Accident/Derailment on Manhattan Express

There was an accident on the Manhattan Express today while testing the new cars. The train had a rollback and derailed on the lift hill. 

I don’t think the coaster can be saved, as it appears the damage is quite extensive.

Well I found the original post on twitter about this since it was not included in your thread.

I have no idea how you are saying the lift hill is tilting. It looks like the stairs are bent and the track piece where it stopped was damaged. 

The total exaggeration and over dramatization is totally not needed.

I agree. Looks like a very fixable problem. Appears the wheel assembly came off and caused the train to hit the stairs and bend them.

The lift hill is not "leaning" or even anywhere near critical damage. One of the brackets holding the stairs is bent, and at worst, one piece of track needs repair.

I think the problem here is more of the trains than the actual ride. The ride structure itself can likely easily be fixed after this incident. The real problem is the new trains and whatever caused them to derail. They need to figure out what went wrong with the trains in order to get the ride back open. Hopefully these new Premier Rides trains can function as intended and stay on The Big Apple Coaster, improving the rough ride experience.

Yep, definitely not much structural issues to be noted here besides the catwalk.

Can't believe this coaster is 23 years old on its third set of trains.

Also, @gforce1994, where did you hear the train rolled back? I'm not denying it all I heard was one car partially derailed on the lift hill.

From the photos, it appears to be a rollback because the front wheel assembly of one car ended up jammed under the back wheel assembly of the car in front of it. If it had just failed, the front car’s wheel assembly would have fallen back.

I’m wondering if the chain snapped or lost tension, and the anti rollbacks didn’t engage quickly enough.

Or, the back wheel assembly had failed somewhere throughout the ride layout and eventually jammed up on the lift hill. The operator watching the train on the cameras could've seen the catwalk bend and E-stopped the ride, or a maintenance person watching from the lift could've radioed in to the operator to stop the lift. Just another theory.

Does anyone have a photograph of this new train? Curious what the restraints are like. If it wasn’t for those weird shoulder harnesses, the ride would be pretty good.

Judging based on pictures, it looks like it will be the standard Premier Rides trains with Comfort Collars like what can be found on the new Skyrocket II’s and West Coast Racers. If you zoom in at the top of the trains, you can see the strap for the Comfort Collars.

Thanks, @Sixflags82 + @FUN&ONLY!! Those look A LOT better than the previous trains. Still, I'm a bit surprised they're investing so much into it. Although, with how much it costs to ride and the fact that it's such a tourist attraction—it probably still makes the casino a decent amount of money. 

I've been on this ride twice (both times in the front) and found it to be... pretty good. That roll into the half loop is fun. Thought it was all very intense more so than rough. But, I was sitting in a decent seat. 

Fun Fact: It's my understanding that ride was designed in TOGO's former suburban Cincinnati offices and I believe the steel was arranged in this area too before being shipped to Vegas.

Testing has begun again.  I have not seen closeup pictures of the lift yet so no clue how much work was done.  But I have seen videos of the trains cycling.

Still wondering exactly how this accident occurred.  I believe the train had to be traveling backwards for the front wheel assembly of the third car to end up under the car in front of it.  But I have since seen high resolution photos of the lift with the train stuck on it and the chain is clearly intact.  So I am still a little confused on what initially broke.

I am fairly certain I got a concussion from that ride, but I rode in the back last March.
