Kings Island is having their inaugural Run & Ride event happening the weekend of Sept. 26th-28th. On Friday, Sept. 26th there is a 5K Glow Run and on Sunday Sept. 28th The Banshee 10K run and a Half Marathon. Details can be found on www.visitkingsisland.com to register for any of the runs. If you are not a runner like me, you can also sign-up to help volunteer for the run instead. I am volunteering for the 5K Glow Run and then plan on going around the Haunt that night. Share this with others you know that are runners or anyone else you think would like to volunteer for the runs. It sounds like a cool event and hopefully will grow in attendance each year.4 points

Thank you for that link. I adore Mean Streak. It is one of the most breathtaking manmade structures I've ever looked at, and one of my favorite things about Cedar Point. The purple sky you get right around dusk, that beautiful wooden lattice structure, and a great view of the lake make that one of the most gorgeous images I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. I could make a real Dinn singing the praises of that ride on its own merits... But that view... Wow.3 points

Be sure to check out the current view of Cedar Point's second live-cam that is currently facing Mean Streak. Whether you like the coaster or not, it sure is a beauty, and this is a very unique, rare angle, and height at which to view the ride. Be sure to catch it later too, once the night-lights automatically come on. (As if you folks have nothing better to do with your lives than sit around and watch a live-cam at Cedar Point)3 points

"When the crypt doors creak and the tombstones quake Spooks come out for a screaming wake Happy haunts materialize and begin to vocalize Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize Now don't close your eyes and don't try to hide Or a silly spook may sit by your side Shrouded in a daft disguise, they pretend to terrorize Grim grinning ghosts, come out to socialize" Those are lines from the song "Grim Grinning Ghosts", which is the song that plays in Haunted Mansion at the Disney parks.3 points

^We saw it last Saturday and it was excellent! I've been a fan of their's for years and they put on a great show mixing live music, film and live action. Loved the ending, but you won't get any spoilers from me... except to say that it's not over once the show ends... move along out the exit please...3 points

Can I just take a moment and comment on the fact that the park practically ignored having a Ferris Wheel for the entirety of the ride's thirteen/fourteen year existence. A few examples how: I have never found a single news article or press release mentioning the ride's addition The ride wasn't always given an "official" name, but was referred to as "a ferris wheel" or similar (reference first picture in my original post) It was misplaced on at least one map (I cannot recall the exact year, but it was placed on the wrong side of Oktoberfest's pond on a 1980s poster map) The year it opened (1978) it wasn't even part of the "fun guide" (the map). To be fair, Bavarian Beetle (which I'm 95% sure was removed after 1977) was on the 1978 map, so it may have been a case of a last minute, unplanned removal of the coaster and addition of the wheel. Regardless, I think a Ferris Wheel would make an excellent addition to the park today. There is a lack of family rides outside of Planet Snoopy, and a Wheel in Coney Mall would look and fit wonderfully. It could either be an Eli Bridge model (similar to the ones at Cincinnati's Coney Island or Stricker's Grove) or a larger one. Personally, I'd adore an eccentric wheel, like at Disney California Adventure or New York's Coney Island.2 points

I wonder if they were at a certain Mansion while posting that, a Theater maybe? Surprised those happy haunts who materialize have yet to begin to vocalize their disapproval of the botched wordplay.2 points

The park has had two Hampton rides, one which I believe was removed in the 1980s, the other which remains today. The picture is one of these two: -Autocat, which underwent a couple name changes. Titles included Huck's Hot Rods, Go Diego Go, and Peanuts' Off-Road Rally. It was relocated within the area in 2006. -Motor Mouse, which *may* have also been Boo Boo's Buggies and Peeway Raceway (if not, then Autocat went by those names for a while). I'm fairly confident it was removed in the mid-1980s. Here's a couple I've spotted over the years. None are mine. Notice how it was repainted a darker brown at some point. The Ferris Wheel opened in 1978 and last operated in 1990 or 1991 (I'm learning towards 1990). Despite being at the park for well over a decade, there is very little information on it. It was manufactured by Eli Bridge though, who also manufactured Scrambler.2 points

This is a Jungle Jim's-themed thread bump! For those of you who did not know, one of the former Lion Country Safari monorails moseyed on over to the Eastgate location of Jungle Jim's. It's an inoperative static display in front of the store located between the entrance and exit. It's on a tall bridge and quite hard to miss, really. Although I'm sure they stripped the cars of running gear, the interiors look to be mostly intact. Plus the inside of the cars lights up at night! It's been repainted in a scheme completely different from the KI paint job. The beer and wine display cases at the Fairfield store came from KI, as well as various benches and tables (from one of the International Street restaurants). In addition, the bumper-cars-turned-display-shelves at the Fairfield JJ's are from Coney. This post is in no way, shape or form related to my employment at Jungle Jim's this past summer.2 points

That is part of what's confusing me - if you looked at that view from the same angle today, wouldn't the Int'l Street shops be visible? I was under the impression that all those buildings were constructed before the park was opened and weren't part of any expansion. It'd be great if KI posted "throwback" pictures every so often. I'm fascinated by that Taft video about the park's construction, wish more stuff like that was around. i think that pic is actually in front of the entry building, before you go through the gates.2 points

I like "Welcome back riders. How was your ride?" It should be left at that though. Speaking of Welcome back riders there is a fantastic documentary of that name on amusement park history. It covers long gone parks like Euclid Beach and Old Elitch Gardens as well as still thriving parks like Cedar Point and Disneyland. I highly recommend it for those who haven't seen it.<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/SQSawTY3PkU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>2 points

I hope that our old Wheel of Fortune is well-kept at its new home. I'd hate to think of its future being in Jeopardy! Perhaps one day, it will change hands again if The Price is Right. I wouldn't Press Your Luck with a park in Santa Claus, Indiana, though. I hear they have a bit of a Family Feud going on, To Tell the Truth. I have no idea why, but I couldn't resist the urge to make that post.2 points

They also have breakfast and overnight packages available for this if anyone wants to shell out even more $ ($30+ per person - even with an annual pass). While I don't get the popularity of this, it will probably draw some more visitors to the aquarium during a slower time of year (there is always a sudden drop in activity levels at Newport on the Levee immediately after Labor Day due to school starting back up again and everything).1 point

No. Only if it is claimed the information is confirmed by the park. See the TOS. Q. Wouldn't it be assumed that anything posted by "The Beach Waterpark" in fact speaks in the name of said park and is endorsed by them? Terp, who likes to ask questions.1 point

They should make The Bat into a haunted coaster. With a haunted path on the walk back to it, and then a haunted lower station area, and then a pretty normal station, and then some things set up with the actual ride on the coaster.1 point

I don't believe that ride ops determine disability. I am pretty sure that a guest with disabilities goes to Guest Services or speaks with a supervisor who then provides said guest with the sheet documenting which rides are safe for that guest to enjoy. The ride ops just look to see if the ride the guest is waiting for is approved on the ride sheet.1 point

In other news, Vortex is sinking & Flight Deck is on the chopping block.1 point
-
Is Shake, Rattle, & Roll near enough to the sink hole that Vortex sits in for it to be affected? I didn't think it was... I was also there today at the park, and noticed from WindSeeker that there was pretty much nothing in the area where Shake Rattle and Roll was. There's concrete evidence of where the ride was. I still don't see how the smooth metal on the little grommets would cause a large scratch down my back The main reason is they can gouge the surface of the slide and cause injuries to people who slide after you.1 point

that gives me an idea for a swimsuit covered in nothing but diferent colored duct tape1 point

Pretty much all water parks have this rule. It's to prevent scratching the finish on the water slides. And yes, it's incredibly difficult to find shorts without grommets. You can cut the grommets out and make a pair of shorts your dedicated water park shorts. The water park also sells grommet-less shorts, though I don't know what kind of prices they are anymore. When I worked there (6 years ago), they were actually about the same price you'd find outside the park. Last year I had grommets on the front of my shorts but not the back (I wear a pair of nylon shorts over my swim suit) and they let me on the slides, but that was probably because they were being nice rather than they were actually supposed to.1 point
