Knotts Berry Farm - Voyage to the Iron Reef
purdude86 replied to Tuskin's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
That looks great. The additional scenery and sets really help enhance the ride. Good to see it isn't just screens in an empty room like WMG. Really hope we get something like this ride at KI -
Knotts Berry Farm - Voyage to the Iron Reef

Sounds good. Getting better response than Wonder Mountain's Guardian did. Can't wait to see some more pics and footage from the ride. Won't be able to get out there for a couple years probably -
Yea they've been advertising the ERT for tickets bought at a couple places here around Indy as well. Wasn't real thrilled to here it. Though the ads I've heard have only mentioned Banshee ERT and nothing about Planet Snoopy or Diamondback

Nintendo coming to Universal parks
purdude86 replied to marth555's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yea It has been improving greatly and they are really on a path to become major competition for Disney, more so than before. There isn't as much to do but the quality of their attractions are becoming high. And all of the IPs are really going to draw people in. Think their progression towards themed lands has been really helping it out as well. Islands o Adventure is a good park and the Harry Potter sections and Simpsons are all great. So many details and such. Do feel that the quality at Disney is much higher but Universal is still top notch. And the Harry Potter areas rival anything Disney has as well I feel. Hopefully this continues on with improvements and additions. Think once they have their own themed waterpark and potentially a third gate especially it will be a true vacation resort to spend a week at. That is still one major plus of Disney sit here is so much to do there with 4 theme parks, two water parks, the Downtown Disney area, two minigolf courses, golfing, spas, and all the resorts and pools that have stuff to experience. Universal has been improving Citywalk, tow great theme parks, mini golf, and some nice resorts. But their continual expansion should hopefully see a couple more resorts and additions to what they have now plus a water park and third gate eventually. -
I agree. With I305 already there a hyper wouldn't seem as major an addition. Though I305 seems to be more about speed and intensity (haven't been on it but just judging by POV videos so correct me if I'm wrong) whereas the hypers are usually airtime machines. So would still provide some variance. But think a wing coaster or flyer would give more variety. Feel like an inverted, while a great addition, would be a bit of a retread with having both Volcano and Dominator there already. A flyer or wing rider would just add a bit more variety for them than an inverted like Banshee did for us.

Nintendo coming to Universal parks
purdude86 replied to marth555's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Don't forget there is a strong chance that they are building their own themed water park as well. However, I agree with others that they have to keep things coming. Orlando is a very competitive market. Though I think they could go a little longer between attractions now. They have a strong line up but new rides are always a plus. -
Dollywood Suggestions/Tips
purdude86 replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Was thinking of making a trip there this year too, but was thinking of going for the Christmas season. What are the crowds like for it? -
I agree. As nice as it would be to have a front gate coaster I think it would ruin a little bit of the ambience of International Street. Plus as others have stated there isn't much room around there for it, and since they have just done work on the front gate building I don't see it coming down soon either.

This sounds like it should be good. I hope there are some good scenery and animatronics though. As great as some of their newer rides have been they are starting to rely a bit too heavily on 3d screens. Hope this one is better than the original though. I honestly thought it wasn't too good. Went down there when Islands of Adventure first opened and my whole family thought that park was great but the original park was kind of lackluster. Love it now with all of the new additions though. Kongfrontation was probably our least favorite attraction there at the time. Was glad to see Mummy take it's spot.

I don't think they need to take over the Boo blasters building. I agree that Voyage looks like it will be a SCOOP vehicle type ride with interactive elements. Whatever we get will probably be mostly screens as it allows them to change it up some or special events or make it feel newer. Though I'd hope there is some actual scenery. Don't need full animatronics but some set theming around the screens. The Universal ones are great and don't really have too much outside the screens that moves. It's mostly lighting effects and fog. The Action Theater building could house a dark ride like that as well. The Crypt building could hold something like WMG. Personally I would prefer something with the SCOOP type vehicles, they are fun and can be intense and allow more movement than just a quick coaster swoop and slowly passing by photos. Think Crypt building is perfect for a noninteractive dark/ride coaster hybrid though. Either a wild mouse or preferably a Eurofighter (similar to Mystery Mine at Dollywood).

Best Sounding Lift - Racer. Love the classic chain sound and when you have both going get double the sound. Best Launch Sound - Flight of Fear. The enclosed tunnel really enhances the sound and makes it louder. BLSC is more of a whirring sound that isn't real loud since it's all open. Best Sounding Ride - Beast. Can't beat the "roar" in the enclosed portions of the double helix.

The 9 best coasters near Detroit
purdude86 replied to rlentless's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Heck I don't know why Banshee wasn't on there in place of others like Thunderhawk. Banshee is definitely the superior invert between the two. -
Beast is my favorite attraction at night. But for overall area it's Coney Mall because of all the lights. Diamondback has the coolest rains. With the staggered seating no blocked views really and the snake head and fangs at the front are cool. Banshee has the best paint job and lighting package, though that's partly since its the newest. I really like the flickering chandeliers in the station and the eerie lighting around the tombstones. The paint is partly best just because it is fresh but I like the colors. I do like how the orange pops on The Bat so it'd be a closer contender as well. Beast's lighting, or lack of, is nice too. Hadn't thought much of it since there really isn't lighting but the lack of a lighting package is nice. I feel if they tried to do a lot of lighting on it through the run or lots of effects it could ruin the feel. The only thing I could think of that might be cool is in the middle of the run hearing a roar and a flash of orange through the trees. Like a sensor activated light just off from the tracks that pans a quick flash of orange through the trees for a Beast "sighting".

Of those options I think I'd prefer a giga. But something more like I-305 to be a bit more different than Diamondback. Think the wooden ones we've got give us a good mix, but would like to see an RMC style hybrid.

My family has bought into OKW and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Old Key West is a great resort and so is Saratoga (we stayed there each time when we had Animal Kingdom as they were always booked when we went. My parents did stay at it just themselves though and sai it was nice too.) The properties both have lots of space for families and there are kitchens in the rooms so half the time we would usually cool dinner or do lunch there to save money. Overall though I think I personally liked Saratoga Springs better, and it is connected via bridge to Downtown Disney so easy to just walk over there.

Immersive Dark Ride Planned For Kings Island?
purdude86 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
True but its also one of the few rides all parents/children can ride together and its air conditioned which helps in the heat. Maybe Im the outsider here but it doesnt/shouldnt be a haunted theme. If they go with Amusement Dark in Rivertown, then make it a light heartened fun experience in the Boo Blasters building. Maybe Im just old but maybe it should be more fun.... I agree. Every ride that has been there has been popular for it's run. It is the only dark ride in the park, accessible and has appeal to all, and sheltered with air condition for when you want to cool down or get out of the rain. Don't think it is Boo Blasters itself so much as the ride in general attracting the families and other guests. I agree with a mine themed coaster in the old Crypt building being perfect, though I think a Eurofighter would be better. Think something along the lines of Mystery Mine. Could even give it a haunted/cursed theme to carry over to rides not working out there and a Haunt attraction being in it now. Agree redo Boo Blasters to a new ride but rather a Peanuts one to fit that are better and make it officially be in Planet Snoopy and then give us our new Triotech dark ride in the old Action Theater building. -
Immersive Dark Ride Planned For Kings Island?
purdude86 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I agree with Spectrum and MaestroJr, I really don't want the omnimover system to leave the Boo Blasters building since it is inclusive to all and makes for great capacity too with constant moving and no real restraints to worry about checking. But it does need a new theme. Maybe the new Peanuts movie coming out will help spark more interest, and story, for the characters with kids and we can get a Peanuts dark ride to fit the area and still be something to appeal for all. -
I'm right there with you. About the same height, just under 6'4" so I can ride everything but if I grew anymore I'd be out of Delirium (which is one of my favorites) and I'm very close on Drop Tower too (which I enjoy a lot).

If they use that building for one I really hope it gets a theme to fit Rivertown. As great as TRTR was I always felt it stuck out in the middle of a western themed area having an Asian inspired jungle feel. It would be easy to retheme it as a mine. -
Rather than expanding Coney Mall itself they could just utilize that space along with the area that did have Snoopy's Starlight Spectaular to put in a few flats and perhaps even being back the Les Taxis (make an electric version that doesn't use has possibly). Then just make that all part of Internstional Street and be a hub around the base of Eiffel Tower. Utilizing the Tower Gardens space along with the grassy areas you get get multiple flat rides in there.
-
I enjoy the coaster too as hope it's back up. I just don't ride it a lot since the capacity is so low, rather ride other coaster than wait in te slow line for it. Though when the line is short I am all for a ride on it.
-
Der Spinning Keggers. A spinning teacup style ride is something missing from the park now, and it would help build Oktoberfest some too. Could go where the ladder game is, I think there's enough space there for a small flat like it.
-
I kind of like the open serene look of the pond there but a suspended coaster would like nice going out over the water. Think it could have looked nice if, as another poster suggested, they had the new rides on platforms over water and then could have extended the water to underneath Flying Ace Arial Chase. Though that might have taken a lot of work to dig out around all the footers and such to put a pond in, and a lot more maintenance.

Looks like you had a great time and the improvements I've seen in the pictures everywhere look great. I was very tempted to get some people to go on Saturday but had to work third shift Friday so probably would have crashed midday.
