Soak City will be open but with reservations

Just got the email that Soak City will be open this year.

Interesting note is that you must make reservations....unlike the rest of the park.

Dear Valued Passholder, It's here - the countdown to opening day at Kings Island is on and we can't wait to welcome you back when the park opens in May! To start the opening of the 2021 season, reservations will be required for all guests visiting Soak City Water Park. Online reservations will open to Season Passholders on April 26 at 10:30 AM. You will need a reservation for each passholder visiting Soak City every time you plan to visit. Reservations are required to visit Soak City, but not required to visit the amusement park.

I have a feeling this is because of how difficult it would be to have a strict mask requirement that isn't that confusing so they may not require masks in SC. However, that means they'd have to limit capacity a lot more because social distancing would be twice as important and strict. I also expect you to only be allowed to enter through the main Soak City gate. However, I think the train will still be running for those who want to ride back to the main park or just ride the train like last year.

If one is  a strict mask-wearer, I could not see much of a desire to visit the waterpark this year.  A waterpark , without mask use, seems akin to covid-kazi.

So, for the ones who are laissez-faire about mask usage, they can hop on the KI&MV RR and  go to the drypark, happily and (potentially) spreading Covid-19 all along the way.

Then again,  parks in the SIX chain, HW and KK have dry and waterparks intermingled and have had no cases traced back to waterpark or drypark admission.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the chlorine water was supposed to kill Covid?

There is far more than just chlorine in that water, the water you swim in is very clean and has enough chemicals already.  I can't say for sure, but most of the chemicals probably combat the virus.  

Knowing SC LG's I wouldn't be surprised if they do some extra work on the slide complexes which tend to get the most grime. (Looking at you Trop Twist and Pine) Also, would not be surprised if they did more work on the mats they renovated a little while back. As per the mask situation, I haven't been to a park with masks in use for actively scanning lifeguards yet but I would be very interested in how they can operate with masks as scanning usually entails saving eventually. 

I'm personally going, I miss my home for the weekends.

This is awesome news!  I can't wait to float lazily in the river.  As for the masks, A combination of UV rays and chlorine should suffice for protection.  Everyone is aware of the risk (though I believe it to be way less than many would have us think).  Make your own decision.  I wear a mask where it is required but I feel no less safe when I've been at bars, casinos, and resorts that have not required it.  Before they were vaxxed i always got tested before seeing my parents or grandma, but I think our health should be our own perogative at this point rather than never ending mandates.  I am no doctor or expert though.

Cedar Point and Carowinds have just announced reservations are required for their dry parks as well. I wonder if the dry side of King's Island will do so as well. Cedar Fairs one reservation at a time policy makes it hard to plan any multiday trip and other large parks like Dollywood and Hershey allow at least 3 in a row.

Do you have a source that they're back to doing that?  As last season progressed, one could have multiple reservations for Cedar Point at a time.  I see nothing about a limit of active reservations in the email they sent out today about reservations opening up next Monday.

I do not but Carowinds did have a 1 reservation policy in place for their Christmas tasting event last year. I just assumed this year would start out the same way.

Apparently next Monday, April 26, Cedar Fair is going to release their new 2021 COVID-19 protocols according to Cedar Point (I assume Kings Island will follow the same protocols). Those will be interesting to see. I am hoping for no empty rows this year!

I wonder how the train and walkway from the dry park will work with Soak City requiring reservations. Hopefully Kings Island will still allow guests to enter and exit Soak City from the dry park, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they only allowed people to enter by the main Soak City gate.

That I am not sure of.  But my point was that it will be impossible to effectively wear a mask in a waterpark.  The standard masks will disintegrate, N95s are not effective when moist/damp/wet.  So if an asymptomatic carrier is in the park, shedding the virus, s/he will do so unknowingly.  Vaccinated people can still contract the virus and shed it (they just will recover quicker and likely have less long term effects).

And then there is the fact that water rides/attractions/pools naturally cause mucus secretion/spitting out of water---does not seem like a place someone who is concerned with the virus would want to be.  (and yes, I know the treated water should neutralize the virus  and bacteria from the mucus/salivaa/other biohazardous body fluids, but it is still gross to me! LOL)

When do pools open? Is it safe to swim during the pandemic? (ajc.com)

Every study shows pool chlorine kills covid very quick. Virtually all science has concluded masks are not needed outside whatsoever. The Slate, Washington Post...some of the most liberal journals in American society have confirmed this. This doesn't even take into account the efficacy of those vaccinated.

No way they are selling Fast Lane again and not filling all trains.  I think you're safe here.

Kings Island sold Fast Lane last year later in the season. I am also curious to see what changes Kings Island has made to other protocols, if any.

I don't see why they wouldn't at least try and use every row when most other chain parks have dropped the every other row thing unless it's prohibited by the state.

Except in CA. Interested to see what they will be doing at Great America in Illinois.

Edit: I just watched Parks Bros new vlog from Magic Mountain from today. They are starting to fill trains on some coasters as well.
