  1. I can see Holiday World making a killing off of these. I love Splashin' Safari almost as much as I hate crowds of people (I know, I know, I picked the wrong hobby).
  2. Amazing shots! I would love to see the rest!
  3. Looks like it is just for one day, though there does appear to be a three day ticket option. The cost does include admission to the park for the day. A full list of prices can be found here: http://www.spiritsongfest.com/tickets.php
  4. Personally I feel the "can we afford it" question was kind of side stepped there.
  5. I believe it is due to the manufacturers recommendations, which in Ohio must be followed by the park.
  6. $3 million worth, according to one Mr. Hart. I guess we will see if the Koch family comes to the same conclusion.
  7. I for one, actually hope that it is priced closer to the $45-$50 dollar range. I think that finding the price point that makes this a value for families but also keeps the riff-raff out may prove to be a challenge the first year. I have faith in the Koch family...but I have to say if this was practically anyone else I would have next to no hope of this working out.
  8. My thought (fantasy is probably a better word) was more along the lines of only a part of the area being rethemed. Rename Invertigo, add some more foliage, re-theme the eatery (whose name currently escapes me) and you could have a nice little area. Little being the key word there. Will it happen? No, but these are the sorts of thoughts the off-season brings. In an answer to one of the questions posted under the blog entry they state that it will be re-painted its original colors.
  9. Thinking outside the box here...but IF (as some here have speculated) Action Zone is due for a re-theme/makeover the Stinger name could fit theme wise with Congo Falls if some sort of new jungle themed area were to be created.
  10. This is great news! Hopefully the "expanded lineup of rides" is announced soon (and includes Firehawk).
  11. Some very amusing and interesting things here. Some I've seen or heard of before but a couple that I hadn't. http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2106937_2106938_2106939,00.html
  12. Thanks for all of these wonderful pictures. Though I do not comment everyday, it is the first thing I look at each morning when I get online. Awesome stuff!
  13. Far different tone than the Six Flags ads that were running on tv here in Indy just two or the years ago.
  14. Unless it has changed, it is not currently possible to pre-order Fastlane for opening day. Whether or not you can buy it at the park that day, I haven't heard one way or the other.
  15. I'm actually thinking about heading down there March 31st-April 1st, which will be the second weekend the park is open. What are the early season crowds usually like at Dollywood?
  16. I agree 100%. I think that what eases my mind ever so slightly is that the major additions in the past few years (PP, Wildebeest, and Mammoth) have all been in (or accessible via) Splashin' Safari. Anyone who has been there in the middle of the summer can attest that Splashin' Safari needs more ride capacity.
  17. Four members of the Koch family have formed a new company, Bluegrass Boardwalk Inc., to explore re-opening Kentucky Kingdom. More info here can be found on the company website: http://bluegrassboardwalk.com/ At least they are keeping this company an entirely separate entity from Holiday World. Granted my knowledge on the whole situation is not the most complete but the Fair Board just doesn't seem like the type of organization that the Koch's would typically want to do business with. To me it seems the two groups have very different visions and values.
  18. The results are in! For the first time El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure takes the #1 spot! Top Five For 2011: 1) El Toro (SFGAd) 2) T Express (Everland) 3) Boudler Dash (Lake Compounce) 4) The Voyage (Holiday World) 5) Phoenix (Knoebel's) Complete results can be found here: http://www.ushsho.com/woodrollercoasterpollresults2011.shtml
  19. I noticed that the price tag for the park is stated as $20 million in on of the photos from 1970 and then $30 million in one of the photos from 1972. Was the extra $10 million over run, was there more added to the park as construction went along than was orgianlly planned, or did the photo caption simply get it wrong? Thanks for sharing these!
  20. I would give up Backlot in a second to have the antique cars back (and I like BLSC)...but I would take the giga over getting the eagles back.
  21. Looks like the new Drop Tower (which will be manufactured by ARM) has a name: Zero-G! Link to Beech Bend's facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/beechbend?sk=wall
  22. As an unabashed B&M fanboy I have to agree with these two posts. From Iron Wolf in 1990 through Hulk and Raging Bull in 1999, there is a lot there to write about.
