I have heard many reports of them not checking for reservations at Soak City at some point today due to the heat. So did everyone come prepared for a day at Soak City without knowing reservations were needed and benefited from them not checking or were there too many people coming off the train overwhelming the scanners and people were getting past them?

Um, where did I say it was Intamin's fault? Personally, I think if there was a belief it was the ride's fault, then all other similar rides would have been shut down as an abundance of caution, similar to how Drop Tower rides were shut down after the incident at KK, even Drop Tower rides like ours that was not the same design, and other examples we have seen from time to time. You inferred and put words in my post that I did not say. I was simply pointing out that the manufacturer was Intamin, as is our ride and it is another tragedy associated with that park and manufacturer whether we like it or not and regardless of where the fault lies. The first thing people would want to know is who made it and is it similar to ours, so I saved them the effort of researching it, even though the article that most probably will not read points out who the manufacturer was. No where did I say "Intamin's suck" or "Intamin is a death trap" or anything to that nature because we do not know at this point where the fault lies. I love Intamin rides as much as the next Intamin fanboy, and any death on any ride by any manufacturer or at any park is a tragedy, regardless of where the fault is. It was not intended as an Intamin bashing, so your assumption on my intent is inaccurate. I simply said "So sad. Another Intamin tragedy" - and all of that is accurate - whether it is operator error, maintenance error, park error, guest error, or ride manufacturer error, the fact of the matter is it is an Intamin ride regardless of who was at fault and it is another tragedy (2nd death on this ride at this park) nonetheless and it is sad for all involved, especially for the family, but it is sad for the park, the employees that were working the ride at the time, the manufacturer, etc. Even if it is determined to be guest error, people will associate it with the manufacturer and park regardless. Just like how B&M is mentioned in most news articles or other websites about park deaths regarding the Raptor death even though that was clearly guest error - that death was clearly guest error, but it unfortunately still counts as a death at Cedar Point and associated with a B&M coaster and most of us agree that it wasn't B&Ms fault, but I do remember people at the time saying they should have made the fence taller, electrified it, barbed wired it, more signage, etc., but no matter how idiot-proof you try to make something, someone will prove you wrong. I meant nothing more and you have read more into it than my 3 word sentence intended. And people wonder why I write books here.....

Kings Dominion’s unbelievable fireworks 2021
disco2000 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yep, be glad KI has mostly their operating hours back! We mostly had a season last year and mostly this year, and some of the parks didn't open during regular season (or at all) and have greatly reduced schedules this year: Kings Dominion hours this year are 11am to 7pm and Soak City noon-6pm. They will stay open until 8pm during Grand Carnivale but no Carnivale on Tuesdays during its run. Carowinds hours this year are 11am to 8pm and Soak City is now noon-6pm - up until last week they were closing at 4pm. They will extend the hours by an hour during Grand Carnivale. Dorney doesn't open on Mondays and Tuesdays (closed today the official observed holiday) and its hours are 11am-7pm with water park 11am to 6pm. Cedar Point was closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays up until last week of June with 8pm closes. There hours are mostly restored now 10am to 10pm with water park 1aam to 6pm. Michigan's is closed Tuesday and Wednesdays and its hours are 11am to 7pm and waterpark noon to 6pm. Worlds of Fun is closed Tuesday and Wednesdays are 11am to 7pm and waterpark noon to 6pm. They will stay open until 9pm during Grand Carnivale and be open Tue and Wed during the event. Knott's basically has their normal hours - 10am to 10pm, waterpark 10am to 7pm. Wonderland has passholder preview today and tomorrow and most of the month hours are 10am to 8pm and waterpark 12pm to 6pm. They will extend hours to 10pm on July 24th. ValleyFair is closed Tuesday and Wednesdays are 11am to 7pm and waterpark 11:30am to 6:30pm. They will stay open until 9pm during Grand Carnivale but still remained closed Tuesday and Wednesdays during its run. California's Great Adventure is closed Tuesday and Wednesdays are 11am to 7pm and waterpark noon to 6pm. They will stay open until 9pm on Saturday and Sundays. -
Grand Carnivale - July 17 - August 1

Thought you were teasing Christmas in July like we had before Winterfest 3.0 was announced -
Be glad KI has mostly their operating hours back! It is unfortunate there were issues with our fireworks display last night, but it could have been worse from a guest perspective. Kings Dominion hours this year are 11am to 7pm and Soak City noon-6pm. They did fireworks yesterday and will today at close. Yes fireworks at 7pm. Someone was nice enough to post the 7pm show to Youtube. It is about as you would expect LOL. And hee haw y'all, Coney Mall is no longer country. 70s classic rock or Racer Radio vibes

She was seeking a refund when they couldn't open until July 2020. Just a phone call to an attorney had to be more expensive than her gold pass, but the courts ruled CF had to pay for her winning the appeal "We reverse the September 11, 2020 judgment of the Erie County Court of Common Pleas and remand this matter for further proceedings. Cedar Fair is ordered to pay the costs of this appeal under App.R. 24." https://www.supremecourt.ohio.gov/rod/docs/pdf/6/2021/2021-Ohio-2144.pdf https://www.thenews-messenger.com/restricted/?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thenews-messenger.com%2Fstory%2Fnews%2F2021%2F06%2F30%2Fappeals-court-rules-favor-woman-suing-cedar-fair-over-breach-contract%2F7794100002%2F

You must be in the park today since it is only one train today

You sound like the very kind of kid that gets penalized because of a chaperone policy! There are many more respectful, courteous, respect authority and boundaries types of kids, but it is always the few bad apples that ruin for everyone. And that goes for adults too. Just let them continue to do stuff that makes you sick to your stomach and not partake in their shenanigans and you will come out on the better end of the teenage years than they do!
-
True LOL and someone will spin it to fit their narrative. Those that wanna drop off kids unattended will be in the "increased security worked" camp, and those that want a chaperone policy will be in the "increased security didn't work" camp. And then there is the "I don't care" camp either LOL. It just seemed like they would have picked a business closer to them that had a chaperone policy and take the "everyone else has one" approach or site another theater that has one than to say because of fights 30 minutes away they are implementing a chaperone policy.

I didn't know Graeter's performed LOL. But if they did, I guess it would have been Germany since Graeter's is German, yet makes the ice cream in a French pot process

El Toro "Derails"
disco2000 replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
What classifies as a derailment and who is correct - the PR person for the park or the regulatory agency? Park says no derail but the agency that approves the ride for operation said it derailed. Kristin Fitzgerald, spokeswoman for Six Flags Great Adventure, said there was no derailment. “The train’s safety systems worked as designed and the train remained on the track,” she said in an email. "The rear up-stop wheel, which prevents the train from lifting, came up on top of the rail," DCA spokeswoman Lisa Ryan said. "El Toro will not reopen until the DCA is provided with a report by the ride manufacturer indicating what caused the derailment as well as how to mitigate the issue," I would think a wheel not being where it is supposed to be would be a derail. -
Dave & Busters Fight
disco2000 replied to disco2000's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
On the plus side, their PowerCard was recovered from the scene and their name is apparently Dave Buster (just kidding on the name, cross-threading Charlie Brown LOL) -
I get that, but why not make the bad guy be, um, you know name a place that actually implemented a chaperone policy? Movie theater patrons will say KI took care of it with increased security, so why couldn't a theater do the same thing as after all it is only a tiny fraction of the footprint of a large amusement park like KI.

Kings Island Camp Cedar to Open Spring 2021
disco2000 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
L...O....L... What I was alluding to was DeltaFlyer posting on Sunday that the facility will open by Friday "barring any unforeseen issues" generally means it is past most of the punch list items at that point. Tidy the place up sort of stuff. Now it is being implied that things like insulation and copper wire and pipe is what is holding them up at this point; but for a facility this size, there is ZERO chance that from Sunday to Friday that they could receive such materials, install said materials, get inspection approvals for said items being installed, get drywall up and painted and what not in 5 days. That would be tough for a single family home to have done in that time period, much less a large resort. I get it, and I am not disputing, that there are labor shortages on almost every front and almost every raw material price is through the roof or in short supply right now and how a shortage of one item can delay an entire facility, but at some point a business needs to quit kicking the can down the curb and look at realistic timetables - driving by it last Friday (where the building I saw wasn't even under roof yet) sure didn't give the impression that it would be ready a week later under even ideal perfect conditions. So the bigger question that nobody seems to be asking is was what was the source for the DeltaFlyer post that came off as having knowledge that the resort was basically days away from being finished? -
Kings Island Camp Cedar to Open Spring 2021
disco2000 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
But just Sunday you mentioned that barring any unforeseen issues they would open by the end of this week. If they are still in need of insulation and copper wire and pipe at this point, there is too much to do still even by the newest supposed opening of July 11th... -
No matter what picture would have been used, you would find something that wasn't right to you.

I totally understand them wanting to use it to their advantage, but using a place that does not have a chaperone policy in place as their reason I think is worse optics than saying they implemented a policy similar to what other businesses closer to them have implemented. I find it much easier to say and have people accept "As businesses adapt to changing conditions, we have adopted a chaperone policy similar to what nearby Kenwood Towne Centre implemented" is much better optics than "Kings Island, a mostly outdoor venue where someone can spend 11 hours at in a day that is 30 minutes away had a few fights and did not adopt a chaperone policy is the reason why we implemented a chaperone policy for an indoor theater where someone is here for a couple of hours". Maybe if KI had implemented a policy it would be more believable, but this sounds like a knee-jerk PR nightmare.
