Photo #29 - The Bat - Station - Notice how the transfer track was on the front of the station thus a train never had to go backwards to be taken on or off the circuit. The station and drive box still exist today as Vortex.7 points

I'm not going to name any names, but when my brother's class had their 8th grade trip to KI, one kid's parents were so strict, they wouldn't allow him to go, because school was for studying, not trips and fun. We all liked him, he was a great person, and the smartest kid in school. The eighth grade homeroom teacher took him anyway, he went to the park still in his school uniform, and at three o'clock, the teacher and he left in time for him to be back at the school for his parents to pick up. From what I understood, the parents never found out. I learned something important from him that day. The other kids were staying til the fireworks, but he had to leave early. They asked if that bothered him. He said it didn't, that you enjoy things more when you know you have a limited amount of time. I live by that credo.7 points

Posted on Screamscape, this early POV of Tomb Raider: The Ride appears to be include most of the original effects and the spectacular lighting and even the sparker! For those here who never got a chance to ride it and always wondered what the Crypt "used to be," check it out.5 points

It will probably be a LONG time before a ride delivers what TR:TR did in 02 for me. The queue line; never seen anything so well themed, actually felt like you were on the other side of the world, just for those moments waiting for the unknown. Walking in and seeing all those rows of seat and restraints, it was just something I've never seen before. If you tried to look around to see what was in the building, heh, good luck with that, they had the lighting perfectly aimed so the only thing you could see were the arms & the gondola. The music so loud you couldn't even hear yourself think. Your heart beat matching the drums on the soundtrack. Once you pulled down your restraint, take a relaxing deep breath, you would look around, then you would see water dripping, just sprinkles of it every second, you would look up to see where its coming ,but can't see the ceiling due to the perfectly placed lighting. Once everyone was buckled in, you knew you were in for a once in a lifetime ride. The 2 blazing sun lights suddenly turn off, now you're in complete darkness and the restraints tighten, you know its about to start. Well as you watched the video, you can fill in the rest. You were extremely lucky to ride TR:TR when everything was working. Some of us are extremely lucky. *will fill more of this in later , off to dinner!*5 points

Looks like Don was telling the truth when he answered Woodstock Gliders @ Carowinds to be his favorite Cedar Fair owned ride outside of Kings Island.5 points

Haw! I like that they have this adult in the kiddy ride on the webpage. Couldn't they find a photo of winsome children? Edit: That's Don looking so pensively into the middle distance as if he were Columbus discovering a new world in his Woodstock Glider? More Haw.4 points

I was in grade school in the 80s and we took field trips probably every month or two! I remember going to the zoo, camping trips,KI,museums, local parks, even remember going to a pizza place and a movie once.Geeze, kids dont get to do nothing anymore, its sad. I didnt grow up rich either,my school district was below average as far as finances, but we had fun going to school and was rewarded well when we achieved good grades.4 points

I can remember eating there alot when it was the Bier Garden. I wouldn't want to eat because I wanted to ride and could see the Bayern Curve just across the way. Boy when that thirty minutes of letting my food digest was up, I was off and running, straight to the Bayern.4 points

http://www.nytimes.com/1983/05/15/us/death-at-graduation-party.html Obviously a lot more to it than that. He was intoxicated (despite being underage), had entered a restricted area of the tower, and allegedly tried jumping onto an elevator car. His body was found on top of one.3 points

When I was in 6th grade, we didn't go to Kings Island, when I went to the 7th grade, they decided to let 6th graders go. Talk about annoyed -__-3 points

Well, this may have just made our decision for us whether we do Coasting for Kids at KI or CP. I love marathoning Diamondback, but if GatorGirl does the event, then we just may have to go to CP. She just reached 50" for our Dollywood trip in November, so she got to ride Wild Eagle for the first time. I'm not sure that she would grow another 4" to reach DB's minimum height by June 9th. It's possible, I guess, but I think unlikely. If CP does Magnum & Gemini again (their website doesn't have the event up yet), GatorGirl can do those, as those are 48". It says registration begins in mid-February, but we may just have to wait a little to see if we think she might reach 54".3 points

I remember taking a field trip back in elementary school to KI to ride the monorail through the wild animal habitat. We didn't stay to ride any of the rides, we just went to see the animals. Now that was a long time ago!3 points

My goodness. You could never do something like that now. That is opening yourself up to too many potential lawsuits. If the teacher did do it recently, and the parents ever find out, its his licensure for sure...3 points

My girlfriend took me to Holiday World for my first time last May for my birthday. I said hello to Pat as we walked in and she was very friendly. Later in the day, my girlfriend and I were getting our free drinks when Pat came up to us and just struck up conversation like we were old friends of hers. She asked us how long we had been together and if we had ever visited before. My favorite part of our conversation was when she asked where we were from. When I told her Lima was about five hours away she actually got emotional. She thanked us for traveling such a far distance to visit their "little family park," and was thankful for fans of the park like us. You could tell how proud Pat was of their park. What a great person. I'm sad she has to go through this.3 points

In 4th grade we took 5, yes 5, trips to the Neil Armstrong museum. I think one would have been enough!3 points

once we had a school trip take use to Rumpkee.. No joke... rode around in a school bus and looked at dump.... however I did learn about methane release...3 points

Wow, you are in 6th grade? There are a lot of members on this site that are super young, and surprise me with how decent their posts are. I don't want to think what my posts would have been like at 6th grade.3 points

Maybe we will all show up for opening day and there will be a Flying Eagles ride as a surprise. Edit: I spell like I talk.3 points

I believe the park is removing the water tower to make way for something to return....something that hasn't been seen since the offseason that Diamondback was constructed....the Trailer Tower of KIC3 points

A locked backflip over the top (after the goddess wakes up), a forward flip (down from the icicles - you can see how you fall toward the triangle), a locked flip out from the lava pits that released halfway up, then a final locked flip back around to the start position, from my recollection.2 points

The music made the ride and the music made it the intense fun thrill it was,,,2 points

Geez, I much more understand everyone's frustration with the "downsizing" of the ride. That looked AMAZING!!!2 points

Gatekeeper is not only going to be a thrilling attraction, but it is also going to improve the entrance of the park. It is sure to be a spectacular ride while on it, and watching it on the midway. Sometimes a coaster does more than just add to the coaster count.2 points

Thanks so much for The Beast photos with the water! The station was so very different with all that - right down to the ripples in the pond that happened as The Beast rolled out of the station. Too cool.2 points

^I did the same thing in elementary school. None of the other rides were open, only the monorail, and of course we learned about the animals. Come to think of it, that was my first of many, many times being in the park when it's closed.2 points

In my system, most of the trips don't exist anymore. In 4th grade we went to Sea World, In 6th to GoodTimes (a go cart and putt putt place), and in 8th grade to Geauga Lake's (sfwoa in my day). All of those places no longer exist. Maybe it was a good thing my physics teacher canceled our trip to CP my senior year (he realized we all had passes).2 points

Anyone else feel like we're going to show up at the park in April and something besides Thunder Alley and Son of Beast will be missing? That's all the more sense I can make of this diversion stuff.2 points

Okay. An old thread. Well worth reading. From post one. Especially NOW. Hmmm. Must choose words (and paths) carefully. An interesting....diversion. Even some....cross threading. For every post like this, there is a reason. A lot can be learned from careful reading of this old thread, and not just by coaster and park fans. Especially now. Two paths lie ahead. Only one will be chosen. And that will make all the difference for years ahead. Which way? One way chosen. One not. A diversion. Yes, a diversion. And how. Well underway. A work...in progress. The best in fun, now playing....out, over time.2 points

It'll be better. I can't wait to ride it. One might say I'm craving it. Crypt, who cross threads here and there.2 points

I would agree with those words. I was summoned to Jury duty back at the end of November, and I went into it wishing my name had not been selected. But getting placed on a jury and witnessing the judicial process at work was eye opening. I would recommend people serve on jury duty and not try to dodge it. I certainly had a fun time on it, and would gladly serve again if my name is selected.1 point

Terp, you know a lot more about law and about this case than I do, so I'm inclined to respect your opinions on the matter. Bear with me as I ramble on a bit and play a devil's advocate on both sides, to try to understand this better. Taking a step back with the Kroger analogy, suppose they have a system error that causes all items to ring up at a 17% discount off the marked prices. If you realize this before they do, do you have the right to insist that the implied contract of sale be upheld? Going a bit further, suppose you change the dates on a hypothetical 17%-off-everything coupon, so that you can use it after it has expired. If Loss Prevention realizes this as you push your cart out of the store, would they have to uphold the agreed-upon sale? (Furthermore, if you proposed to remedy the situation by simply paying back the 17%, would the store have to accept this?) My point here is that if a mistake or misrepresentation prevents a "meeting of the minds" at the time a contract is formed, it can* be rendered void. Back to your argument: what is odd in this specific case is that, from the news reports, the contract seems to have been voided based on the actions of Dan and KDC after Will's death. Going back to the Kroger scenario, suppose you take your modified 17% coupon to Customer Service after the sale and ask for a price adjustment. In that case, Loss Prevention certainly wouldn't have the right to void the sale or repossess your previously purchased groceries. As best I can tell, the successful argument in this case was that Dan never attempted to fully follow his obligations in the contract, by way of undervaluing the shares. Based on this, perhaps the judge concluded that there was insufficient intent when the contract was entered, making this more similar to the first or second Kroger scenario. In any case, whether the logic applies to the facts, and whether the findings of fact were indeed valid, is now a question for the appellate court. ("intent" here is of course murky; no one intended Will's untimely death.) There are obviously two sides to this, and a final decision has yet to be issued, but I do tend to respect the opinion of a court over my own feelings in the matter. Let's all hope that there can be peace and that both sides receive what is rightfully theirs - be it in form of cash, shares in KDC, control of the company, or other consideration. Best comment in this thread so far! We are all lacking an understanding of the facts, feeling an emotional or personal connection, or (like me) both. When parties are unable to reach an equitable resolution, it's great that we have an impartial** court system. I certainly feel bad for the Koch family members (on both sides) and Holiday World employees affected by this. Especially Pat Koch. On my first-ever visit to HW last season, I was one of only about a dozen guests at the gate when the park opened during a severe thunderstorm. Sure enough, the stories were true: Pat was out in the storm to greet us! *IANAL **but neither instantaneous nor perfect, by any means1 point

I Always like what Cedar Fair did when they renamed it Outer Hanks. Kinda like blowing a raspberry to Paramount. Everyone knows Tom "HANKS" was the star of Forrest Gump which the Bubba Gump shrimp company was named after. So they changed the name Because Hanks was Out? get it? Outer Hanks.......No....(Crickets Chirping)....G'nite everyone..1 point

^ ...Cried the binomial multiplication. (I'm sorry. I have a thing with math jokes. I'll stop.) As always, I love the photos, TOPGUN. I wonder if the park's ever considered restoring the flume/trough/gutter/whatever system with a small water system that would be contained just to that area. No ponds or anything; just have the water at the bottom run into a pump that would push the water back to the top. The pump could be disguised with a bucket, etc. to blend in.1 point
