  1. Starting today, the park will start to email out the details on Banshees media day to those that have correctly RSVP'ed to attend. I ask those that receive this email please don't share it on the forums as we don't want anyone that did not RSVP for the event showing up and be denied because they aren't on the guest list. (These are public forums after all.) As a reminder to those that get the email, you must being your coaster groups member card to verify yourself at the gate. Any questions shoot me a PM. -Dane

  2. Hey KIC! I recently wrote an article about Banshee and Kings Island for my school's newspaper. Feel free to read here: http://elderhsquill.org/3546/features/Banshee-leads-thrill-list-at-kings-island/ Thanks guys! - Diamondbacker

  3. Anyone who uses characters other than letters in their name should be required to fully pronounce the name of that character when saying their name. So Ke$ha should have to refer to herself as "Key-dollar-sign-ha." jcgoble3, who is aware that this post is totally off-topic but can't resist posting it anyway

  4. Quick life lesson: The less you worry about other people's opinion of your "style", the more freedom you'll have to live your life in the style you prefer. If you find a "fanny pack" convinent and useful, there is no sense worrying what someone else is going to think about it. But if you don't like the fanny pack, here's an idea, go find a zipable small bag that is large enough to carry any possesions you want to have at the park, wallet, ID, phone, keys, etc... and still fit into your pocket. If you hit up a Dicks or golf store, you can find something along these lines designed for golf tees. I'm sure there are a bunch of other similar bags designed for other uses that can be used for a "KI" bag Then find a clip that you can use to hook that bag to your pocket.

  6. How much worse than last year could it get? Diamondback gave 1,861,093 rides last year which represents the most rides given in one year on the tallest and fastest roller coaster at Kings Island.

  8. I wonder if they test out the Speed-Rail by getting a 10 year old to swing from them like they're attempting the uneven bars at the Olympics.

  9. If they got incredibly hot, that would probably discourage people from sitting on the railings. And in turn that would save Ride Ops some time for not having to tell people to get off of them. An excellent way, in my opinion, to use my 100th post on this wonderful site.

  11. No, it's the 43rd season. It is only the 42nd anniversary, but if you start with 1972 as season 1 and count seasons, its 43. Anyways, great article Diamondbacker! You did a nice job keeping it in simple terms for all of the gullible GP. You should have put in a paragraph to put all the insane rumors to rest. The only downside was having to see that ugly purple banner at the top. rcwizard13, NOT a fan of Elder.

  13. Anyway... I always find it ironic when people say they're losing weight for Disney, because Disney is the most large-person-friendly park there is! I've been fortunate enough to have 5 trips to WDW in the past 8 years, and I have never had an issue with any ride there, unlike most other parks I go to. I have a friend who lost weight years ago for his first Disney trip, and we like to laugh about that. When he first told me about it, I said what I did above about it being large person friendly. He responded "Yeah, I found that out when I got there!" Here is a great resource on WDW rides and attractions for people of the larger persuasion: http://allears.net/tp/ridsiz.htm Links on the left side of the page will take you to the sections on each park. Even that may be a negative for me. In order to ride DB, I have to be stapled, and I know just by the feel of the restraint on my legs whether it's sufficient or not. I can usually get it down enough on my own. If it's not good enough, I'll say my seat number, such as 8-3, before the driver has a chance to say it over the loudspeaker to alert the ride ops in the station to push down for me. I've only been wrong once. I have faith in DB's restraints. But I do remember the thought crossing my mind during DB's first year "What would I do if the restraint failed." My solution: wrap my arms around that black bar next to the seat and hold on tight. Even with seatbelts that don't cross the body, I and many others have had problems with those that connect the restraint to the seat. Examples being: Drop Tower is impossible for me, Flight of Fear is iffy (it depends on the seat), Gatekeeper is very questionable, Vortex is fine. Don't let anyone tell you that all seatbelts are the same length on all seats: they're not. I've lost 12 lbs since December in my attempt to slim down for Banshee. Unfortunately, I'm still 7 lbs over where I was for GK's Media Day last year. With Banshee's restraints being the same as GK's, it's questionable whether I'll be able to ride on April 17th. I still have 15 days to go, so I'll do what I can in that time. If I do get the dubious distinction of being Banshee's first Walk of Shame, which believe I was for GK (after I had already ridden it once), then I will just enjoy the experience of being in the park after 6 long months and enjoy spending time with family & friends in between their Banshee rides.

  14. ^ you got me though today there does appear to be a lot more landscaping near the station as well as a tarp over the little planter shelter thingy area in the middle of AZ so it's more like you kinda predicted the future proof that I'm gullible hahaha Edit to avoid double posting: she's testing again, even on this gloomy day Image captured from Kings Island's live Banshee cam, which can be found here

  16. Texas Giant is a trademark used by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. As such, it is always capitalized here. The cause of the Texas Giant death is currently a matter in controversy in litigation. Industry, industry observers, safety experts and others besides the litigants themselves have been closely watching this case. There are many theories for what went wrong and who could best have prevented the tragedy at Six Flags Over Texas that day. I was not aware causation had been conclusively determined.

  17. Honestly it's quite a shame that waist packs are mocked like they are... I can't think of a more convenient and safe way to carry a small number of essentials. I would trust a zipped waist pack a LOT more than the Velcro pockets on my cargo shorts. Many years ago, before they were ridiculed to the extent that they are now, I used a waist pack at KI. It was great actually, and I don't recall ever having to stow it. Maybe the hipster movement or something will make them acceptable. And to answer the "why do you need to bring things with you" questions that sometimes arise... a few things really are essential imho. Keys, cellphone, wallet, hand sanitizer (laugh away... but I bet roller coaster restraints are among the nastiest things you could touch at Kings Island), sunglasses, a couple Ibuprofen, etc. I like to be prepared.

  26. Absolutely. A train will not be allowed to crest the lift hill unless The previous train has passed the next set of brakes. There will be space before the station for two trains. Imagine the first of these as acting as the MCBR.

  34. The reason it seems to me why people think that fanny packs need to be banned (in jest only) is because they are not cool, hip, or is not stylish. It kind of reminded me of young people in school didn't want to carry an umbrella for the same reason. They are very convenient to wear and holds the basic needs for the day. Plus, with the easy opening clips, you can remove it from your waist very easily without much effort. One thing, if you notice EMTs and athletic trainers, they all wear some form of a fanny pack for the essential items that they require for their job.

  35. Yes there are things that the park does that I don't agree with (like this rumored seatbelt) but I still love the park. I'm not pushing some agenda buddy and you should not falsely label me as one. Just because a baby is crying on a plane I'm not going to push some movement to stop crying babies on planes but I can still be annoyed by it.

  36. I'm guessing if you took a poll of people walking off Adventure Express, an overwhelming majority of people getting off the ride would tell you it was a wood coaster. Not many people pay attention (or care about) the rails that the train runs on, or what differentiates a wooden coaster from a steel coaster.

  37. I had my wife sew in zippers on the pockets of my mesh shorts. Works great.....phone, line candy, and wallet fit perfect! I have cargo jean shorts, but walking around in the heat and humidity all day, those tend to get heavy and cause me to do that weird/funny walk that all guys know about.

  38. Just passed the $500 mark today!!! Almost to my goal and hoping I can blow by it. What do we do if someone wants to donate through a check? I assume from what I have ready have it made out to A Kid Again, mail to the Greater Cincy office and enter the information on the online first giving site? Am I missing anything regarding this process? Also check out my page if you feel led to give. https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/ScottNeff/screamforakidagain

  45. Some of us have been plastering it all over our FB page and talking it up with our friends with not a whole lot of takers. (It does not help that a lot of the FB friends are also trying to raise money for the same event.) Not everyone has people available to donate their money, and that has to be respected as well!
