 blocks total. Also, I can't compare my mic use to yours. If you would please submit us a sample of your work, that way I and other members here can compare my mic use from 3 years ago to yours currently (do you work at the park? If so it's not very wise to be posting as you are on here). You may be hearing more spieling on the way up the lift hill on The Beast than you do in the station because there are different factors. One being rotations, two being that the ride ops didn't know what to say, three the people on the train coming into the station were more enthusiastic about the ride than criticizing on how the operations of the ride went, four the ride ops may know someone on that train, five all of the other reasons.
  19. I'm pretty sure Department47 already answered your question and I have to second that. Having worked on Diamondback previously, stacking is a problem. Was it our fault as ride operators, not always. 95% of the time the train in the station was ready to dispatch and we had numerous guests trying to wait for their friends inside of the gates on the unload side, guests taking forever to place or pick up their 6 or 7 items, guests taking off their flip flops, etc. I'm sorry if you think that stacking trains is a big problem, but I hate to tell you that the park would rather stack the trains instead of sending a train out when it wasn't safe. And I'm sorry that you have a perception that no other ride operator would grab loose articles for guests, because I can assure you that our crew did that more than most realized. What is a failure to you is not a failure to the park.
  20. dare-to-fly or any one, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you dial 911 inside the park property, isn't it connected to the park's emergency service?
  21. I have panic attacks every so often. Now I don't know the individual, but if I were that scared of getting stuck on a ride, I wouldn't go on it. These people were stuck at most 10 minutes before being escorted? That seriously isn't enough time to work yourself up on, especially if the ride ops were communicating through the PA system (which I'm fairly positive they would be).
  22. Another reason could be that the news station that carried the feed no longer carries it.
  23. I like a little bit of everything. Having studied music in school I've found that I really like anything that stirs emotion in me, no real genere sticks out.
  24. Consistency between associates. One way to avoid "she rode __ but she couldn't ride __" is to have your child measured in Planet Snoopy and get a wrist band.
