Accident on Alton Towers Smiler
jcgoble3 replied to Bennett's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Alton Towers. -
Okay, that makes sense. Thanks. jcgoble3, who until now was completely clueless about entertainment auditions
-
Then allow me to amend my previous post: How does it take four months to call everyone back? I can't imagine that they'd have that many people to call.
-
Really? They hold auditions in early November, but they don't do callbacks until March? How does it take four months to evaluate the candidates?
-
You also weren't facing, at that time, a full year away from the park and looking for an opportunity to see the park one more time before you take that year off.
-
KK posted on Facebook that they are now offering an EZ Pay installment plan for season pass purchases. Passes purchased in November will cost 5 payments of $15.35. December purchases will take 4 payments of $19.19, and January purchases will take 3 payments of $25.58. These payments are inclusive of taxes, processing fee, and $4.95 EZ Pay fee, and passes will not be mailed until payment in full is received (in March). An outright purchase is $64.95 before taxes and processing fee. https://www.kentuckykingdom.com/tickets/season-passes/ Also, the 2016 operating calendar has been published: https://www.kentuckykingdom.com/experience/hours/

Mike Fehnel back to Dorney
jcgoble3 replied to rhyano's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Indeed. One wonders if Fehnel himself might have initiated the trade offer, desiring a return to his former team. (Seriously though, I do wonder if Mr. Fehnel decided he liked Dorney better and asked to return there.) -
Nope, that's the north tolls. The tall Kings Island sign (the one visible from I-71) in the background would not be visible from that angle from the south tolls.

Mike Fehnel back to Dorney
jcgoble3 replied to rhyano's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It's Brad Marcy, Dorney's most recent GM. So, a trade then? Carowinds: "Hey, Dorney, would you be interested in trading your GM for my GM?" Dorney: "Sure!" -
Yeah, with regard to The Racer's situation, FunTV is quite trivial. jcgoble3, heading for the exit

Great report, and great day! On the three quick shots of Drop Tower dropping, I absolutely love the effect produced by the tree between you and the tower. It's almost as if Drop Tower and Xtreme Skyflyer were magically twinkling out of existence.

I don't recall that, but at any rate, the theme styling shouldn't be getting copied along with the text in the first place, so there's something wrong. I've sent him a PM notifying him of this discussion.
-
Obviously, you're using the KICentral Modern theme, in which it does show correctly. Other skins, such as IP.Board (which I use) and KICentral Neon show it as black on black. This is not the first time this problem has displayed itself, and I suspect that the cause is a poorly coded skin, causing the theme's formatting (background color, size, etc.) to be copied and pasted along with the text. That shouldn't be happening, but it is, and Dane is the only one who can fix it.
-
Is there a reason this is showing as black text on a black background?

Cedar Fair Posts Higher Profits
jcgoble3 replied to Hank's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Can you say "Winterfest"? -
When you have to start yelling at people to wait until Thanksgiving is over with before putting up Christmas trees.
-
This isn't the first time that photo has been posted on KIC...
-
This is the sign being talked about (photo taken on May 24, 2015): This is located outside the gate; the scrolling marquees that display park hours and what rides are down are on the top of these signs.
-
You are not alone- same here for me. I'm really hopeful 2016 goes better... It will. Sometimes skipping a year gives a new, fresh outlook to the park. I'm hoping the same for 2017, as I will almost certainly be taking 2016 off completely.

To add two more stats to my list above that I forgot: Unused coupons from the spin-the-wheel games: 10 (1 BOGOF at Skyflyer, 1 BOGOF at Laser Maze, 1 50% off airbrush artwork, 2 25% off 1 item at DB gift shop, and 5 25% off 1 item at Snoopy Boutique/Spotlight Souvenirs) Unused coupons from the spin-the-wheel games that I might have actually used: 1 (BOGOF at Skyflyer)

Um... I rode a bunch of rides? I don't count individual laps on coasters, just credits. That said, here's some random statistics from my season: New credits: 2 (Sea Dragon at Columbus Zoo (#60) and Thunderbird at Holiday World (#61)) Vortex rides resulting in a headache: 2 Total Vortex rides: 2 Season passes: 3 (Kentucky Kingdom, The Beach Waterpark, and Cedar Fair Platinum) Wasted money on season passes: $104 (Kentucky Kingdom pass used for only one visit + Cedar Fair Platinum Pass w/ Platinum Dining Plan used only at Kings Island) Season passes I actually got my money's worth out of: 1 (The Beach Waterpark) Visits to Kings Island: 15 Visits to The Beach Waterpark: 3 Kings Island keychains obtained: 9 Times getting stuck on a ride and having to wait on maintenance to come fix it: 3 (Flight of Fear, Banshee, Surf Dog) Times that turned into an evacuation: 1 (Surf Dog) Attempts required to successfully ride my first ride of the season without it breaking down right after I boarded: 3 T-shirts purchased: 3 (retro The Bat shirt at KI, T3 shirt at KK, and The Beach tie-dye shirt) Film shoots participated in: 1 (Holiday World) Estimated money spent on gas for driving to and from amusement parks: $200 Raccoons hit at 1:00 AM on my way home from Kings Island: 1 Damage done by said raccoon: about $500 to the bumper plus an unknown amount to the A/C compressor
-
Interestingly, I just realized that this make two seasons in a row that I have ended on a milestone. Last year I was on the same train as Banshee's 2,000,000th rider for my final ride, and this year I ended by sharing a ride with a KICer during her personal milestone of 300 Vortex rides. What an odd coincidence.
-
That was my final ride of the season also.
