  1. Interesting news. Not sure why either entity would want (or allowed) to acquire each other.
  2. Same complaints are made about Beast, Magnum and even DB due to the shimmying (which still boggles my mind). Younger generation has been "spoiled" by the smoothness of today's technology- and that's not a bad thing, it just is what it is. Rest assured, there is a plan in place- give it about 3 years. Given the terrain, I'm guessing a multi launch coaster, but that is an easy guess. -OR- A complete long shot- they could blow everyone away with a similar layout to the original Bat.
  3. This is a bummer. Not totally unexpected, but still a bummer. I can remember when Vortex first opened as Bat's replacement and being pleasantly surprised on how good the ride was. I expect there will be the same surprise in the coming years. There is always a plan.
  4. https://www.wsoctv.com/news/local/carowinds-copperhead-strike-coaster-closed-after-guest-injury/978116773 Changes are being made to the seat backs.
  5. Waldameer in Erie has gone exclusively to card only system for everything. No cash accepted in the park.
  6. Not necessarily a coaster commercial, but one that always had an impact for me as a kid. It meant school was starting soon........
  7. http://www.fox46charlotte.com/news/local-news/copperhead-strike-at-carowinds-closed-due-to-hand-injury-sunday She had her hand "stuck in the ride"?? Sounds like a seat restraint issue, but the reports are incredibly vague (accuracy also is in question). I guess this is better than having her hand strike the ride while in motion....
  8. The safety stories that always make the hair stand on the back of my neck typically consist of: "I was on x-ride & the kid never check my kid's restraint. It was up all the way up and I put it down just before going down the hill. I haven't been to x-park in years because they are unsafe & I'm never going back. The lines were too long and it was too hot. The cost of getting in is horrible and they charge for parking. The parking lot was full and we got there at noon and had to leave at 6:00pm because I have to work in the morning."
  9. I can remember in 2000 when SoB first opened the issues it had. We drove from Erie PA to KI 3x before finally getting on (only to be incredibly disappointed, but that is another conversation). It's easy to have hindsight, but waiting for more than 30 minutes for a broken down MF was not a good decision. The ride has been around long enough that the bugs have been worked out long ago. The pic you took looks like an indicator light/ proxy switch replacement (possibly the proxy switch indication for the transfer track), which can take some time to tweak in just right. There are likely safety protocols in place for x-cycles needed when a device like this is replaced.
  10. Amusement park accidents have increased as social media has increased. Yeah, it sounds dumb, but think about it. How many videos/ pics have we seen of a coaster being evacuated on the lift hill & have it described as an "accident" in the past decade? Many don't understand that a coaster being evacuated is likely due to the safety measures put into place. Is a car broken down on the side of the road considered an "accident"? There will be amusement park accidents. Trying to explain why it happens to a person/ group of people who are "headline trolls" (my definition of those who only read the headline as fact and refuse to read the actual story then argue that the headline IS the story) is impossible. Then there are many contributing factors: pre-existing injury, ride/ park location (in USA or in 3rd world country), moving carnival or stationary ride etc. Many do not want to hear those things simply because they don't understand them.
  11. Racer was never designed to go backwards & only did so as a one-year promotional stunt due to the various issues with The Bat. That one year promotion turned into a 26 year reign. CF took over & made the change back to how the ride was originally designed. I have a hunch the liability insurance that CF is required to carry had a hand in the decision too. When KI made the move in 1982 we did not live in the litigious World like today. It would be easy for a lawsuit to come up that an "injury" occurred due to the ride being operated in a way that it was not designed for.
  12. And just think that just a few weeks ago some believed the park was so upset about people looking into the submitted blueprints that there would be no teasers. I hope that the teasing that has transpired since has COMPLETELY squashed that theory due to the sheer effort the park has put in. KI/ CF media relations (or whoever had a hand in the teasing) deserves a well round of applause!
  13. The land clearing he needs for that unibrow would be comparable to the land being cleared for SoB.........
  14. It has nothing to do with him. The eyebrow & land clearing COMPLETELY contradict each other.
  15. You are referring to Deep Impact. Will Smith was not in either Armageddon or Deep Impact. What is it with all the adult movie references to the new coaster???
  16. Outside.... If it rains of course.
  17. Some enthusiast sites thrive on promoting negativity, and donkeys. Some enthusiast sites that are linked to a specific park only want their park to be the best by finding fault with another park. For some it's a rivalry. For others it is just plain fun! KIC (specifically PKIC) had a few members that would put CP down any chance they had back in the day. It should be noted that KIC does have some of the most open-minded enthusiasts when it comes to other parks that can be found. Attitude starts from the top down...... In the early 2000 I was lucky enough to live close enough to CP & a pass to PKI due to relatives living 20 minutes from the park. Each park has enough unique features that "comparing" isn't fair to either one. ( I personally LOVE Hershey & BGW as much as KI & CP).
  18. Looks like the title to an adult movie......
  19. Your commitment to hydration and subsequent relief is commendable!
  20. I watched the video. Its really not fairly done due to inaccurate comparisons. The populations around the park really have little to do with attendance. I feel that attendance is effected more by weather & competition (competition not necessarily from other parks). I also found it interesting that all the comparisons of cities to each park used a 4 hour traveling, but the author used the comparison of SFGA which is 5 hours from KD. I'm also confused by the comparisons of each park's current land usage & available land. For instance, Beast takes up a considerable amount of acerage. The author states that KI is using a percentage of their current land. He never considers how much extra acreage beyond the existing structure is needed to keep Beast out of view. As most of us know, much of Beast's allure is not being able to see the track from the rest of the park- especially at night. The video has lots of numbers that are found in the CF quarterly reports, but no acknowledgement. The video also has lots of pics and videos found at various enthusiast sites, but no acknowledgements. In a nutshell- the video regurgitates much information that we discuss here & is discussed at other sites quite regularly. While I totally agree that the video may not be geared to enthusiasts like most here, I honestly wonder if the author believes it to be for the general public.
  21. The biggest decision on investing rides in a park is ROI. Even though each park is owned by CF, each has a separate revenue stream. Comparing parks to each other is unfair.
  22. The noise from B & M coasters goes back to Raptor. Some parks like the noise & incorporate it into the theming i.e. the former Incredible Hulk, other parks want it quieter. The decision is up to the park.
  23. I can remember looking at the operator booth thinking: "Man, I want to be in that AC!"
