  3. You know, I usually keep my mouth shut on these matters, but in this case I simply cannot. I read far too many comments like the ones posted above and I just need to say something. There is no "gay" life style. I do not drink "gay" coffee. I do not eat "gay" food. I do not take a "gay" shower. I do not go to "gay" work. Etc Etc I just wish people would stop saying "gay lifestyle". I don't do anything differently than anyone else when it comes to living my life. I do everything like anyone else as far as trying to live my life and survive in this world, which isn't done in some special "gay" manner as many like to think. Life is life, save "style" for clothes and hair please. Also, even though you may not hate anyone, you going out of your way to say you don't hate the LGBT community makes you come off sounding entitled. My love is not a sin. I am in a committed relationship of almost four years now and have been faithful to her and I truly LOVE her. I didn't wake up and decide to be a lesbian. Just like you didn't wake up and decide to be straight. I just made the choice to be happy and be myself...because you're right...life is too short to hate anyone or give them grief for who they love. It's this exact mentality of saying "love the sinner, hate the sin"...that perpetuates the religious community as better than anyone who so happens to seem different than themselves. And the only time one ever seems to hear that overused quote is toward the LGBT community. Anyways, that is all. No one has to agree with me and I'm not asking for pats on the back.

  4. So that made the previous announcement of today's announcement an announcement of an announcement of an announcement. Terp, who liked looking in facing beauty shop round mirrors as a child (and still does!)

  6. No. Either do it or don't do it. Don't "do it on a budget." Doing it on a budget was what brought Phantom Theatre to the.... level... of SDATHC. Doing it on a budget was what brought to you the Garfield ride at Kennywood - one that I regretfully rode despite being advised otherwise by all of the KP park employees I spoke to. It seems as though as technology has progressed, standards for dark rides at seasonal parks has plummeted. Wonderful works of art like the Maestro have been replaced by wooden cutouts that pivot when you shoot them with a poorly designed blaster gun. If you're going to do a dark ride - Peanuts or otherwise - do it on a year in which you have the necessary working capital. Make it an experience that is something of which you can be proud. Make art imitate life. Make it in a way in which it can be maintained to proper standards day after day, year after year.

  8. But this does make sense. The stand up thing as an ironic twist for a while, but it was just a gimmick. Nobody's favorite type of a coaster is a stand up. Yeah, I get that floorless is kind of gimmicky too, but at least it'll breath new life into the ride. I, for one, am in favor. Of course, that's still assuming that the floorless thing is true....

  9. Sounds interesting! I think the only way you could get me into one of the mazes is if the lights are on.

  11. DJSkyFoxx You took the words out of my mouth. What bothers me is that the Screaming_Chicken had underlined two words: Have and Hate. Whether intentional or not, it sends the wrong message. This whole thing brings me to a weird point because I'm a practicing Christian and I'm gay. No where in the Bible has God said "you HAVE to love the person and HATE the sin." This phrase has been used numerous times and it's just not biblical. It's a man made phrase that people use to feel better about how they treat those who may not go through life like some Christians believe they should. The Huffington Post in 2013 published an entry that summed the whole phrase up: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/micah-j-murray/why-i-cant-say-love-the-sinner-hate-the-sin-anymore_b_4521519.html The fact of the matter is, those of us in the LGBTQ community don't really need anyone's approval to be who we are, we don't need anyone to say hey I love you but I hate your lifestyle, etc. We just need to be treated like we're just as Human as everyone else. /Rant I am so upset that I can't attend this event. I unfortunately have to work very early the next morning. To those going, have a ton of fun, take pictures and please ride Banshee for me

  12. Screaming... DJ- that's why these discussions in general are frowned upon in these forums. There's no happy ending and it causes a negative tone on an otherwise benign Park site. If there is a thread with a discussion I have a strong opinion on that some hold dearly... I avoid it. This is one of those topics that, for this site, all should agree to disagree- and for the most part, leave it at that. There is a time and place for this debate, KI Central is likely not that place.

  13. Sure there is. "Cedar Point release a video via their YouTube channel today implying that The Mantis roller coaster will be 'squashed' on October 19th. Speculation is abound as to what the true meaning of the video is. "Rumors have circulated for years that Mantis would be converted into a floorless design" said Jeff Putz, administrator on Pointbuzz.com "The stand-up trains were popular in the 80's and early 90's, but it's time for a change." Park spokesperson Brian Edwards refused to comment further. Cedar Point season passes are on sale now for the lowest advertised price of the season." There you go. Please note that I just made up the Jeff Putz quote as well as the rest of the article. ...and the article I made up on the fly and whipped out in 90 seconds is now basically for real: http://www.wkyc.com/story/news/features/2014/09/02/cedar-point-reveals-2015-plans/14962773/

  19. ^^ Both last year and this year, it has become possible (during normal operation) to use your season pass for re-entry without needing a handstamp. This applies only to KI; CP, for one, still requires a handstamp even for passholders. I assume that passes will be tracked, and second and subsequent scans will not be allowed on Fridays or after the cut-off time on Saturdays.

  20. Also, the ride itself is still in good shape. I really doubt they'd tear it down. I know for sure I'm in a minority on this, but I rather liked Mantis the way it currently is. Mind you, I do have to ride it early in the day as my legs turn to Jello if I ride it later in the day after all the walking, but I rather enjoy it. However, I'm a huge fan of floorless coasters too, and having one back in Ohio after Dominator left for Kings Dominion will be nice.

  22. It was running again later in the day. I was on the Eiffel Tower when I and many guests were looking over at Drop Tower, talking about how long it had been 'stuck' up there. It was very windy up there, which made me appreciate what they must've been going through. I wondered if they'd get stuck in a rain storm. Then I wondered, "If they do get stuck in a rain storm, and then the ride drops, how cool would it be to see rain falling while you're falling, too?" Then I wondered, "Do they get a courtesy countdown before the drop, given that they'd been up there for so long?" Then I smelled Funnel Cake and had to go.

  23. I would like to see Woodstock Express be left as it is. Kids need their first dose of a wooden coaster experience and that covers it quite well.

  27. In theory, yeah. There's just a LOT of variables that would theoretically go into designing new trains, like mass moment of inertia of the new trains vs. the old trains, rider heartline location on the trains vs. what heartline the track was designed around, service life changes, and braking configuration, off the top of my head. That's not mentioning the multiple station changes required on Cedar Point's part. It's not impossible, but it would be difficult, which I would believe would also make it very expensive. I'm by no means the expert on how everything mechanical is designed, and B&M clearly knows what they're doing when it comes to coasters, but I would be extremely impressed to see Mantis get new floorless (or any other style of) trains. Regardless: Based on the strangeness of hyping up a ride "removal" announcement, it seems like Cedar Point's got something unique up their sleeves. Parks don't really tend to say, "Now, for the moment you've been waiting for... We're going to remove a ride. GET PUMPED!" Even parks with the ever-teasing hype machine that is Tony Clark as their public relations guy. There's something big to this that's yet to come. Stay tuned.

  31. Just like I never suggest someone purposefully skip a ride just because I don't enjoy it, I wouldn't wish demolition on many coasters*. I don't enjoy Mantis very much, but I would be very sad to see it go. I think you would, too, once its full queue is redistributed throughout the park. Here's hoping they make use of a very impressive B&M concoction and twist it into something else. * unless they presented a danger to the public or an undue burden on the park's finances and operations, which may or may not have been the case with at least a few of Kings Island's lost rides.

  37. That's what I was kind of saying. Not that they wouldn't add anything, but sometimes capexes are done in areas that are less marketable. 2008 was my favorite year ever for KI, but there was no new ride. They had to do other things to draw attention to themselves... and boy did they. 2013 saw the addition of the Reds HOF Grille. You never really saw TV placements for it or anything like that, but it added a much-needed element to the park.

  39. The cool thing about Banshee is that if it breaks down while you're in line, it's typically a quick fix It's worth keeping your place in line. I think Opening Day was the only time I'd ever seen it down for more than just a few minutes.

  40. Park was pretty packed yesterday, lines for the $1 pizza were crazy long, thank goodness for the all season dining plan, made the dining option that much easier (or quicker). Dogging rain drops isn't fun, and we had to find shelter for a little bit, but well worth it for that ride on The Beast with the track still kicking up water off the track. I don't know if it runs faster after a good rain, but it always "feels" faster. When we were leaving, there was somebody starring up at Drop Tower (about 4:00 pm). I figured they were just waiting to watch it, but they stood there for what felt like a longer period than you'd expect so as we approached them, I turned to see what they were looking at when they told me the ride was "stuck" at the top. I didn't quite believe him, but sure enough after standing there well over a minute the ride was still at the top with people aboard. Probably several more minutes before we got to our car, when the ride finally dropped; I figure those riders had to be up there for at least 5 min. maybe longer (which I'm sure some loved, and I'm sure for some it will be their last ride on that. Don't know what the problem was, for all I know it could have been held up there for something completely unrelated to the ride. Since we were leaving, I have no idea if they had it back and running right away, before the night was done or if it was done for the day. Overall a muggy, wet, packed day, but always worth the time.

  41. LOL well, if you remember seeing someone who looks like a chubby Judd Nelson in an Abe Lincoln chin beard, juggling 3 Coneys, a cup of fries, a bunch of hot sauce, some napkins and a Banshee drink cup (because all of their freakin' trays were on loan to LaRosa's) then, yep, that was thy Biscuit ye saw.
