ME too. I loved Skeleton Crew and was looking forward to going to it again this year.

The post is very vague on the exact specifications, but it should be assumed that it will be a carbon copy of Hollywood's Supercharged "attraction". Hopefully Florida's version will be a hybrid of screens and practical effects in the main ride portion, like what the upcoming Skull Island attraction is rumored to be. And the fact that it states it's an adventure with the stars of the movies pretty much says it will involve screens as that'st eh only way to have the stars a part of it. But I agree, I hope there is some more effects and things for it as well. Hopefully at least be something akin to Escape from Gringott's or Spider-Man with some practical sets with the screens a part of them versus just screens. Not going to really miss either of the attractions replacing it either. Beetlejuice was just a standard musical revue show and really didn't have much to do with Beetlejuice besides some of the humor. And since it was a stage show they could easily open up a new version elsewhere. Disaster was kind of fun but very old and never had much of a crowd so not surprised to see it go. The attraction has been updated multiple times but has always felt like the exact same thing through each iteration. Would be cool if they somehow utilize the subway scene for the new attraction in some manner though.

Do changes to a coaster/ride qualify it as new?
purdude86 replied to SonofBaconator's topic in KI Polls
I agree with others that it really depends on the change. Seems to be general consensus that just a face lift with new paint/name/etc. like Flight Deck to The Bat don't really count. I'd say that major changes like an RMC redo change the ride completely and therefor it is a new ride. The main thing that seems to be up for debate is stuff like Rougarou. I haven't ridden it yet but I'd say it all comes down to how major of a change the ride experience is with a new type of train. I'm want to say that with it having the same layout makes it the same ride, but being positioned in a completely different manner could make it feel vastly different. If it went solely from a sit down train to a floorless I'd say definitely not but going from standing to sitting is a big difference. So, overall I'd say it comes down to just how much the ride experience has changed for whether a ride is new or not. -
Tropical Plunge - NEW for 2016!
purdude86 replied to Italian Job 2005's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
It appears to be as well as the same one Carowinds seems to be getting as part of their expansion as well. -
Might give it a try if the line is short, but they had one like that for a couple years at a haunted house park in Indy and it wasn't that great. Gets pretty old fast, was more tedious than fun and no real tension. Was always glad to have a scare actor since they'd turn on a flash light real quick to reveal themselves so it gave a moment of light. Probably scary if you are afraid of the dark or claustrophobic, but otherwise not that great.

Looking at the animation footage shown off for this ride it looks like it might be utilizing the rocking cars used on the Seven Dwarves Mine Train coaster. This should make this ride even better. Can't wait for this addition looks like ti should be very good and hopefully won't take too long to get built. It doesn't seem like it will be as intensive to build as Star Wars land as the dark ride is just an expansion of the existing and is mostly screens, the coaster is all outdoors and the other ride looks pretty open. So theming wise shouldn't be too hard to get up. Could see it opening as the first phase of expansion in a couple years then Star Wars another couple years after it. I will be curious to see what else gets added here as there is still a lot of open land to build more back around Disaster Canyon and LMA show (assuming Star Wars takes over the Echo Lake area).

Have to wait and see if they put out more information or contact the park next season. but my best guess would be the Gold/Platinum pass lanes will likely just be for regular parking and if you want to upgrade you'll have to go to a regular toll.

Agree I think it's just timing. I've been twice so far this year and both times it was running. Once early summer and once last week.

Tropical Plunge - NEW for 2016!
purdude86 replied to Italian Job 2005's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Glad to see this announcement. Don't go to the water park a ton but this is a greatly needed addition to the park and have been wanting to see a new slide complex added. Defintiely have to make a trip over to Soak City at some point next year. -
The concept art, and part of the video, would definitely give that impression. there is a long flat stretch of track before a large uphill section. The concept art has theming saying "Super Launch" right at this portion as well. So I'd say most likely there is a launch on this coaster. I also agree with you Shark. Disney may not have done as many major additions that are seen by the general public in the last 5 years as Universal but they have made some major changes to the parks. They have already opened up numerous things in the Downtown Disney area with multiple new shops and restaurants and a new parking garage. And as listed above the whole resort wide addition of the magic bands system and online portals has changed how everything is experienced and really streamlines the trip making it much more enjoyable. Looking at attractions in the last 5 years Universal has opened the two Harry Potter areas, Transformers ride, Minions 3-D, and Springfield. These have been great additions but overall have been somewhat comparable to Disney's additions. Springfield was an expansion of existing structure, just adding a bar, food truck, and minor flat ride, with minor exterior facades to a food court. It is a great area but overall a pretty easy change. It is one of my favorites spots as you can guess from my avatar but it's still a small area. Transformers is a great ride but there is little theming it's a big grey box with a dark ride inside. And Minions is just a new video on an old attraction. Harry Potter has been their biggest additions and have amazing detail and great rides. They have also made some updates to city Walk and a new hotel. Attractions wise Disney's additions have been similar. Star tours update with new 3d videos (similar to Minion Mayhem), an all new Fantasyland w/ Storybook Circus that re-themed the Mickey's Toontown area and double Dumbo, added Little Mermaid dark ride, Snow White coaster, extensive Belle meet and greet, and restaurant (this is about on par with Harry Potter just a matter of what you prefer but detail and additions to park wise similar). storybook Circus is about on par with the Springfield addition as well. in addition they have rehabbed many other rides, added interactive queues, and other experiences in parks. so universal has added about one addition ride but Disney has added many other experiences. In addition they have made al the changes to their downtown area and resorts, plus the Magic Bands and have been working ahead towards many other additions to open in the next couple years. I give Universal great credit for really enhancing their parks overall and not trying to down play what they have done at all, but people have been trying to act like they are doing so much more than Disney, whereas in reality Disney has probably done much more overall and appears to have more in the works. For the future what we've been shown for the next couple years at Universal is a new hotel, water park, and Kong ride. Disney has more DVC additions, Frozen ride, Pandora, Rivers of Light nighttime show, night safaris (if you want to count it), and the rest of Disney Springs finishing up. Yes the Star Wars and Toy Story lands will likely be about 4-5 years out but they are being worked on.

I agree that Soak City needs more quality slides, but I see no reason for removing any slides at the moment. There is plenty of space there they can use or expand for new water slides or towers. So why replace slides when you can simply add and expand.

Dollywood 2016 Announcement
purdude86 replied to WindingSon's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Agree, same here. Never been to Dolly wood and had thought about this fall but might push it back to next year. Do Cedar Point over summer and Dolly wood in the fall for their Christmas stuff. Would coincide nicely with a birthday trip late November for my bf. -
I wonder what most people think. Do they appreciate the quicker lines at Banshee or paying for lockers? Do people even realize part of Banshee's shorter lines is its increased capacity because of no bins? I try not to bring what can't fit in my pockets personally, but I know that's difficult for some. I would say most general public do not like the no loose articles policy. The reason why is because most of the general public will ride maybe once or twice at the most. I know when I came with my non enthusiast friends, we got really lucky on a Sunday in July and basically everything was a walk on. We rode Banshee twice even though the longest the line ever got was at the bottom of the stairs to enter the station. We rode everything else once except for DB which we rode twice then left the park at 430. That was after arriving late at 1130 am. I think the majority of people see it as a cash grab instead of increasing efficiency (even though that's what removing the bins does). Quicker lines (which may be only quicker by 5 minutes over an hour of pumping people through the line) are nice but in the case of my non enthusiast friends didn't make much of a difference to them. Although they were upset that they had to pay to ride on Banshee because they bought a souvenir cup. Ill put it this way Gatekeeper, TTD, and MF all force you to either return to your car to place loose articles in the car or pay to keep things in a locker for a little while. At KI Banshee which is the newest coaster is the same way. With these coasters being new or very popular coasters most of the general public will view the lockers as a cash grab because they either have to use the locker to store items or they cannot ride it. I for one don't like the policy because there are many parks throughout the nation that enforce a no loose articles policy but provide lockers for free. (Yes I know that fee could and probably is added in the admissions fee!!!) If they force people to have no loose articles that means I won't buy a souvenir cup (or drinks for that matter) or play games because if I win a prize that excludes me from riding KI's marquee ride. I refuse to spend money in a park that nickel and dimes their patrons to death. I know others differ with that opinion but I come to a park to have fun not pay for a bunch of little things. Back to DB, My big question to ask about this DB stacking is, why is DB having such trouble getting people in and out of the station? In years past 2009 to say 2013/14 has DB been able to pump people out with no issues of stacking now all of a sudden (in the past 2 years) they are struggling to push trains out when the loose article policy for the ride has not changed. I think it has to do more with lackadaisical ride ops than people putting things away in bins. Or is it that the crew thinks DB isn't the marquee ride it was before Banshee therefore they don't need to move people along as they did in the past? I just don't understand the big difference between a couple of years ago and now. I agree fully with you. I don't make any extra purchases in the park due to the lack of bins on Banshee and pay lockers. I'd be much more likely to play games or get refillable cups if I had somewhere to stash them for free. I like that the lack of bins makes the line move faster. Personally I would like to see them adopt the free lockers for the ride line duration that parks like Universal and others have to stow stuff away. If you want a full day locker you have to pay for it, but just for waiting in line it's free. Then remove bins from most of the other big rides as well to help increase capacity on them too. I agree as well though that stacking is more an ops issue than a loose articles one with the bins. As stated Diamondback used to churn out riders a lot faster and had bins then as well. It's just been the last couple years it has lagged and started to stack a lot, and even now there are times where they get the trains dispatched quickly and avoiding stacking. However, removing the bins still removes one little bit of hold up and can get things moving quicker still. I also don't think putting in the free lockers would have a huge detriment to income for the park. It would result in fewer lockers actually being purchased but it would likely also result in an increase in sales elsewhere in the park where people like me and Joncars05 aren't purchasing things due to the rules.

Yea they have been the best we have had in a long time. Seems each of the new addition are better quality so hopefully this or another new one this year will be great.
-
No live animals? Guess Madame Fatale's didn't get that memo last year.
-
Hopefully they do something good if it is a pitch black maze. have been through a couple of them and they can be pretty dull. Suppose if you are claustrophobic or afraid of the dark it could be scary, but the ones I was in just felt more tedious trying to reach the end and never enough scare actors to jump out at you.

Cedar Point 2016 Talk
purdude86 replied to Bansheeback's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Not necessarily. The lift will likely be at an angle and not vertical. For instance if the length was 350' but at a 45 degree angle then the height would only be about 247'. Even if it was a 60 degree angle it would need to be the higher end to come to being a giga. the 315 range at a 60 degree lift would result in only a height of 281'. So pretty well guaranteed to be at elast a hyper, but unless it has a very steep lift it is probably not a giga. -
I think Peanuts is a great theme for the land as well since they are fairly timeless. The issue with all the prior incarnations was after so long they all become dated and forgotten. Peanuts is something that everyone knows and is familiar with in all generations, and are still around in advertisements and holiday specials throughout the year on tv and magazines to keep them in the public's eye. However, overall I don't think it make a huge difference for a place like Kings Island. The theming is pretty limited. It's mostly a few statues placed, the occasional character for photos, and names of the rides. It's not as if the rides themselves are themed out or animatronics on them and such. Aside from some ride changes is there really that much of a difference between Nickelodeon Universe and Planet Snoopy? Even to Hanna Barbara Land it's not that different, just some more drastic changes with rides between then and now.
-
I'd rather have a Peanuts dark ride replace Boo blasters and be more of a classic dark ride for families. Then put in a wicked, awesome dark ride in the old Action Theatre building., I think it could give a better ride than Crypt's building. Then use the Crypt building to put in a themed roller coaster similar to something like Mystery Mine at Dollywood to fit in with a mining theme for Rivertown.

Would love to go, have always had something come up the weekend of it and couldn't go. This year I just don't think i'll have the extra money to spend for the tickets that night. Have to make sure to get a trip to it next year. Have always heard it's a great time.
-
I'd hope more to the level of Madame Fatale's and Slaughterhouse. Those two are the best themed/looking mazes we have had. Wolf Pack is decent but not quite the same level. I like the concept of Board 2 Death and the maze itself but think the quality is along the lines of the average mazes throughout. Don't feel it is any higher quality than Urgent Scare or Delta Delta Die.

Nice video find TheBEASTunchained. Nice to see that some fo the effects we miss today weren't working back then either haha. Looks like the news hit the ride while there was some issue on the final lift hill.

AE is a lot of fun bu it is pretty jerky and if she was scared away from coasters after Big Thunder Mountain i'd probably avoid it until she rode some others and started to really like coasters.

As Marth said Bat usually has a short line so not much time to chicken out and it's a pretty smooth ride. BLSC would be my main suggestion to. It's not real big so shouldn't care her off but is very smooth and a lot of fun, and still has speed with the boosts without being real intense.
