Agreed. I'd say the distance between parks has to be a minimum of 4 hours away. KI and CP, Carowinds and KD, Worlds of Fun and Valley Fair, CGA and Knotts are all a significant distance away from one another with the shortest distance being 4 hours between KI and CP. Instead of Holiday World, Cedar Fair would probably want Six Flags Great America. Instead of Kentucky Kingdom Cedar Fair would probably want Dollywood. Not that they'd ever have a shot at acquiring either park but the point is that they don't really overlap. Holiday World and Kentucky Kingdom are both in overlapping markets.

How Much Longer For Boo Blasters On Boo Hill?
SonofBaconator replied to kingsislandfan1972's topic in KI Polls
I think he meant its an original concept -
Something I've been given a lot of thought to these past few days. Throughout 2020 the general theme has been to socially distance. Hopefully when a proven vaccine becomes available people are going to want to go out and travel and experience their 1st real freedom in over a year; assuming things get back to normal in 2021 hopefully. Acquiring a smaller park might encourage more travel. I already talked about how Adventureland would be a good test park for this since its in between Worlds of Fun and Valleyfair which could encourage more people to travel between parks. The 1st season they could get in with their regular season passes then at the end of the season they could be encouraged to upgrade to platinum for the next season. Aside from Adventureland I don't know what other smaller parks that Cedar Fair would want to try this with. Again the concept would be to acquire smaller parks that reside in between other properties to boost platinum passes. They could be really bold and put in a bid for Six Flags America to bridge the gap between Kings Dominion and Dorney Park but that would be a stretch since they'd be acquiring yet another under performing park and would most likely become another Geauga Lake. In theory CF could purchase Scene 75 and operate both centers (which happen to be in Ohio). KI and CP pass holders could get certain discounts and the chain would still be making some money in the Ohio market during the winter months during the off-season

The only way that park could get significant investments is if the tourism industry in the Muskegon area grew. Nevertheless I think them not getting a new thrill coaster hasn't exactly helped boost attendance.
-
If you ever read Dick Kinzel's book, he talks about how he wanted to build a ground up park in Michigan but just decided to acquire Michigan's Adventure instead. Its kinda strange that they wanted to build a park yet they hardly added anything once they acquired MI. Maybe they thought the park had enough rides.
-
If Orion was 250ft with a 300ft drop I could see people complaining. Its not though. 13 feet isn't all that much of a difference in height. Just looking at the ride, you don't even notice. Again, you fall 300ft so its a giga. I agree with @SnakePlissken, this thread should be locked. Its going to turn into another debate section when the park and the chain have already called it a giga. If you don't want to call it that than fine, but people still going to ride it either way.
-
I would disagree. I think it adds to the character of the ride. I honestly couldn't imagine the ride without it. Also tunnels, whether short or long, really make a difference at night when you're riding in the darkness and all the sudden things get loud. I remember riding Mystic at night and the quick loudness of the tunnel was something I wasn't expecting.
-
I think because its layout is pretty compact for the most part with it almost 100% running along side Racer. I don't think fans thought "out and back" when they imagined their giga.
-
I don't get why people have to be so technical. There are only 9 coasters across the entire globe that feature a 300ft drop and Orion's one of them. And guess what- there's also 9 coasters across the globe that go over 90mph and Orion's one of them. If people are going to be petty just remember that some park's don't even hit 200ft.
-
People question it because its the 1st giga to have a 300ft drop but not have its highest peak crest the 300ft mark. If Orion was 300ft with a 287ft drop you'd have people saying its not a giga because the drop isn't 300ft. You fall 300ft regardless of height so its a giga.

The issue I have with Six Flags using WB IPs is that they are constantly going through changes. Their movies have been getting mixed reviews this past decade and I feel like that can affect the ride's reception. Look at 2011's Green Lantern and the infamous coaster that debuted along with it. Their characters go through so many reboots and changes that it doesn't work in my opinion. Also not everyone might not like DC. I'm not saying Marvel fanboys wouldn't go to Magic Mountain because of their DC rides, but I feel like the chain is limiting their demographics in a way. Batman might only appeal to a handful of people but an original concept like Mystic Timbers, Steel Vengeance, or Copperhead Strike might cast a wider net. The Looney Tunes are fine because they've stayed timeless much like the Peanuts have for us. My two cents

Personally I wish all of our coasters had IMAscore but if I'd have to pick it would be Banshee with The Beast in close second
-
Maybe I'm just a Cedar Fair fanboy but I'm not too fond of how Six Flags' operates their parks. Quantity over quality is obviously their business model as evident with their numerous parks, cheap reproductions, endless supply of sponsorships on rides and mostly non original IP rides. I wish they would sell off some of their smaller parks and focus on delivering a higher quality of attractions to their larger ones. I'd argue their smaller parks would receive more love under another chain like Herschend and Sea World or if they were independently run like Adventureland or Kentucky Kingdom. The DC themes seem kinda tacky to me. The rides themselves are fine, most of them are extraordinary as a matter of fact. It just seems like a lazy and cheap practice to keep naming rides after comic book characters. For example, Great Adventure's 4d freespin was going to be named "Total Mayhem" but instead they opted to name it Joker. I'm sure they get some cash from WB to theme their rides after their characters but it just seems effortless. Compare them to Cedar Fair who've created original IPs like Mystic Timbers, Maverick, Copperhead Strike, Orion, Banshee, Steel Vengeance, and so on. Also cloning. Now I've talked about how Cedar Fair should buy cloned rides for their smaller parks but Six Flags does it for most if not all of their parks. Almost every park has a Batman clone, a 4d freespin, a larson loop, a giant frisbee and so on and so fourth. They've gotten a little better at this with their larger parks but its still mind blowing. I know being the discount chain is kind of their thing but I'm honestly not a big fan of that mentality.

I understand that but there hasn't been as much news regarding any changes so far. -

Theme Park Media made a cool video on the scenario where more Sea World parks were added. -
Sorry, I'm going on a thread craze again. I thought of this when I remembered Mr. Zimmerman talking about adding something new to each park every year which is a Six Flags ideology. We've started to see more theming incorporated into our coasters which can be seen as a Sea World/Busch Gardens move. With that in mind, what else could Cedar Fair learn from other chains? Should we get more themed coasters like what you see with Herschend with Firechaser Express, Blazing Fire, Time Traveler, & Mystery Mine? Should we theme our sections better like the Busch parks? Should we get cloned rides for low lower tier parks like Six Flags? The possibilities are endless.
-
Most parks throughout the chain have wild/mad mice: KD, CWL, CWS, KBF, MI, DP, VF, & CGA. Why don't we? I wouldn't go far as to say they're essential to a park's success but they're too common in the industry for us to not have one (in my opinion anyway). They just seem like the one type of coaster that you'd expect a park to have in its lineup.

I'd love something like Pantheon. That would never happen in a million years with KI but it would still be cool nevertheless. -

Kentucky Kingdom

A raptor would be great. I also think they could get an S&S 4d freespin and a Premier Sky Rocket II. I know this is the Six Flags route but they're compact, affordable coasters. I know Ed Hart doesn't care for launched coasters but I wonder if he'd open to something fron Premier. -
Move One Ride from Anywhere in the Country to KI

Even though we already have Beast, Mystic, and Racer, I wouldn't say no if we got either of these honestly
