Also seeing as how it's a Christmas holiday event I think most people will be associating it with the 2017 holiday season. Don't think many people are expecting, or really wanting, to go visit Santa in January. That's a bit early for their Christmas list, especially after having just received a bunch of gifts a week prior. I really don't think there will be much confusion.

EPCOT is getting a coaster
purdude86 replied to Colonel_SoB_fan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have to agree fully. I hate to see classic rides get replaced and was very mixed on FEA. It was a great way to infuse some new life into that area, and has actually sparked more education int eh process because kids are asking the CMs how it compares to their home and finding out things about Norway in the process. Whereas before most people skipped the movie, which was the only real educational aspect, and just assumed Norway was all about vikings and trolls. Universe of Energy though needed to be taken out. Hardly anyone seems to ride it and the ride system is ridiculous. It has not aged well and the video is dated. But the worst part to me is the slow process of the ride. It takes about 40-45 minutes to experience and at least half the time is spent sitting in a car waiting for the others to move with nothing to really look at or do. -
Decoding Episode 2.5: BONUS ROUND! Second Announcement!

If they put dark rides into Action Theatre and Crypt's old buildings, and revamped/spruced up Boo Blasters (either itself or preferably a Peanuts theme) then I think Kings Island would become my favorite regional park. I love dark rides and having three in one park would be amazing. If we had three ideally I would like to see a classic style omnimover dark ride back in BB building themed to Peanuts, a Curse of Darkastle type ride in Action Theatre and a Triotech type shooter in Crypt's building. Either a multi-floor that is like Voyage to the Iron Reef or a coaster hybrid like Wonder Mountain's Guardian. Think that'd give us a great mix of family, thrilling, and interactive. -
Good to know planning to go down around end fo November or beginning of December next year. Was wondering what it was like.
-
I always felt something like Mystery Mine at Dollywood would go great there. The queue could easily be reworked to going into a mine and have some scenes inside the bilding and then have it dipping in and out during the ride.
-
Would be cool if they did one through Soak City that was like the one at Canada's Wonderland (I think) in their Planet Snoopy where you are on a team of zombie hunters roaming through the area and have to battle zombies.
-
Yea basically in the space where the ladder game, basketball game, and Coca-Cola Marketplace are at the entrance to Coney Mall.
-
I'm hoping for a new flat, but would be all for a refurbishment of RFYLCB as well. Not sure if they would change the themeing as it works well with it being on the border of both Rivertown and Planet Snoopy. It fits the themeing for both. Plus having it in Planet Snoopy helps them maintain the higher quality and diverse children's area they have been awarded. While not likely, I would be excited to see a new Peanuts theme and decor for Boo Blasters, but don't see that as too likely so not going to get my hopes up.

Hulk trains in trash
purdude86 replied to Oldschool75's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The Incredible Hulk coaster has officially re-opened as of yesterday. http://www.mysuncoast.com/incredible-hulk-rollercoaster-reopens-at-universal/article_9d0b2742-5d9e-11e6-9b5f-679905c36f34.html -
While aesthetic improvements around the park would be great to see and always appreciated, however I don't imagine they'd tease and hold a special announcement for them. It's guaranteed to just disappoint most people, especially when they could just mention them at the prior announcement. It could be about an acquisition though. I really think this will involve some sort of experience or major enhancement to guests at the park, hoping a ride but could be a new restaurant or something along those lines too.

Disney wants to track your feet
purdude86 replied to upstop's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Or walking on casts, I walked around Carowinds all day with a cast a couple times. Crutches weren't my friend, I nearly broke my other foot on them. Considering that the technology has nothing to do with you actually walking but just tracking your location by when your shoes/feet pass by ground level cameras to track paths I don't think it matters how you are transported past the cameras; walking, wheelchair, crutches, etc. -
Agree with some others that my favorite was Top Gun when it first opened. The extended queue underneath the station with all the props and stuff and the fog effects in the station were great. Love The Bat right now though. It's probably my favorite color scheme of them all. It really pops back there with the orange track. And the theme of a bat fits much better in the woods than an aircraft carrier did. Just wish they could have either converted the small tunnel or the area under the queue into a bat cave look or the station into an abandoned building look with rafters to give that little bit of theming to it. Think that would have pushed it over the Top Gun theming.

Watch "Mystic Timbers at Kings Island POV" on YouTube
purdude86 replied to scottwoods42's topic in Kings Island
I used to be happy for theming but seeing as it goes down hill fast and never fix. I wait to judge the coaster till I ride. Just hoping the theme last longer than it did on Aventure Express. That's my one worry for the shed. Will be nice if it is heavily themed and has lots of effects to put the ride over the top but will sour the end of the ride and leave you on a bad note if it is not kept up. Granted most of the heavily themed rides we've had like AE and TR:TR were built and went downhill before CP time but as we've seen with AE and especially BBoBH they haven't exactly made many moves to replace or fix effects either. -

Yea I feel the same way. I just don't see a park like KI adding to new coasters in one year, even if they are both cheaper. It'd be better to spread them out to help keep interest generated and high. It would make for a huge year having two new coasters but likely be another 3-4 years at least until the next one, whereas thy could spread it out and do one every other year over the course of 6/7 seasonsand keep high appeal versus a really high year that decreases over the next half decade until the next major coaster -
Would love for drop track, and that was my first thought after the teaser, but the more i heard from the announcement and looking at the shed in layout pics the less likely it seems. The engineer said he doesn't know what's in the shed (though could just mean in addition to some track element) and the openness of the area below the shed in the artwork and video makes it seem unlikely to be drop track. So I'm assuming it will be dark ride type stuff. Like wind/rain effects and maybe some animatronics or projections to show the forest spirit attacking and then the "truck" escaping from it. Would love for something to happen with the track itself though too, whether tilting side to side (from vines "tugging" on it) or drop track, but not expecting it right now.

Yea I don't think they've added any lighting packages during the season. Seems like this was a similar case as Monster from last year. Honestly while I love the new LED lighting packages, I just can't picture this ride having something like what Scramble, WS, and SR&R have. It seems to jarring in my mind to have these bright colors and patterns with very subdued, classic paintings on it. Think the ride would need a completely new look with the lights, including the photos. Think could be cool to see it actually be moved over near the Eiffel Tower and a new small flat ride with LED lighting package in its spot. Could have a classic area around the base of ET with the Carousel and Zephyr and maybe another new flat or two or antique cars, then have Coney Mall be lined with flats with bright LED light packages on them.

Decoding Episode 2.5: BONUS ROUND! Second Announcement!

Not 100% sure but I believe 2014 was with Banshee's addition. They said i was the highest cost of any ride addition at the park at $24 million. So if the ride alone coast that much you could add at least another few million on for other additions and enhancements to the area like The Bat's repaint and new name/signage, the chicken Shack, and the new pavers and AZ plaza area in the middle. So I'd guess they spent around $30+ million that year for everything. Though there could have been another year that had multiple mid-level additions and improvements that could have pushed it over that price point too/. Don't think they ever release full investment costs for the year, just ride costs sometimes. But considering the GCI coasters are usually on the cheaper end for CI, there could still be enough budgeted for the addition of a flat or two. -
I'm really hoping that they just make Rivertown a scare zone itself and us the scare actors and props from Tombstone Terror-tory to make a ghost town theme around. Would really enhance the area and be a great addition, as well as easy to do with all of the props there.
-
Well stated and agree with all your points. Though will say that I love Disney but yea it's more about dark rides and experiences than big flats or coasters. Also people keep talking about wanting additions like Cedar Point gets but the last few coasters/additions they have had I saw met with lots of criticism as well. Calling Gatekeeper weak an Valravn(or any drop coaster it seemed) dull and one note, and the less said about Shoot the Rapids the better. So for all the want of CP's additions, quite a few of these enthusiasts complained about those as well. I agree that MT seems like it will be a great addition to the park. Looks like a fun, thrilling coaster that the family can enjoy. As someone else said in another post, the last non-Planet Snoopy addition with a height requirement under 52" was BLSC in 2005, that means that it will have been 12 years since the addition of a "family" style ride outside of PS. While in the mean time we have had multiple roller coasters and flats added (Including 2 major thrill coasters since '09). So I'd say that this was what KI was needing most at this time, more so than a huge giga or looping coaster.

Would love a mine themed dark ride in the old Crypt building, but not sure we will get something that big as a second attraction next year, but it would be a great addition. I'm at least hoping for a new flat ride in Rivertown area as well. Rivertown, and Kings Island itself, could use a new flat addition to add some more variety. Would be fine with other people theories about a PvZ type attraction in the Action Theatre as well. -

Just need to make one side go backwards again then there will be two unique experiences and be more easy to consider it 2 different coasters. -
New For 2017: Mystic Timbers!
purdude86 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Can't wait for this new coaster. Looks like a great addition as many have stated. Gives a good mid-level coaster that isn't too intimidating but still offers high thrills. And whatever is in the shed will really enhance it. I was hoping initially for drop track, but after the designer said he didn't know seems like that isn't likely as they would need to be involved with any drop track. My only "disappointment" is that I loved WWC's secluded nature which is now broken some with the coaster running next to/over much of the path. -
It could still be drop track. It would just drop you and raise you back up to the same level.
-
But it's the end of the ride pretty much so can't really launch much. I'm guessing there will be something like Verbolten with theming to the woods and nature with a drop track inside it
