  1. So we are now promoting the fact that the ride is shorter and has less capacity than the ride it harkens back to. Wonderful way to communicate how great the ride is! Also, this is nitpicking, but Sol Spin is not where Skylab is. Skylab was to the south, roughly in the area of the Coke Marketplace and basketball game is iirc. Flying Dutchman was roughly in Sol Spins plot. Our communication director really knows and applies his history!
  2. Did they rehire dick kinzel? While other industries do this, it's usually for cruises or tours, not a $40 ticket to an amusement park. Guess holiday world and Kentucky Kingdom will be see increases in attendance when people find out Cedar Fair will not allow you to choose a different day...but hey, they already have your money!
  3. Made my day! I know people give you a hard time but I'm glad you can laugh about it.
  4. For all the Matarese fans out there...
  5. All I know is that each day I have been this year, it's not been busy the vast majority. We all love those rain days when the park is empty, but that is not sustainable. Generally, addition is better than subtraction. So if (insert reason here) Kings Island is down by 20000 guests the week of June 7, what can we do immediately to get attendance up? What can we plan for the next few weeks? How can we reach more people with Grand Carnivale? That's the job of an effective Communication Director. Don has not said if he retired, moved to a job with Buc-Ees, or anything. That's his prerogative. But it reeks of corporate jealousy and sabotage. Who's next? Mike Koontz? I'm not saying people are throwing others under the bus, but when times are bad, people will do bad things.
  6. Antique Autos were a modest investment. Besides enthusiasts, many people loved it. And I got a flyer about it in the mail. It pulled the nostalgia string. Much like the 2 new flats harken back to nostalgia. The whole thing was bungled from Choads end. When attendance started to slip, he should have been reaching out to markets away from Cincinnati to bring people in. These are the once a summer people who will spend money and some will stay at places like camp cedar...but because of that fiasco, Cedar Fair will not make a dime. And about overhyping...a good campaign is not just about what's new, but it's about your favorites. Granny might like to come watch the Enterprise and barrels to think back, but she also might want to take a ride on the flume and enjoy the view from the tower. So while Choad is not responsible for lowered attendance directly, he bares a large burden because he is not getting the word out there.
  7. But Disney and universal have other businesses in their portfolio to soften that blow. Cedar Fair and their peer group don't. I do think that a competent Communication Director would be a major part of the solution in regards to weather, wildfire smoke and the other issues you mention: Get guests in the turnstiles to enjoy world class indoor shows during this heat and haze. We acknowledge that things are challenging with behavior today, that's why we have implemented the chaperone policy and publicize our security number. We want everyone to have a safe, good time.... I'm no wordsmith, but that is the job of one...to turn a negative into a positive and get more people in the park. When your #1 guy isn't doing anything to drive attendance
  8. If only we had a competent Communication Director who could have, well, communicated about Adventure Port. Yes, it might have been last minute. Yes, it might have been delayed. But overall it was a great overhaul. But, besides social media posts, it was not promoted well inside the greater Cincinnati area and not at all in other markets outside of the Cincy area. Instead of working with some of the parks biggest fans, Choad wants to scurry up and shew Brad away from an interview with the park GM . But at least he didn't want to try and grab a selfie with the park GM! The chaperone policy, even if directed by corporate, could have been spun in a way to drive attendance if we had a good wordsmith doing his job. Instead, it was silence. Maybe Choad was too busy snapping selfies with security? Because he is either not doing his job, or does not know how to do his job, he should be at the quarterly report for his role in the horrible attendance numbers that will be reported. I don't think he will want to take selfies with the unit holders!
  9. I don't think so. In 2-3 years it will be forgotten. A special event..think the grand carnivale of soccer, would probably be the ticket.
  10. I like your stylized "C". I know you likely didn't that on purpose, but it looks pretty awesome.
  11. Or the O is for a full loop on OhiO!
  12. @FUN&ONLY! I understand. But what I fail to understand is that given these issues, Choad was bragging on Twitter that KI had a wait-list for employees. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out you will have attrition. So those potential employees would go elsewhere. Now with all the people who have left because of those cut hours, the park will suffer on busy days. If there are any busy days this year because apparently, getting the message out is a low priority for him.
  13. What a missed opportunity that Cedar Fair had with Camp Cedar. Have you noticed just how much the place has done since not being managed by Kings Island? They have events, they publicize themselves and seem to set themselves up for success. For a company that runs sucessful resorts like Breakers, Sawmill and even partners withKOA at Kings Dominion, when you have an incompetent person like Chad at the helm, dollars are lost. Coupled with the fact that Don is no longer at KI, I have serious concerns about the future. Most of my visits have been very low crowd days. Granted, I go during the week, but I do look at webcams at work on the weekend and it looks like low crowds. Why is our communication director not doing what he can to boost attendance by putting Kings Island on the radar? As I've said before, Dollywood and Kentucky Kingdom spokespeople are on new broadcasts in Lexington and Louisville. Nobody is talking about KI around here... except me.
  14. It seems our communication director likes to hide as often as he can, or take a selfie to take credit for someone else's work. I don't understand, for the life of me, how he can get away with this. Was he this bad at his job when he worked for Herschend at the Newport Aquarium? At least you had an opportunity to have a private discussion, the Choad blocked me
  15. AKeep the ride as is as far as layout. Put new shells on the train. Whatever theme is chosen, get rid of the billboards, police cars, shipping containers and excessive rip rap. Install landscaping. Reconfigure the entrance plaza. Move the basketball game somewhere else and move the flyers from Snoop to their old location even though they're not the same ones. Come up with a master plan for the entire area... That would include the future Vortex replacement. Or just leave it as is until it reaches the end of its service life and remove it and read the entire area between the Eiffel Tower and The Vortex walkway.
  16. It wasn't open when I was there in late May, but were told you have to have a child to ride.
  17. Don did a great job and really focused on developing people. Look at what's happening with Kings Dominion and Don's protege, Kyle. Chad can't communicate his way out of a paper bag. He just likes to take selfies in front of the work of other people. I'm very concerned about the future of our park. I live 2.5 hours away in a key market for KI since inception. As far as buzz talk from media, it's radio silence. There is no hype. Social media feeds were the only avenue. Other parks have regular guest appearances on local TV. If you ain't growing, you're dying.
  18. Fascinating observation! I never thought of that. I wonder which I'd rather have...kimvrr or Les Taxis/Livery Company. They'd pretty up the park, but there's just something about a train.
  19. That means more employees stationed to monitor the ride. Having a compact footprint frees that up. Plus, this used a dead spot that really needed attention. It adds midway interest too. I'm surprised that Kings Dominion still has a long drawn out antique car attraction winding thru the woods. It sure is purty.
  20. The specialty foods have not been on the meal plan iirc. I think they want to sell food tasting tickets. But...some of the menu items have later returned as standard menu items, such as perogies.
  21. We got our tickets from ACE/Tickets at Work partnership. We got 2 days, Collective Soul concert Saturday night included, for $66.24. $33.12 per day was a great deal! Park food was around the $18 mark but they did let you have any size cup for ice water, not the small plastic cup you get at CF parks. It might have been a fluke since it was miserably hot and humid. It was my first time at BGW and I look forward to returning someday. Highlights for me were Verbolten, Darkoaster and Lock Ness Monster. Invadr took me by surprise in a good way. Entertainment wise, Burgerneister's Hideaway was outstanding. Have a great trip. Auf Wiedersehen!
  22. Food...if you like seafood, check out Fat Tuna Grill in Williamsburg We had a great meal there.
