  1. Re: Screamscape... Save this KI update in your memory banks... "2014 - Banshee / New Coaster - Rumor - (6/3/13) Screamscape sources have confirmed to us that not only is the new Kings Island 2014 coaster from B&M, but it will be a new large Wing Coaster. And yes… unless things change, we can expect to see it fly under the Banshee name." Because chances are, if the coaster isn't what Lance is *speculating*, the post will dissapear in a month or so without any acknowledgement of his ever being wrong.

  2. Have an idea. Find a construction guy enjoying a break with a danish. If no danish is found on his person buy him a Dippin Dots bowl. Tell him you're THE Dippin Dots guy and you need the scoop. If he's half a man, he'll spill the beans.

  3. I seriously doubt Adventure Express is going anywhere, for anyone who thinks that...it is an Arrow Dynamics Mine Train coaster. The very fist coaster of this model ever built was Runaway Mine Train, at Six Flags Over Texas, which opened in August 1966...and is still going today. Cedar Creek Mine Ride @ Cedar Point opened in 1969...still going today. Adventure Express...opened in 1991. Compared to the 2 rides I listed above, it's a baby. As for it being unpopular? The 15-minute waits on even crowded days are NOT the result of that...Adventure Express is a high-capacity ride, and at the end of the year, it still gives nearly a million rides. And I don't think AE has severe reliability issues at all, either. And if it is taking up lots of land...I call BS, you just tore down SOB, Thunder Alley and have the entire former Wild Animal Habitat area to work with, if even the AZ midway. You can build a new ride and not have to demolish Adventure Express to do so. Adventure Express is probably staying put, unless Cedar Fair is THAT stupid to remove a popular ride that still has 20+ good years or more left on it...yeah, Mine Trains are a good long-term purchase for amusement parks, it would seem.

  4. Re: Screamscape... Some parks and PR folk actually submit rumors to Lance... I know of at least two instances where park reps have "leaked" stuff to Screamscape. It's no different than actors "leaking" things to TMZ... all for publicity. Sometimes those leaks are truth... sometimes they're false... sometimes they have merit... but sometimes they're designed to mislead. I seem to recall that Screamscape, when Diamondback first began construction, posted that they heard from an official that the site was being prepped for a dive coaster. Add to that the interview that Dennis Spiegel (International Theme Park Services) gave to a local TV news station in Cincinnati saying that the construction appeared to him as being that of a "Dive Coaster." It turned out both were wrong... but wrong with the same guess... coincidence? As construction on Diamondback progressed... the original Screamscape speculation magically dissapeared. POOF! I read Screamscape weekly. I enjoy it. But I also take it for what it's meant to be... rumors and speculation. Quite frankly, I've been able to better guess some things just by looking as ground prep than Screamscape has. But then other times, it's been on the mark. Typically, Screamscape is fairly accurate with specualtion about parks which Lance is intimately familiar. He's not intimately familiar with KI.

  9. In all fairness, my KI Platinum Pass worked. Perfectly. Intend to try at Cedar Point this week. I'm amazed. I was also amused by Fort Zimmerman at Flight of Fear. It was very hot. The park was nearly empty. And food was substantially more expensive than at Busch. A very small slice of Pepperoni Pizza was $5.03, including tax. At BGW, a much higher quality 12 inch pie was $9.29 with a season pass. KD is a gorgeous park. Rain was coming. I got there at about 11:30 and was gone by 2. Flight of Fear went down just as I was about to board. Grizzly was as awesome as always. I'll be back when all the shows have started.

  16. I took my 9 year old sister to the park today because I had been telling her for almost 2 years that I would and still hadn't gotten around to it. The crowd was typical of a summer day She had a great day, rode her favorite ride (Adventure Express) 3 times, and tried a new ride because she finally hit 54 inches, which was Flight of Fear! She loved it too! It was fun watching her drive her own bumper car for the first time too A few notes from today, in my signature bullet-point fashion: Are there new wait time signs for rides? For example, Beast had a sign that looked like it had been themed uniquely to the ride. When did this start happening? Am I just oblivious? In terms of Project 2014, it looked like there had been some dirt pushing and what not since last time I was there, but I couldn't really get a great look at it because my sister didn't want to go on Drop Tower or the Eiffel Tower. I couldn't tell ya if there was anything new or not. I did see a few maintenance trucks driving and blue shirts walking around back there today though! The access road that goes around Flight of Fear has new signs on it, styled in the same fashion of the signs on the construction fence. You can see it from the top of Adventure Express's lift hill. They read "Go Slow, Construction Zone" or something along those lines. I could see 2 of them from Adventure Express. I don't think anybody had mentioned these yet, but I don't think they matter too much. Unless maybe the construction stretches all the way out there? I'm getting sidetracked, nevermind It looks like Flight of Fear's building still has some damage on it like it did last year, but not nearly as severe. This is also visible from Adventure Express. Remember, NO CAMPING! Thanks for reading! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask!

  20. don't they typicall blow straw over grass seed to keep it from washing away, while soaking in some extra water for growth? I can't say if its grass, weeds, whatever growing in that area, I can't say if it was done on purpose or just nature taking its coarse, but the lawn & garden guy on 55krc mentioned the other day that the weather this year has created a "double growing season" meaning that the growth you'd expect in a typical spring on your trees, has grown twice as much this spring. Same would hold true for grass seed, weeds, rose bushes, etc.. Perhaps that accounts for more natural growth in that area than anyone would have anticipated. I'll agree that you're not going to throw down grass seed in an area you plan to tear up again, but I wouldn't think you'd throw down grass seed until all the heavy equipment was moved out. Heavy equipment used in the construction has a tendancy to tear up existing ground.

  21. I was right there with ya man. I couldnt ride Diamondback last year either and i was about 320. Im 290 now and the last time I rode, I was able to get that 2nd click by myself. Its a great feeling. The Only ride at KI I currently cant ride is Drop Tower. Keep At It Dude!

  22. I am currently too big to ride most of the rides at the park. Last year I was about 400 pounds (Not my biggest) but since then I have lost about 40 pounds and I am still too big for most, but my two visits this year so far, I have been able to fit more comfortably on the rides that I was tight on last year. I tried the test seat on Diamondback and was able to get my entire butt in the seat but still have to get rid of some inches around my stomach. But my goal is to be able to ride Diamondback by July 4. I did not have too much to go actually. But I do still have quite a bit of work to do for The Beast. Adventure Express was definately an easier fit for me this year. Its definitely a plus that Flight Deck has taken off the seatbelt restraints. I am continuing to work on it. I actually have a Facebook page dedicated to my weight loss where I talk about my primary motivation is fitting on rides again at Kings Island. Its called Stephen Transforming and my first "note" or blog on there is about the feelings of the walk of shame. I wish everyone the best of luck. We will ge there.

  27. Neither the ride formerly known as Top Gun or the ride currently known as Invertigo are 30 seconds long. They are 1:52 & 1:30 respectively. That said, your opinion of what is a waste of money is another's dream ride, first ride, or simply still fun for many of us.

  34. I've not posted on this topic much because the speculation of what is going on here is just to vague for me at this point. That said though, does anyone else see the possibility of the cleared area behind FoF possibly being used to connect X-base to AZ? I mean it doesn't HAVE to be all for the new ride, and I know many have said opening that area of the park would be a good idea. Probably have to reconfigure Firehawks queue, but in the grand scheme of things that would be a mild inconvenience.

  35. Interesting how most on here that have commented in reference to my post keep discounting my hypothesis (which was that just because Mr. O's comments about no winged coasters on the menu does not necessarily mean we are not getting a winged coaster - if they have already ordered and signed a contract, then it isn't on the menu any more for consideration because it is a done deal that KI is getting one). Obviously these same folks chose to forget they are reading between the lines right now with respect to what is happening now- just the end of last year we were being told they had no plans for the former SOB area, which was true - because a contract was already signed for what is going in right now, so they have no plans for what to do with this area when this attraction has reached its useful life. Some folks here have been quick to dismiss a winged coaster as why would they want another similar ride so close, yet Cedar Fair has how many WindSeekers, how many Soak City's, how many Planet Snoopy's, Dinasaurs Alive, Diamondback equivalent, etc. Maybe KI's will not overtake Cedar Point's winged coaster in a statistical category, but I could see one just a little shorter in height and length, but maybe add something to make it just different enough to draw folks. Just because the fanboys don't want two of the same thing so close doesn't imply it will not happen. Somewhere perhaps, some Dinasaur fanboy forum was speculating Cedar Fair would never put two Dinasaurs Alive in the same state and compete against one another This is a business, and if they can negotiate a better deal purchasing in bulk, why not take advantage of it. With 3 winged coasters in the USA, why not make sure the odds fall in Cedar Fair's favor for the few individuals that would decide which park to go to simply because of a winged coaster - next year could be 4 USA parks with winged, two of which belong to Cedar Fair, coupled with their two parks-one price deal, they just got someone coming to their parks instead of Dollywood. But alas, I have been told a cigar is just a cigar, so I will enjoy mine in the designated smoking area while you eat crow when they announce the dinosaur themed B&M dive wing coaster on July 5th during the showing of Jurassic Park at the dive in. Who knows, maybe this post is a diversion...

  36. Oh to be a young amuesment park enthusiast. The older you get, the less important these facts are to you. It may make you feel unique or part of a group now, but you'll later realize that it's all trivial. So, you spouted some piece of information to a guest and they were impressed. Or, you felt like an insider because you talked about something with a park employee. Once your life's focus turns to paying bills, keeping your job and making sure you can survive on your own, the thrill of knowing these things dies.

  42. So than why are we considering Italian Job a family coaster? And if you really want to classify a roller coasters length, I think fairly you can't count the lift hill. That's why The Beast is 5 minutes long... Maybe because BLSC has a 48" height restriction and is 40mph, while Invertigo has a 54" restriction, goes 50mph, has three inversions, lifts you up to 131ft. and has 5G's? And who gives a crap about length? Top Thrill Dragster is an amazing coaster and it's not even 20 seconds long!
