Coaster Campout 2016

Featured Replies

Carowinds is doing theirs on May 6th and 7th. I want to do it but I also have other things I want to do(actually need to do), at the moment I expect tickets to sell out before I will know if I can do the Carowinds Campout.

The extra night hours at Coney Mall would be cool though. I love seeing it lit up.

Wonder how they will enforce non-campers leaving the park at 10?

"New this year! Campsites will be located behind the Eiffel Tower, near Diamondback."

Well, that makes me much more likely to go than when it was in Picnic Grove last year. It is a little more tempting, but at effectively $100 each for my husband and I, plus needing to scrounge up a tent, etc. I'm probably going to have to donate through other means this year. It sounds like a lot of fun for those who are able to do it, though!

From the Carowinds event page:

10:00PM - 11:30PM

Exclusive ride time on Fury 325 and Drop Zone

Drop Zone? What's that? ;)

Non-campers wouldn't have the event credential necessary to participate in activities or to remain in the park after closing.

Also interesting from the Carowinds page is that Crabbie Cabbie (apparently the Carowinds equivalent of Great Pumpkin Coaster) will operate without the max height restriction for the first hour. Gotta let those enthusiasts grab those rare kiddie coaster credits :P

Seems they learned a few things from last year, but are repeating some mistakes.  In looking at CP and CW's events, more features are available.  Meals, ERT etc.  There is a good cause in the end, but I will give the equivalent to another charity.  Since it's on a weekend, I can't go anyway, even if I wanted to.

The park's mobile and desktop sites are entirely separate, and links to specific pages on the desktop site redirect to the mobile website's homepage if viewed on a mobile device.

To stop the redirection, and view a page from the desktop site on your mobile device, append ?mobile=0 to the URL. So, https://www.visitkingsisland.com/events/things-to-do/events-and-promotions/Coaster-Campout-7-28-15-45?mobile=0

I think the only way I would be interested is if they had the campout in the woods next to The Beast and the night rides were on it from 12-1. It is for a good cause but it just doesn't interest me.

Not available as part of the event.

I'd venture to guess that the shower trucks were underutilized during the (free) trial event in 2014 at Cedar Point.

just go get on White Water Canyon for a few spins with some soap, you'll be alright!

Well, Soak City opens at 11 that Sunday, so one could potentially use those showers then. Since admission is only included for Sunday (and ERT Saturday night) I guess they aren't expecting people will sweat all day Saturday and want a shower before bed.

Well, this is an improvement.  I think having the flat rides open for ERT is a good family move, but the lack of a marquee attraction for ERT is a negative.  Diamondback and Banshee aren't open for the late night or early morning ERT.

So, Cedar Point has released the details on their camp out.  it is June 5th and 6th (Sunday and Monday right after Coastermania).  The timing is a bit weird, but the benefits seem to trump Kings Island's event.

The Cedar Point event includes admission for both days (vs just 1 day at KI), and an evening meal.  It also has ERT on Maverick, Millennium Force, and Valravn.  I guess KI's event is more catered towards families with season passes?

This is happening tomorrow night. Anyone from here going?

(There's still time to buy a ticket. Sales end at midnight tonight.)

I was going to go to this one with a couple of my friends, before we decided the Cedar Point one would be more interesting, since we get to go there less.  But then the storm came and it got cancelled...

Plans were foiled.

Looking at the Diamondback cam this morning, there appears to be around a dozen tents out there.  May be more off camera.  Did anyone from here go?

With the same bottle of shampoo he's used since the early 80's

I wonder what the turn out ended up being for the camp out this year.  Maybe the same as the previous year?  Or a little better due to the better camping location?

It was announced that the event raised more than $12,000.

That would be 60+ campsites at $200 each, with each campsite including up to 4 guests.

The turnout sucked last year because they announced it like 2 weeks before it happened.
