  1. Ever think the lack of "teasers" is the actual teasing?
  2. Gaslighting is very serious, both in the action & the accusation. I am not trying to be unempathetic for those who have been gaslighted but using "gaslighting" in the example given here takes away from the seriousness of the true action. The literal action typically surrounds a very personal relationship.
  3. They are all wrong. It's gonna be a Aquatrax....
  4. KI did have trams back in the day. I believe the added insurance expense in our litigious world had a hand in their demise. CP does have van shuttles that will take you from front of park to back of park, marina entrance, Lighthouse Point etc. Link to previous tram discussion:
  5. Lake Erie water level, as well as all the Great Lakes, are near or have exceeded all time high levels. Superior is about 14" above normal whereas the rest are +30" above normal. Needless to say, the levels are creating havoc on the shorelines. A good chunk of Cedar Point Marina has been under water this year & yesterday there was a decent NE wind which "pushes" water into Sandusky Bay. There is almost as much water as there is land on Presque Isle in Erie (Waldameer for you enthusiast folk). At this point, we can only hope for a good amount of dry weather to drop the levels before the winter months. High water & winter storms will devastate the shorelines everywhere.
  6. Annoyed? Really? I hope that is an exaggeration. It's just a 2020 coaster. It's still a great park with much activity to discuss in 2019 without teasing the newest addition. If CF announced all their the big additions the same way at every park the anticipation would be nil across the board. We are just over the halfway point of the main operating season. There is still a ton of time to enjoy the teasing- kinda like ----play without a feather. Frankie say RELAX......
  7. The allure of GL was lost when SF over expanded both in size & rides. The majority of the members here can't imagine how adding rides is a bad thing, but SF added so much so fast as direct competition to CP it turned many off. GL was a really nice, family park. SF commercialized it so much (similar to Paramount's takeover of KI) GL lost its charm. Then adding SW was the nail in the coffin. SF advertised the park as so big when people came, the disappointment was just as big. The place was a haul to walk around. When I mention "charm" I refer to parks like: Waldameer, BGW, and Hershey. CF gets blame due to being the last owner that pulled the trigger. Their mistake was taking it over from SF because the damage was already done.
  8. There are many aspects that go into removing a ride. Parks need to take into account: ride reliability, maintenance costs, popularity, & overall guest experience to name a few off the top of my head. I believe that ride removal just for the sake of not expending elsewhere would be one of the last deciding factors.
  9. Did you at least go to the bathroom first? AND wash your hands??
  10. I have been guilty of taking things the wrong way to the point I believed the poster was being insulting/ malicious. When in reality they just didn't understand what I meant. I refer it to a "lost in translation" effect in social media. We cannot hear someone's tone of voice or see facial expressions and may take a post the wrong way and consider it an attack. Nobody is perfect. Nobody knows all. Everyone has an opinion. Too often we get caught up in something that we didn't explain fully, or someone else misunderstood. Is it really THAT big of a deal? This has always been a fun forum with some incredibly intelligent members that are very dedicated to KI (sometimes too dedicated ). BTW- I love smartass answers & humor. It keeps things on the light side. Take no offense and give it back!
  11. This much drama over what is being considered acceptable or not acceptable in trying to figure out what comes next?? Is this still is a decoding thread?? As a 15+ year member (and relatively quiet for the past couple years) admonishing an enthusiast for doing what we all have done for years is quite laughable. If the information is obtained through legal/ proper channels, post it. If the park had an issue with it, they would ask to have it taken down. This isn't a Christmas gift. This is not a troll posting spoilers because they saw a movie before you. Those comparisons are apples to oranges. This is a large project we are all excited for. If you want to wait till the announcement for a surprise, don't look at a decoding thread because unless the info is illegally obtained IT WILL BE POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA SITES. There are no "rules" when it comes to legally obtaining PUBLIC information. Please have fun with this! Some of my best memories of KIC were on threads just like this. Ok, rant over. I will stumble off my soapbox. In other news, the Browns are going to the playoffs in 2019!
  12. I have always considered amusement parks a mecca of social interaction especially when riding alone. Many times the discussions have been quite interesting.
  13. I heard through a reliable source that the sasquatches out back have been moving dirt piles around again........
  14. The ride operator will likely be sued, but it appears the true responsibility will fall on the ride manufacturer who either did not require the arm inspections or did not give (for lack of a better term) an "expiration date" as to how long these rides can be in service for before having a full-blown metal fatigue test conducted. Not trying to be morbid: from the info gathered at this point, I'm glad to hear it was not gross negligence on Amusements of America's part. I have bashed traveling carnival ride operators many times. This does not appear to be their fault.
  15. Not physically looking at the ride but be willing to be be quoted as to what they believe the failure to be is careless- especially if that is not the true failure. Now that it is out there, that is all anyone will believe. As you said, there are a number of entities performing an on-site, physical investigation. Does the European group believe those entities from Ohio are incompetent and they can diagnose the failure from pictures and an ocean away?
  16. For those planning on making a trip to KD in the next couple years. BGW is a short drive away:
  17. It is interesting that the National Association for Leisure Industry Certification has not looked at the ride themselves.
  18. No. That is not the case. That is what the news report was attempting to sensualize.
  19. This video offers very little explanation for anything. The pics of the affected area on page 1 are different than the pics in the video. Just another media outlet trying to uncover a smoking gun.
  20. 4340 is strong, but will rust. 316ss & aluminum can tarnish in the right conditions, but do not rust.
  21. The rust appearance some claim to see brings up a great question: What IS the material used in the arms of the ride?? 316ss? 4340? Aluminum?
  22. Number of Accidents Due to Amusement Park Rides Might Be Higher Than You Think http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/number-accidents-due-amusement-park-rides-might-be-higher-you-n787286 Sometimes I really hate the drama-spin that the media does. This is one of those times.
  23. I'm a firm believer that all accidents are preventable, that being said, it sounds as if the carnival operator did take the necessary precautions to operate the ride. Perhaps fatigue testing should be conducted more? (that then raises the question(s) where on the ride are the tests conducted) Anyone remember the Chaos accident years ago? The recent tragedy is starting to sound similar. http://lubbockonline.com/stories/073101/upd_075-5288.shtml#.WXs-gtTysdU
  24. Perhaps I am incorrect, but I read this as only an annual inspection is required: (key area highlighted) http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/1711.53 I take the (G) section use of the word "may" as it is not required for every individual set-up.
