This much drama over what is being considered acceptable or not acceptable in trying to figure out what comes next?? Is this still is a decoding thread?? As a 15+ year member (and relatively quiet for the past couple years) admonishing an enthusiast for doing what we all have done for years is quite laughable. If the information is obtained through legal/ proper channels, post it. If the park had an issue with it, they would ask to have it taken down. This isn't a Christmas gift. This is not a troll posting spoilers because they saw a movie before you. Those comparisons are apples to oranges. This is a large project we are all excited for. If you want to wait till the announcement for a surprise, don't look at a decoding thread because unless the info is illegally obtained IT WILL BE POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA SITES. There are no "rules" when it comes to legally obtaining PUBLIC information. Please have fun with this! Some of my best memories of KIC were on threads just like this. Ok, rant over. I will stumble off my soapbox. In other news, the Browns are going to the playoffs in 2019!
  2. I have always considered amusement parks a mecca of social interaction especially when riding alone. Many times the discussions have been quite interesting.

I heard through a reliable source that the sasquatches out back have been moving dirt piles around again........
  4. The ride operator will likely be sued, but it appears the true responsibility will fall on the ride manufacturer who either did not require the arm inspections or did not give (for lack of a better term) an "expiration date" as to how long these rides can be in service for before having a full-blown metal fatigue test conducted. Not trying to be morbid: from the info gathered at this point, I'm glad to hear it was not gross negligence on Amusements of America's part. I have bashed traveling carnival ride operators many times. This does not appear to be their fault.
  5. Not physically looking at the ride but be willing to be be quoted as to what they believe the failure to be is careless- especially if that is not the true failure. Now that it is out there, that is all anyone will believe. As you said, there are a number of entities performing an on-site, physical investigation. Does the European group believe those entities from Ohio are incompetent and they can diagnose the failure from pictures and an ocean away?
  6. For those planning on making a trip to KD in the next couple years. BGW is a short drive away:
  7. It is interesting that the National Association for Leisure Industry Certification has not looked at the ride themselves.
  8. No. That is not the case. That is what the news report was attempting to sensualize.
  9. This video offers very little explanation for anything. The pics of the affected area on page 1 are different than the pics in the video. Just another media outlet trying to uncover a smoking gun.
  10. 4340 is strong, but will rust. 316ss & aluminum can tarnish in the right conditions, but do not rust.
  11. The rust appearance some claim to see brings up a great question: What IS the material used in the arms of the ride?? 316ss? 4340? Aluminum?
  12. Number of Accidents Due to Amusement Park Rides Might Be Higher Than You Think http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/number-accidents-due-amusement-park-rides-might-be-higher-you-n787286 Sometimes I really hate the drama-spin that the media does. This is one of those times.
  13. I'm a firm believer that all accidents are preventable, that being said, it sounds as if the carnival operator did take the necessary precautions to operate the ride. Perhaps fatigue testing should be conducted more? (that then raises the question(s) where on the ride are the tests conducted) Anyone remember the Chaos accident years ago? The recent tragedy is starting to sound similar. http://lubbockonline.com/stories/073101/upd_075-5288.shtml#.WXs-gtTysdU
  14. Perhaps I am incorrect, but I read this as only an annual inspection is required: (key area highlighted) http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/1711.53 I take the (G) section use of the word "may" as it is not required for every individual set-up.
  15. Absolutely correct. I will say that in my type of work (manufacturing), many things that are "wrong", start to get ignored because it becomes the "norm". When it becomes the "norm" we get desensitized to the actual problem. This is why every: state, city, township, county, WHATEVER needs an authority to oversee these moving carnivals. A 2nd set of eyes should always be required when it comes to the safety of riders. The video is graphic, but also explains what happened. Hopefully it will put the rumors to rest that this was IN NO WAY the riders' fault.
  16. And it is a two way street, I sincerely hope you understand that. Life is so much simpler when people can agree to disagree. On a side note, it was the sasquatch family that moves the piles of dirt.....
  17. But now that you defend it, you are part of the speculation. If you have issues with prudish people disagreeing with you, don't be part of an online community. Dum-da-dum-dum......
  18. Irrationally theorizing a potential is one thing, arguing rational posts for the sake of your irrational theorizing is another. As you said, this is a discussion forum. Be prepared to have disagreeing posts made about your "fun" irrational theorization(s). Your version of fun most likely is different than others. That being said: It's a dead tree with a ribbon on it. You find multiple ribbons on other trees in the area then you are on to something. It is a pile of dirt. You find the hole the dirt came from- most likely near the multiple trees with ribbons on them- then you are on to something.
  19. Taking a support beam will not do it.........
  20. I have always found it funny that many will complain about the walk back to TG/ FD/ Bat but fail to acknowledge everything requires extensive walking at any amusement park.
  21. CF tried numerous times and spent a considerable amount of money to save SoB. SoB is also one of the greatest failures in roller coaster history. CF has also made great additions to KI since the purchase. Given everything, I cannot fathom how CF "is getting back at KI". If KI would add another looping wood coaster so close to the SoB failure, the non-enthusiast will get the new coaster confused with SoB, hence why SoB was probably not considered for a RMC treatment, that is if RMC would even take the project on. There were numerous rumblings that roller coaster companies wanted nothing to do with SoB given the reputation it had.
  22. I noticed IS changing shortly after Paramount took over. First, it was the music changed to Paramount movie music, then the shops became more "corporate" as opposed to "unique".
  23. I'm sure KI has meetings that determine what land/ ride is expendable or available. When the question of removal is brought up, the answer of: how often is land/ ride used, ROI (maintenance vs. popularity), or refurbishment is discussed. If the park has not put money into something recently (basic yearly maintenance cost for safety of guests, aesthetics of area etc.) it is hard not to believe it is not on the chopping block. Does that mean Timberwolf fits in KI's future? I personally don't see how given how much it is not used.
  24. Being a local, this is fantastic news. But I'm not getting my hopes up. We have heard this same story a number of times over the past couple decades only to have the rug pulled out from under us and another restructuring is announced with new players in charge.
  25. I vaguely remember going to the circus when it was actually under a tent, not an arena. Sad day for many childhoods. We bought our girls to see it 10+ years ago & they were mesmerized. Sadly, we never thought of the animals health.
