Another thing about my Tuesday visit: Project 2017 or not, I am absolutely thrilled with the new WWC entrance and the wysteria tunnels. See also classic KI font on the clock, the tower topiary and the calendar. I am really hoping that with the 45th and 50th anniversaries coming up, Cedar Fair will continue to incorporate nostalgia elements back into the park. I'd love to hear more themed music and the return of "international" to IS. Oh, and my niece finally wanted to ride the Great Pumpkin Coaster, so guess who rode with her? haha

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
BeeastFarmer replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
I'm not a tree hugger, but I did not enjoy watching a nice big tree getting felled by heavy equipment. The operator kept swinging the scoop into it until it fell. -
Had a great day at the park yesterday. The only issue was the heat. No wait for food at RHOFG and quick service. Skyline on IS was to the door, but it actually went quickly, even with only a line person and a drink person. The drink person was actually speeding things up by going down the line to the desert station and taking drink orders and bringing them to the customers in line, greatly speeding up service. This is very encouraging to see!

A brief visit to the park Saturday night July 9

I haven't noticed screamers, but the loud music is annoying! -
Does anyone here know why they drained the slashdown pool on Diamondback? Looks strange without water when the train goes through it!

Re: the Snapchat image from above. Maybe it is a bone to KICentral from last year. There were picnic tables set up near DB and behind the International Showplace. (I think it was for one of the food festivals.) It was screenshotted from the webcam, and there was a brief discussion about flats or Les Taxis/Antique Cars returning to this area--if memory serves me well. -
And Storm Chaser... Wow! That ride is better than anything Kings Island has. My first RMC experience was everything I hoped it would be. I want one of those in Mason asap. Wow, I can't believe I am going to disagree with someone posting something positive on this thread! haha Storm Chaser is an awesome coaster. But, in my opinion, it does not touch The Beast or Diamondback. But it is like comparing apples to oranges I guess. After riding SC, a couple of enthusiast friends were discussing favorite coasters, and we all said that RMC needs to be in a different category by itself. (And they have been on many more coasters than I have!)

If I am in a bad mood, sad, or melancholy, I like to watch KI train videos. This is the best music in the park -
Glad you had a good time, and it was good to see you. The reason Storm Chaser was a one train operation was that they were replacing the wheels. It was interesting to watch as I was on the stairs. The new wheels are much better than the nylon wheels they were using last week--no weird vibration, much quieter, and it felt quicker on the helix at the end. Also, where the dragsters were, I would venture a guess there will be some flats there next year. The "Fun Under Construction" signs were a nice touch, but should either put up a wooden fence or clean up the area because it doesn't look good. But I am glad the pathway is open.

I just became an enthusiast a couple of years ago, but I missed most of the Paramount era. I lived out west for most of it. I do remember coming home on vacation and going to KI, and it did feel like a giant commercial most of the time. However, I think it would have been fun to have been an enthusiast back then. Jeff Siefert and Maureen Kiser seemed pretty fun-loving, at least by the videos I have seen on Youtube.

Cedar Point help

Kings Island. I've ridden 3 times, all in the 9:00 position if you face the tower. (I think it is seats 23 or some thing like that). Other areas, I have have to do the walk three times as well. -
I don't remember that at KI, but I did hear it at Carowinds last week.

Cedar Point help

The only issues I had at CP was with the seatbelts on Mean Streak and Blue Streak. I just couldn't get them buckled even though there was plenty of length. MF and TTD--I'm 6'2" and 240lbs. I got these without issues, but the seatbelts are very short. I've only had to do the walk of shame on Drop Zone. And that doesn't happen if I am in one of the middle seats facing the parking lot/Motel 8. -
i have only been there one time (last week) but here is what I observed: I-Street/Entry Plaza: Instrumental/movie scores/"European" music. This extended down the long pathway behind the tower. However, once the sun set, the light show started and this area was immersed in techno/dance club music. Old Virginia: Country-ish music--guitars and banjos. Candy Apple Grove-50's/60's and 80's-00's pop music. Safari Village-Congo-type music, but at times it sounded Haunt music as noted in my previous post. Walkway to Dominator-pop music. All of the music was upbeat, but just themed to its' area. Also, most of the speakers I saw were ground level and blended into the landscape. The volume was set so it enhanced the experience rather than drown out the experience. KD was a very nice park. Besides being a mirror image of KI, and the associated moments of confusion, it reminded me of the KI I remember as a youth. If you can take the time, go.

Are these slides causing skin breaks? If so, the park should be notified because blood in water, even in small amounts, is not a good thing.

Kings Dominion has appropriate music for its' themed areas. (However, some of the music in Safari Village almost sounds like Haunt music!) Carowinds has wonderful instrumental music playing in the plaza outside the front gate. Cedar Point has appropriate music for its' Rivertown/Western area (sorry, I can't remember the name of this area.) As much as I like the 80's music that plays at KI, it would be nice to have thematic music on I-Street and Rivertown again...and not turned up so loud! It's hard to hear the ones you are there with.

Had a great time at the Storm the Kingdom event yesterday. Got to ride all the coasters and flats even though the wet and dry side were insanely busy. Storm Chaser has gone through four sets of wheels so far, so they had to temporarily use nylon wheels, which give your rear end a weird vibrating feeling (when it is in the seat). It also makes the coaster loud, and seems slower to me than the other time I had been to the park this season.

Magenta Lizard, this is for you! I saw Cirque Imagine at Kings Dominion on Tuesday and Carowinds on Thursday. At KD, the emcee pronounced the title "EEEMAHJEAN" This KD show was really good; the bike guy was the same one from KI last year. The bike guy at Cwinds was good, but seemed unsure of himself at times. The performers at Cwinds, I recognized from KI were two of the "clowns"-they guy who gets the girl, and the tall one. The other "clown" was a female. (KD had a female clown too). The black and white performers, I recognized most of them too. KD had the act with the red bowling pin juggle, Cwinds had the ring. Both locations had some added acts that were great. Cwinds theater is smaller with a lower ceiling, so instead of the clowns coming from the ceiling, they had a metal track that went from the back of the theater, from the ceiling, almost like a zipline. Both parks were not crowded (coaster waits were almost like ERT at Coasterstock, for example, I was able to ride Fury 325 4 times in 29 minutes!) but at KD, there were only maybe 75 members of the audience, and they were not very active. Cwinds, on the other hand, had a packed audience, and they were most certainly into it! Clapping, oohing and awing. I even saw some people crying at points.

Sorry, I should have clarified. 71 to 264. That will save you the headache of driving through downtown Louisville and the construction zone.
-
You will hit alot of construction if you stay on the 71 freeway. I come in on 64 and take 264. By the way, I still owe you for the RHOFG from last summer. If you let me know what day you will be at KK, and if I am not working, I'd be happy to meet you to pay you back!

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
BeeastFarmer replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
On my LOOONG drive to Kings Dominion today, this thought entered my head: Former Coasters at KI and new coasters since Cedar Fair now owns the company that owns Kings Island: Former Coaster: King Cobra. CF Coaster: Diamondback. Both snakes. Former Coaster: Screamin' Demon. CF Coaster: Banshee. According to the FUN TV trivia, Banshee comes from an Irish folklore tale, and she is SCREAMIN' right before someone dies. I can't, however, tie Firehawk to Galaxie. -
Ride spieling thoughts?
BeeastFarmer replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm at Kings Dominion, and rode Grizzly tonight. It had autospiel. Terrible! ALL of the ride operators looked bored out of their mind and were talking over the autospiel. Things like: "I done told you the train be locked!" while the autospiel is spouting off about securing loose articles. -
This governor certainly is tearing things up from the root--of long established party politics. It will be interesting to see when/how/if this plays out at Kentucky Kingdom. I still don't think he would do something that would cause the closure, but stranger things have happened!
