Lightning Rod at Dollywood Update

Recommended Posts

This is good news. On my visit this year, I rode it first thing since it was open and I knew of the issues with downtime. Wouldn't you know, shortly after we rode, it was down until late afternoon/early evening when we circled back and rode it again. My other issue with LR is how incredibly slow the line moves. Not sure if it's inefficient operations or what else it could be, but that line sits still nearly as bad as Mystery Mine Ride.

I really do not see this having much of a negative impact on the ride experience. The launch was far from the best part of the ride.

They said in the video that the high speed chain is being designed so the train goes over the first hill at the same speed that it did when it was launched. Everything after the launch, including the quad down, should remain the same after the transition.

Originally the launch went up to the top of lift hill right? Then it got changed to about 3/4 of lift hill was launch with a coast over the crest. If the high speed chain lift is actually high speed then this change could be an upgrade.

I'm fairly sure the LSMs have always covered the ~3/4ths of the launch they currently do. They've just been tweaked over the years to launch more slowly.

According to Dollywood they have not changed the launch speed, it is the same today as it was on opening day, it was never turned down.  The launch only covering 3/4 of the hill is where a lot of impression comes from.  You can feel the train stop accelerating and start slowing once your past the LSM’s as you coast up the hill.

The coast up over hill was a bummer when I rode it. Still stand by my thoughts that the chain lift could be an upgrade.

This!! The way they merge the TimeSaver and General line is what I think holds it up. They don't "pulse the station," filling the individual row queues like they should. Part of the problem I think is that they merge below the station floor so they have to walk up the stairs to see if there is enough room to let the next groups go through (at least that's how it was on my last visit).
