Interesting Disney story:
shark6495 replied to westcoaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Not to mention the original designers were fired and KI revised and tried to finish it in house. Then a bunch of legal stuff happened afterwards. If I design a mousetrap that is the newest and greatest. Then you take over the project and change something (even miniscule) it may not work as well as intended or at all. -
Baby shark, Mrs Shark. and I may be up at the park this afternoon

One of the articles linked in here or linked from a linked article talked about the construction. Basically they are loosing 3000 feet of track with the rebuild. They are taking out one of the spurs that goes to the left side of the tracks. Soooo The coaster would start on the right lift hill, go through its stuff then when it would come back into the station (if it was the original set up) it actually bypasses the station completely and goes up the left lift hill. Then it goes through its stuff then returns to the station. Imagine if they put The Beast's second lift hill at the exact same location as the first lift hill (sort of). Thats the idea here.

A big take away from this is to enjoy the parks while we can. CF seems to be entering a golden time for the parks. An emphasis on the past while building strong park portfolios. Creating parks to cater to families and thrill seekers both. No one really knows just how long this era will last and what will happen afterwards. I hadn't really been back to KI since the CBS days and this year I have noticed a genuine improvement of the park. It's a place I'm happy to take my son.

Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and claiming it as your own. I dont remember Blackfish stating "We shot this film" but then again your point supports my thought sooooo Im going away now. -

I think that has a lot to do with the medium you are using. People who go to the shows probably enjoy the entertainment more than the information. But when it comes to a movie, I think the education can happen. Could you imagine a week long event like Orca week? Here is a 45 minute documentary about the Killer Whale vs The Great White Shark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS53yy_2R0Q -

Its been about a year since I watched Blackfish, did they credit YouTube for the use of the footage? Did YouTube require they be documented. If your friend has it in writing, Im sure she has a case, if it was an oral agreement (which is done by many filmmakers) then well, who knows. (Im not a lawyer, but during my production days, whenever I sent out my own film to be used by others, I had a written agreement, usually in email). Im not defending the thesis Blackfish presents, but I am willing to defend it as a film/artistic representation of what it wants to do. By defending the things we hate, we preserve the rights of the things we love. IMHO: Sea World should have been more proactive from the start. Release its own documentary. Get big ratings. Work with Discovery channel to do a Orca week. Sea World has been pretty silent when it comes to being proactive on its part. Sure a press release here or there, but that does not reach the word of mouth. Show video of an Orca striking and killing a dolphin or sea lion. Show what makes Orcas more frightening than a shark. Orcas are cool. But I mean no one relates the Orcas in the Happy Feet movies with the same ones in Sea World. -

A fairly good Opinion article. FYI the opinion is that Orcas shouldnt be pinned up because they are huge predators. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/08/130803-blackfish-orca-killer-whale-keiko-tilikum-sea-world/ But does touch a bit on the PR snafu by Sea World Worth the read. -

Documentaries dont have to be informative to be quality. I am not defending the implications made by the film, but a documentary takes a thesis, shows your its supports, and lays out its closing argument. Blackfish did it. Is Sea World still installing raising floors into their show pools or is the new tank going to supersede that? -

Now I wonder how true the Blackfish people would have been if SW would have participated. The problem is if SW puts out its own documentary it will look like a PR stunt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Stepping back from the one sidedness of the documentary it is well done. It is out together nicely, uses music to effect mood, gets it's point across, and gets people talking. Just because you don't agree with the message doesn't make it bad. They presented one side of the story. Right or wrong Sea World chose not to be part of it. Every story has 3 parts, my side your side and the truth. Blackfish tells one of those parts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I will sat this terp, as an almost 30 year younger person. I enjoy the haunt, because it is frightening but its a different type of fright. I have almost always known the fear of being around me. I was 13? when 9/11 happened. I have lived more under the Global Terrorism Threat than without it. Being a father: I have so many worries that involve my son: choking, broken bones, being stolen, SIDS, head trauma, etc Being a homeowner: fire, water damage, tornado, breaking and entering, etc Not to mention the fear for my self or family members in my life. I enjoy being scared or having a "jumping" moment because at the end of the day. I can leave that behind. Laugh about it over Skyline or talk about it for years to come "Remember when you were scared by..." The real world stuff you cant leave behind. But I agree that I dont like Haunt taking over parts of other rides though.

Stocks are crazy. When I graduated college, a group of us at my first job discussed trying to come up with about 1000 (between 3 guys) to buy 10-12 Apple Stocks. A few weeks later we all lost our jobs. 6 years later, Apple stock is worth almost 6 times what we wanted to buy it for. Would we have been rich? No but we would have 6 K to split 3 ways.

I also thought KI was the flag ship for the first few years before they moved it to Carowinds...

Honestly I never look at who is posting and think "hmm I'm going to pick on this one poster." Plus this is the first time I noticed you, sorry. Instead I just added more fuel for thought. Nothing more. Many apologies if you think I'm picking on you. Next time why don't you PM me so as not to clutter the boards with this silliness. My original point was this about The Beast or any ride. We are only one bad owner or ownership group away from them making some very terrible terrible decisions.
